Heh, good catch. I made the date sooner because people were telling me it should be sooner. Some people want it to be a monthly tournament, but that might just get to much so I went with the december date and forgot to change the pre-registration time. It ends a week before the tournament date as is typical.

Drafting with order based on final finish seems fine. This might lead to the 3rd/4th match actually getting played out.

That seems like such a randomly wierd thing to do. all of top 8 is decided by playing it out, but the 3/4 split is for some reason decided by standings pre top8???

It will work by percentage's i.e. 10 people from ithaca and 2 top 8 then ithaca scores a 20%, a group(location) must consist of at least 3 players.

I don't know how much better my record could have been, or if it could have been better, but round four I probably could have beaten Alix Hatfield (sp?) if I hadn't misplayed terribly third game. Landstill is simply not a fun deck to play against regardless, though.

And rsaunder-if you hadn't left, you could have drafted lol.

Eh, I probably should have since the prize support was so good, but I had way more fun back at school saturday night than I would have had playing in a draft. Vodka and redheads>MTG.

Did you face any LD or Moon crap during the tournament ?

How do you deal with that (Moon seems to be a problem).

I know one of the rounds Adam White ran into Geoff and his landstill deck. Geoff was telling me he was one of the luckiest players he played against b/c he had basically every answer all the time.

Geoff was able to pull the match out, because he is the best landstill player, peroid. Landstill does rape threshold for the most part.

I find it awfully hilarious that you think you and your friends are pure skill and that Adam and Kyle are just lucky. Believe it or not sir, skill CAN come from regions other than Syracuse. :(

I was just stating what Geoff told me in that post, thats all. I didn't say Adam didn't have skill, just that he seemed to have every answer possible in the first game of that match. He was very lucky to win that first game. It's not because he didn't have skill, its because the matchup was in Geoff's favor.

I'm going to be rooting for my guys from Syracuse since I believe we are the best in Legacy as a collective group and I think we have proven that in the past.

I'm not even sure if I'm going but if you want 'Syracuse' vs. 'the USA' I'm sure something could be arranged. I'll probably be cherrypicking from VA, the Midwest, and the Northwest. How many do you want?

Wait, so Frogboy is choosing five from all over the place to "compete" (by which I mean measure final standings in comparison to each other) against five from Syracuse?

Is there anything on the line? Because I would totally want to get in on that.

I think he was going for more than 5 on each side so that nickrit wouldn't bee too constricted in his choices of 'Cuse players. Personally, I think this would be better done as a Legacy fantasy draft for the GP. Either everyone creates a list of five that they track the records of, or they can actually draft the players to form their fantasy teams.

I think nick's edge decreases as the number of players increases because my pool is so much bigger than his, and since I am already getting a bunch of ringers this is a little more fair.

Thanks! Here's a quick recap:

Round 1: BYE

Round 2: Alex w/ Affinity (2-0)

Round 3: Anthony w/ Merfolk (0-2)

I lost the first game after keeping a one-land hand and whiffing with multiple Brainstorms. I lost the second game because of some mistakes and a surprise Counterspell.

Round 4: Jake w/ Eva Green (2-1)

Round 5: Jeff w/ Merfolk (1-2)

I lost the first game to a Stonybrook Banneret, which I couldn't Top into an answer for over the course of six or seven turns. I countered everything else Jeff drew, though, including a Back to Basics!

I lost the third game after making another costly mistake. After landing a Top on turn one, I played a sideboarded Counterbalance on turn two, which Jeff Forced. Thinking I could lock the game immediately, I Forced back, only to get blown out by Back to Basics while I was tapped out. It's too bad the top card wasn't a three, but leaving myself open like that isn't really defensible.

Round 6: Jesse w/ TES (2-1)

I squeaked into the Top 8 as the only 12-pointer, because of my opponents giving me good tiebreakers. Thanks guys!

Quarterfinals: Jon w/ Elf Survival (2-1)

Semifinals: Kyle w/... what should we call this deck, Kyle? It looks like Dreadstill, but with Tombstalker instead of Dreadnought. (2-0)

Anyway, aTn, as you can see, I didn't get paired against Dragon Stompy or anything. Of the two Merfolk decks, only Jeff played BtB, but it did win him a game. Jon played a single Magus in his sideboard, as a Survival target, and he played it in our third game, but it was Counterbalanced.

Nonbasic hate is obviously a concern with any four-color Landstill deck, but I don't feel very vulnerable to incremental mana denial like Stifle and Wasteland. Having 25 lands and a powerful draw engine usually lets you play through stuff like that. The scarier things like Moon and B2B you just have to counter, unless you can play a Deed and sit on it.

I considered putting a basic Island in the deck, probably in the sideboard, but I didn't expect it to be necessary this past weekend. In a different metagame, it might be worth the space.

Oh right. I must've forgot, being an administrator, that I'm supposed to do my duties of keeping things civil and not to resorting to being like members acting like five year-olds bickering about tournament performance. And it just so happened I did that all in a single post. I sincerely apologize for being a complete idiot in every sense of manners and civility in forum comprehension. Excuse me while I go castrate myself, for I have done wrong.

I think if we did a fantasy type system, you can pick anyone you want on the team and we will track the progress throughout the coarse of the GP. The only thing I would want, is the players you can pick has to be from your region (area).

Example would be Syracuse (which could have 2-3 teams depending how many of us go down which will be a lot), other areas could include whole state in the case you don't have a lot of people from a particular city that your from.

I think it would be a lot of fun and the best team would win something.

Let me know what you think and we can start a thread if enough people would be interested in doing this.
