Congrats!

Spring semester starts on 1/12 so I guess I have no excuse not to make it to this. It's costing way less than I thought to repair my (or, more accurately, my brother's) car, so money shouldn't be an issue.

I was thinking of putting plateaus in the 4th spot, but I figured people would rather the credit.
Thanks for all of the congratulations.

I completely forgot to tell the DJ about the Tool song with all the stuff going on that week. Kind of sucked, but it was a great time.

Dominating only applies to where you place. If there's 7 Syracuse in the top 8 and one Mass but the Mass takes 1st then well...it doesn't matter. Just means that Syracuse sucks at beating Mass xD.

My point was that spending time with your girlfriend is a lot better of a way to waste a weekend than a magic tournament. Come to think of it, there are a bunch of different ways to waste a weekend that are better. Getting AIDS from that toothless tranny hooker down the street being one example.

Weeell, there are two things you're missing.

1) She's working Saturday, so I wouldn't be able to hang anyway.
2) If she gets someone to cover her shift, I might get a hotel room and bring her along. Being bored most of the day can be offset by a nice night away. Plus, she loves roadtrips.

Me and Scrumdog (and whoever else we can locate before tomorow morning) will either risk taking his car (i've got AAA, so we wont be completely stranded if it desides to misbehave) or hopefully find someone by tomorow who has a slightly more reliable one to bribe with visions of gas money.

If I remember correctly Jeremy Blumenthal played Geoff Smelski, Bryant snuck in with the best tiebreaks at 4-2 in 8th, the guy who beat Bryant in Round 6 & I believe Jander and Josh Ciccio got in as well.

EDIT: Ciccio was playing Ben's 4c Thresh, Jander was, I believe, a landstill variant (fair enough since he created Legacy Landstill, he & Geoff...), the guy who beat Bryant was UW Elspeth control, Bryant was running some combo deck....what is it's name? >.> No idea on Paul or Jeremy

Not enough love for me in this thread. Josh Ciccio missed out on top8, it was the following:

1. Geoff "Ninja Cuts" (konsultant) Ubw Landstill
2. James "Pact of Negation... My Dark Ritual?" (Unregged) ANT
3/4. Jared "This Is Me" (Jaynel) Gbwr Survival
3/4. Paul "I Frown Upon Marijuana Use" (PTPaul) EPIC Painter
5-8. Rick "I Don't Ever Play Magic" (Jander) UW Control
5-8. Bryant "Guys, Mystical Tutor Isn't Even Good" (Bryant Cook) TES
5-8. Jeremy "Please Don't Knock Me Out of Top 8, Jared" (KillemallCFH) MUC
5-8. Mike "LOL DUBS EE" (rockout) Ubw Landstill

I had a lot of fun today, very good crowd and great atmosphere as always. Cheers.

A few summaries:

Great Tournament..Props to Off the Wall!
Finally met Sims after about 5 years of us both sketching out on tournaments
Met many cool other people that I only know from these boards
Tariq (spiderfreak) almost screwed up Bryant and my Top 8 slots
Mulldrifter and Dismantling Blow!
Bryant gives great road head
Fuck driving home for 5 hours in 2 feet of snow
Hell yeah 3/4 Syracuse players making top 8

I don't know his exact list but there were some difference's that I saw.

Just to throw this out there since I probably won't here the end of it, yes I was only running 3X Brainstorm and no it wasn't a mistake. I brought this up before in the landstill thread and it will probably be coming up in there again.

Props to Spiderfreak for not losing a round with F2K9 even though you didn't make top 8.

Gunna be brief. This tournament, even though I did poorly, was a blast as the OffTheWall events typically are. I played Burning Tog and after a promising round one, fell victim to seeing 10+ lands in both games of round 2, and my deck flatly not helping me draw well in round 3. Made it to the Top4 of the Free Single Elim side event (first and second god a Sea) and was knocked out by my friend and car-mate that I had loaned some cards to. Thems the breaks. I'll snap out of this and actually get out of my rut at Hadley events. But who cares, I got to finally meet Rick after 5 damned years.

Props:
-Rick! He and I were actually at the same event!
-OTW for always being a great store and having good prices on a lot of stuff.
-Kevin for indulging my urge to offload bulk and put the credit towards finishing one of my decks.
-James White for making a few play mistakes but top 8ing his second larger legacy event in 2 weeks.
-Gary (mallsecurityguard) for at least getting some side event prize, as well as Farrell (Albplayer), whom was still playing for the other Sea when I left.
-Albany itself, we had 8 players at the event, which is the first time we've been that numerous in a while
-Shane for deciding after losing to his own manabase that he'd go out and sleep in the car. Who sleeps in the car when it's 10 degrees outside?

Slops:
-Weather. Seriously sucked getting back into NY.
-My deck for shitting on me in the main event and then firing on all cylinders in the side event. Meh.
-Myself, for playing Goyf Sligh instead of being a man and playing Wildfire.
-Colleges for having their sports teams pull right up to the rest stop as we're trying to get food. Suddenly being crowded by a hockey team is not legit.
-Zach Tartell, cause you should have been there.

I guess I should do some slops and props as well:

Slops:
Mass & CT drivers not knowing how to drive in the snow
Scrubbing in the top 8 of another tournament.
Team Awesome not showing up in force.
Getting laughed at during the TES match - You never want to give the TES player three cards...?

Props:
Calzones at Primo Pizzeria near Hadley
Making top 8
Ripping cards all day thanks to my foil Riddle of Lightning
Kevin for getting married and holding a great tournament
Vindicate and Spell Snare being good enough to get there
Geoff for allowing me to steal his list ... sort of
Friendly people and faces

Meh. I was too busy not playing Magic up in Watertown. Or almost dying in stupid winter weather (I had a poor experience coming back from a Mana Drain Open event a couple years ago where my considerable weight was the only thing standing between Jim, Abold, and I dying in a firey, snowy car crash in the middle of rural Syracuse).

Looks like this tournament was more of a fan night for me then anything else. Seeing that Rick and Geoff are some of my favorite legacy players. Of course I am thinking about adding Jaynel to the list as well since I like his game.

Hi everybody, my name is Michael and this tournament was my very first Magic event ever. It ended up being a lot of fun and gave me an opportunity to learn some of the rules I didn't understand as well as to test out my deck against diverse opponents (I normally play with just a small group of 2-3 friends). I used to play quite a bit when I was in elementary/middle school and am now getting back into it after ten years of absence.

I made some real newbie mistakes (forgot to pay a cumulative upkeep, attacked with a goyf after miscounting his power and watched it die to a gilded drake which I had just handed my opponent, these things happen I suppose). But I also played some matches pretty well and ended up 3-3 for the day (2/1, 0/2, 0/2, 2/0, 0/2, 2/0). I think that most of the mistakes I made had to do with being nervous to play against a bunch of people who actually knew what they were doing. Also, there were a few important rules interactions that I didn't know going into the event and made some big miss-plays as a result. Everybody I played against was helpful though and didn't give me a hard time about being a beginner.

Even though it was at times a shaky start to the world of competitive Magic it definitely made me want to get out and play more often. I got to play against a deck which was almost a mirror only it ran some key cards that I don't and that has inspired me to change up my deck for the next event I plan to attend (The Grid Games, Manchester, CT, January 24th event).

It was fun to see decks which I had never even heard of. Going into the event I had studied up online and was anticipating a lot of Goblins and Phyrexian Dreadnoughts, neither of which I faced. As an added bonus I found out about this website.

Thanks to Off the Wall for hosting a great event and all the great guys I got to play and see play. Hope to see you all around again and tighten up my play to get to the point where I can start winning more than I lose!

PTPaul is old... But it's cool, because after the Legacy event, it was back to the Grid for a draft and I SMASHED Paul and got the Elspeth. That's all I needed to say.

But seriously, Paul's awesome.

Anyways, I had a great time at the event, and because I want to, I'm copying Bryant and doing some props/slops.

PROPS:
The Store- I bought some cards at great prices, especially the $6 Stillmoon Cavalier, that was tasty.
Jaynel- Best opponent ever (even though he sacked after my play mistake and beat me anyways), the guy's a riot.
PTPaul- 3rd Place.
Hymn to Tourach- This card is soooo good.
The Trades I got- You legacy players practically hand me type 2 cards.

SLOPS:
My Performance- 3-3 is awful.
PTPauls play- He tried to punt SOOO hard and couldn't do it.
The Weather- Driving home from The Grid (Where I left my car) was a NIGHTMARE.
Countertop... But mostly Top- This card is slower than frozen molasses and makes me want to put my face into a wall.
Blood Moon- Can it be banned? That card is no fun.

Anyways, another great legacy event. Everyone should go to the Grid in two weeks for the battle for the Pearl!

Good call on Guillotine Kev, me and the lady played it pretty much all day today. Think you could order regular Fluxx for me when the next one goes down?

I got to say I am a huge fan of the side events. It gives those something do if they scrub out and their teammates/friends are still in the main tournament. I hope they continue.

I am assuming that the Red Elemental Blasts in James White's ADN Combo sideboard are actually BEB?

Actually, no. I recall him saying that he had REBs in the board even though he could only cast them off Petals. I don't remember why they were there, I'll ask him friday when I see him, but I do remember them actually being REB and not BEB.

I'm pretty sure he didn't have a sideboard rolling into this tournament and made it last minute. The deck really doesn't "need" a sideboard i believe is something I heard him say.

mtglordtom24
01-14-2009, 12:49 AM
What he told me was that the deck was changed from having lands that produced red mana, like Gemstone Mines, to not having those lands, yet the sideboard was not updated and he didn't care enough to fix it.

Wow. That's either really courageous or really horrible. Apparently he is good enough to win with an 11-card sideboard though. Interesting...

But how often do you want REBs when your opponent plays moons? I guess against Swan & Moon, but who plays that deck...
