Who: Our friends John and Alex at Get Your Game On.

Where: Get Your Game On; Ann Arbor, Michigan.

When: Sunday: March 1st.

What: Welcome to the first Pauper Deck Challenge! For those of you unfamiliar with the MTGO format, it's simple. Decks can be constructed of cards from any Magic expansion, but these cards must all be common rarity. For cards printed in different rarities, use the lowest printed rarity. Cards printed as common and uncommon are legal. You can even use the uncommon one if you're feeling saucy.

Why: To have fun. Most people play competitive Magic to win prizes, and that's fun too. There is prize payout at this event, but the event is geared towards anyone, ANYONE who knows how to play Magic. The "best decks" can usually be built from your collection of cards under your bed and 4 or 5 bucks at the local game shop. No longer can you blame losing on the fact that your opponent spent more money on his or her deck than you.

Details: Entry fee is $5. Player turnout determines final prize support, number of rounds and playoff cut. Under 20 people will 4 rounds cut to top 4, over 20 will be based on overall turnout. 2 or more random prizes will be given out to players who do not make the playoff cut.

Well that sounds fun. I'll try to keep the calendar open for some Pauper silliness.

Thanks for the post Jimmy Neutron.

As an update, the Pauper Premium Event last Saturday had 135 people show up. I guess pauper is fun after all. Gather those commons and come play!
