I was thinking that it may be a good idea to list where the weekly 1.5 Tournies are so that any new people could find a local tournament. I know there are weekly 1.5 in Syracuse, Albany, and Seatle. Where else? Maybe Diablos or Mike could list the Syracuse one, and Copperleaf could list the Seatle one.

We should also list the tourney in a similiar fashion. I'll start the list:

City: Albany, NY
Where: Gamer's Guild in Clifton Country Mall
Close to: Exit 9 off of I87
When: Every Friday at 6:00-9:30
Entry fee: $5, $2 junior (14 and under), first time free
Prize: Top 4 get Store Credit for packs only
Average Showing: 20-30 people

So where's yours?

Here. Strick09 has been dying to post this info but can't seem to find the right place for it, so I did it for him.

For the Remainder of 2004
Tournaments are on Friday nights from 6pm to ~12:30
Entry fee is $5
We usually have anywhere from 25-30 people entering, and the numbers have been steadily growing.
Prizes are awarded to top 4, and we currently give out booster packs for prize, although I'm pretty sure we will offer store credit towards singles purchases at the discretion of the player.
Provided Wizards doesn't slack on the paperwork, December 3rd, 10th, and 17th will all be sanctioned 16k Legacy tournaments, with a Level 1 DCI Judge present (me).

Starting in 2005
We will be moving our Legacy tournaments to Saturdays so we can do FNM Booster Drafts on Friday Nights (the store is now a premier store). The Legacy Tournaments will be sanctioned in 2005.

The address is 716 East Main Street in Richmond, Indiana. Richmond is exit 156-B on I-70, right on the IN/Ohio border. It's approximately 45 minutes from Dayton, an hour from Cincy, 90 minutes from both Columbus and Indy.
The store phone number is 765 962 7663 if you need specific directions.

As an added incentive, if we make 16 participants for our first tournaments, we will throw in a couple random card giveaways including at least 1 dual land.

I look forward to seeing you at the shop. Thanks

Hey All,
I wanted to bump this up again as tomorrow (Sunday, Sept 11) is my first Legacy event that I'm running at my store.

The event starts at 12:00, and will be 3-4 rounds of swiss with a cut to top 4 or 8 depending upon the # of participants. It will be sanctioned, and if we get 16+, I will randomly give away a duo-land.

It is $5, and all of the prize pot will be distributed as store credit to the top 4 or 8.

Hope to see you soon.

For anyone who wants to play in Massachusettes, Boston, MA, please send me a PM. I'm working on getting up a mailing list with legacy players in the boston area and scheduling a time to play. this will most likely be at YMG, right next to Davis Square in Somerville, as it's ridiculously close to me, well known for MTG, and I know a couple people who work there... how convenient. Gamer's Guild has been closed for some time. Try Science & Hobby in Rensellaer/East Greenbush, I think they have Friday night Legacy, if they get enough people to show up.

Check this thread (http://mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2987) and this post (http://mtgthesource.com/forums/showpost.php?p=49497&postcount=58) for details, I guess.

The big reason why there isn't really any regular tourneys is turnout.
Most of the people that went to CCM didn't actually live in Albany, they lived in Saratoga County, Warren County and around there. Most of the people that play Magic in Albany County are dumbass Type 2'rs that rather play that and have never heard of Legacy.

We still have weekly tournaments in Annandale, VA, which is just south of D.C.

Phantom, if you have a car, try heading down here. Mad Zur and I come up from Fredericksburg every week, which is about the same distance away as Baltimore is(close to an hour's drive).

I'm sure it's in the thread somewhere already, but the tournaments are at:

The Lucky Frog
7229 Little River Tpke
Annandale, VA 22003

703-354-8018

Tournaments cost $5 to enter, with collected entry fees converted to store credit and given out as the prize.

Turnout has been low lately, hovering around 10, but at least the level of competition is respectable, and you can always get some decent playtesting in. Also, there's a Fuddrucker's within walking distance.

Technically, the commuter rail runs into downtown Wormtown. But that only runs during the week. As far as getting you here Sunday, I've got no idea if there are T trains then. There is a Greyhound terminal though, so if you're super-dedicated, you could make it that-a-way.

Let's do it! I bet I can get my super conservative Christian Seminary to give us some space, as long as we agree to play the Unholy Strength without the Satanic symbol on it. And no Grinning Demons. Otherwise

In Philadelphia there is this Store, Sports Cards Exchange is its name, that will let us run tornaments on Fridays. Normally we wind up doing drafts but If enough people want to show up we can run a 1.5 tornament. The prize would be money and it would depend on how much you wanna charge to play and put into the prize pool and the attendance. So if you can come or whatever, PM me and if I get enough PM's I'll get some guys I know together to help with it. I'm not a Judge, so that might be a problem. So, a Judge would be nice.

We have weekly tournaments each Sunday in the cafeteria area (between McDonald's and Subway) inside the Student Center @ Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. We rotate the format every week, starting @ 12:30pm, with Draft, 10-Proxy Vintage, Extended, Legacy, and Standard being the routine. Entry fee is $5, which basically buys you 2 booster packs; you can also bring your own (T2 legal) packs; what this means is that it's 100% payout. Packs are the prizes, split among the top 4.

Just a note, during the summer (and starting this Sunday, May 13th), we are forced to move to the University Mall Food Court as the Student Center is closed on Sundays through the summer.

If you're in the Southern Illinois region, you can also visit our playgroup's message board here (http://s10.invisionfree.com/So_Illinois_Magic).

Enjoy.

Monday night: player's choice tourney but it ends up being free Legacy tourney. 1st, 2nd, 3rd usually gets foil dci cards for prizes.

Tuesday night: Free Legacy night 1st 2nd 3rd gets prizes sometimes 4th gets a promo card.

Wednesday night: type 2 tournament BUT if only 4 people or 5 people show up it's majority vote and can be a free Legacy tourney for prizes.

Thursday night: Legacy $5 bux. Winners gets choice of packs or store credit+promos. The store does give more than average for 5 dollar entry fee.
============

Downside is that from mid August through November Legacy scene is just ok because of school. Once November hits we almost always get more than 10 people each tourney.

Even if you guys dont want to come enter the tournaments come and play casuals. There is almost always someone there playing casuals at night after 6pm daily and everyone is relatively easy to talk to about advance mtg strats. I come Tues, Wed, Thurs and I always bring nice trade material with me.

Well, in Germany and only once a month but here we go:

Legacy in Karlsruhe (Baden Würtemberg) after closure of the Magicexchange (http://www.zkforum.de/showpost.php?p=472169&postcount=44):

Legacy: every last saturday in the Spiele Pyramide (http://spiele-payrami.de)

Entry: ca. 5€

Prices: sigles (Duals, Forces etc.) according to the number of participants (well, we are only normally 8 or 9 [which kinda sucks hard] and we still manage to get some duals 1st place and some wasteland/other playable legacy card for 2nd. More prices are to be rewarded to more places if participation goes up)

The next tourney:

MTG T1.5 Legacy-Tournanament

When?: Samstag, den 24.02.2007
Start: 16.00 Uhr
Sign up: until 15.45 Uhr
Entry fee: 5 Euro

Prices: Duals

I'm going to start showing up to CCG in Springfield on Sunday afternoons with Vintage and Legacy decks and maybe a couple other people. If anyone wants to play, bring some decks (enough to loan out 1-2). Eventually, I'd like to get enough players to play weekly or bimonthly Legacy or 10-15 proxy vintage, and maybe even get the Legacy sanctioned. Anyone else planning on attending? Also, is Sunday the best day, or is there another that would be more convenient for the rest of you?

CCG's phone number is 217-793-5229. I'll try to update this with directions/address details.

Anything new spring up around the Boston area, I know there were posts a few pages back, dating back to '06 about there not really being much. I know Worcester/Springfield have stores with weekly events, and that place in Brockton apparently does, but haven't seen much about greater Boston area. Currently living a bit south of the area, but hopefully moving to the city soon if so will be stuck with public transportation though. :frown:

Oh well. thought I had a good place locked down and it was cancelled due to "lack of interest". I did a search on the WOTC locator and nothing (but the place I just mentioned) comes up within an hours distance. I live 18 miles from NYC I can't believe there's no place to play! Even Neutral Ground doesn't do Legacy as per their events calender so now I'm pretty much screwed. Wish I knew that before spending $150 to update my deck.

I in NJ myself, and it is hard to find Legacy tournies for sure. Type 2 and draft all over the place, but Legacy gets no love. I guess its going to take people like us to make the interest happen. Maybe with Legacy being in Worlds now, it might catch on. Anyway, I am pretty much smack dad in the middle of NJ and people wanting good matches in the general vicinity just pm me. The shops are there, just not enough Legacy players. WE have to change that.

Where in Jersey you at?

I've become friendly with the guy who owns the shop in LI and he explained to me that he WOULD run them, but that Legacy guys want good prize support like duals or something and he can't afford to offer that for a 6 player turn out.

I don't really know what kinda prize support the guys here see at a local level. I've seen bigger events with great stuff, but I dunno what would interest anyone.

That's about an hour and a half from me. Not too bad. Are you thinking about doing any of the bigger events listed in this forum? I should deffinately be able to do CT. I've got my first baby on the way in 2 weeks or less (god help me) so I dunno how traveling is gonna fare in the next few weeks.

For now I'm just gonna suffer through some Standard FNM just to get back into the game. I don't look forward to it, but I love my deck and am seriously trying to get it to work in Legacy. It'll be some much needed practice at the very least.

I am probably going to wait until one comes up in either NY or Philly. Maybe if we put our heads together we can get a NJ event going. I gotta a two man legacy game squad. Lol, its a start I guess.

Good luck with Standard. I thought about it myself, but now I just tweak some of my friends decks for them. It kinda keeps me updated with the cards at least. Still I think once we are used to Legacy, its so hard to go back...

I hope everything goes well with the baby! Becoming a father has to be somewhat stressful. Well, hopefully we can get some matches going sometime when things settle down.

09-06-2007, 10:45 AM
Sounds good to me. I'm sure we can find some store to get something going if we can get enough interest generated.

I have to agree with you on Legacy and Standard though. I can't stand the latter. You spend all the time tweaking, testing, playing a new deck until it's good enough, then half your cards get dumped when the new block comes in. It's one thing to lose some aggro creatures that will presumably be replaced, but lose something like Bob or half a combo piece and you're SOL. Now you have to spend more money to get back up to snuff. Ah whatever. All the expensive cards I bought from RAV are good LEgacy staples anyway.

Thanks for the kind wishes. I have 13 days of peace left!

Thats actually pretty nice turnout if it is consistent.

Almost 75% of the time, there isn't even enough turnout in my local Legacy tournament for even to start... (3-4 people don't make much of a tournament) :(

Strange that I never heard about this place opening, especially since I keep myself well informed of these things. I may have to check them out and look into their tournament outcome.

EDIT: Just checked the address, and from the looks of it this place is the one that took over the old video/somewhat card game shop that was there before sometime between 2005-2006. I guess I will have to look into the place now, it's only a 10-15 min drive.

Also, keep in mind that we still have Ancient Wonders in Tualatin and Wizard's Toy Chest in Portland/Tigard that are willing to host Legacy as well, as I've talked to both owners about it. It's really nobody's fault but Portland players in general that Batcave is the only place they go to now.

Start getting off your asses and determine somewhere in OUR town to meet up at, damnit!

At TJ Collectables in Milford, MA, about 10-15 minutes south of the I-495/I-90 intersection, (www.tjcollect.com), they run a regular unsanctioned Legacy weekly on Saturdays at noon ($5 entry). It's unsanctioned because of... 30-minute rounds, 4 rounds every time, and time ending *at* 30 minutes. Turnout is typically 16-24 players, but upwards of 40 on busier days (like at a release). They may be shifting in the near future to a sanctioned Legacy, but that has yet to be determined. They held sanctioned summer Legacy on Wednesday nights last summer.

This tournament has been going on weekly for over 6 years now with various players coming and going, but the crowd that is around now is very solid.

Some of the players in the area have sportsmanship problems, but we just usually laugh at them when they throw a tantrum anyways.

Another FYI: I am trying to start up a Wed night Type 1 tournament allowing for 10 proxies with cash going in and cash going out. Two main places I'm aware of for Minnesota Legacy is at Dreamers in St. Louis Park, and Monster's Den in Minneapolis.

Monster's Den has legacy every Thursday night starting at 7 PM, $5 to play - normally 15-20 players.

Dreamer's has their events on Saturday afternoon starting at 1 PM. Not sure what their crowd is like.

Website is http://dreamersgames.com for both stores. About once a month they have a 'big' Legacy tournament with a higher entry fee and much bigger prizes. Last one I went to was 6 rounds of swiss - so a pretty sizable crowd.

There's also a store in Maplewood called 'LAN World' (lan gaming center and ccgs apparently) that is also doing thursday night legacy, starting at 6 PM. Website is lanworldgaming.com. Plan on trying them out this week, so I'll report back. It looks like Magic isn't their main focus so I'm not anticipating as cool a crowd as the den - but maybe I'll be surprised.

Website is http://www.lanworldgaming.com

UPDATE:

LAN World apparently starts at 5:30 on Thursdays despite their website stating 6 PM. Entry fee is $5. First Place $20, Second Place $10, Third and Fourth each get a pack. Smaller group of players, 10-12 on average.

Given that I actually work for a living - I won't be checking them out this Thursday, but figured I'd pass along the information for anyone who might be interested.

The closest one i could think of going west is TJ's in milford (just over 30 mins theoreticaly), havent been there in forever, and their site doesnt list any legacy events.
Past that, you'd be going to worcester, where both the Wednesday one at OverTheEdge and the Sunday one at That's E are going strong.

We currently have weekly legacy tournaments every Saturday at 1:30pm. As long as we have 8 people they're sanctioned. We may begin allowing 12 proxies and obviously not being sanctioned so that we can get some of the FNM type 2 and drafters to start playing in the format. If we do that, we will lower the amount of proxies allowed by 1 every month so that in a year we can be sanctioned again.
