Since this deck is fundamentally different from 12post TNN, I will open up a thread for discussion of the Modern version of Turbo Drazi.
Key highlights that differentiate the deck from Tooth and Nail:
* Primeval Titan as a tutor effect
* All is Dust for control
* Noodle monsters to force the game to finish quickly
The strategy is to delay and stall long enough to develop the manabase in order to reach 8+ mana spells. This is achieved easily using a multitude of land tutors:
1. Expedition Map
2. Sylvan Scrying
3. Primeval Titan
Additionally, the :u::g: base provides additional tutors in the form of Trinket Mage. He can find
1. Pithing Needle
2. Chalice of the Void (Sideboard card against Zoo/Burn)
3. Relic of Progenitus (Sideboard card against Punishing Fires/Loam/Living End decks)
4. Expedition Map
Onto the deck. This is one I've been working on, but by no means is this the most optimized or "Pro Tour" ready, simply a list that works to get some discussion going.
2 Trinket Mage
1 Relic of Progenitus/Pithing Needle
4 Expedition Map
4 Explore
3 Sylvan Scrying
2 Primeval Titan
1 Kozilek, Butcher of Truth
2 Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
1 Wurmcoil Engine
4 Condescend
4 Spell Snare
3 All Is Dust
2 Beast Within
3 Simic Signet
4 Breeding Pool
4 Misty Rainforest
4 Cloudpost
1 Forest
2 Island
1 Eye of Ugin
4 Vesuva
4 Glimmerpost
Sideboard
2 Hurkyl's Recall
2 Karn Liberated
2 Beast Within
2 Wurmcoil Engine
4 Chalice of the Void
2 Relic of Progenitus
1 Mystifying Maze
SpikeyMikey had a good idea that Beast Within is useful against control matchups where you need the LD (mirror) or to remove annoying permanents. Similarly, Affinity is a bad matchup since most of the removal is ineffective against their colorless permanents, ans hence Hurkyl's Recall.
Key cards to watch that hurt this deck:
Magus of the Moon
Blood Moon
Gaddock Teeg
Land destruction
How can this deck be improved?
Anyone have some patience to do rigorous matchup testing?
