If a Xantid Swarm attacks: 1) can the defending player plays Sandstorm/Rain of Blades and kill it and 2) does the Xantid's ability trigger?

I guess this is a question of when during combat these actions trigger and when Sandstorm is legal to play.

1) Yes, Xantid's ability is a triggered ability and you can play those spells above Xantid's ability on the stack.

2) Yes, abilities resolve, and are, independent of their sources.

Alright, if Xantid's ability kicks in then it will be on the stack at a time during combat after it is considered attacking. Thus, it be victimized as an attacking creature by Sandstorm.

Yeah, Sandstorm will kill Xantid, but Xantid still triggers from that attack.

Just hope you have a Stifle.

And if you've got a deck packing Sandstorm and Stifle, I want a list.

[EDIT] I suppose that could be possible in U/G Madness?
