View Full Version : DTBF Philosophy & Deck Selection

What is the purpose of the DTBF forum?

The DTBF exists for a few reasons. Primarily, its purpose is to give new and veteran Legacy players an idea of the current state of the metagame. It is not only for highlighting tier one decks, but is also reflective of current trends in a constantly changing metagame. Ideally, the DTBF should provide a reasonably accurate model for creation of a testing gauntlet when preparing for an unknown metagame at a large, competitive tournament.

How is the DTBF structured to meet these goals?

The DTBF is broken down into two sections. This thread with the information it contains and the decks inside the forum.

A DTB is typically (but not always) considered to be Tier 1. These decks are the most popular, prevalent decks in the format, and in many ways they help to define the rest of the metagame. These decks should absolutely be taken into consideration when preparing a gauntlet for a tournament.

A Former DTB is a deck which has proven itself recently but lacked the numbers to hold its place in the forum for the current cycle.

So how are decks selected for the DTBF?

Rather than relying on arbitrary selection or decision-making based on conjecture which can be tainted by personal bias, decks are selected for the DTBF based on their performance at recent, large, competitive Legacy tournaments. Decks which make up a very large portion of the metagame are considered DTB's.

The data used for selection is based upon information gathered and compiled by The Council (http://tcdecks.net/). On the 15th of each month (Give or take a few days) the results of the last month's events are tallied. Then of the total, the top 4.6% of decks enter the DTBF for the following month. The decks from the month before that are pushed out are also listed to give a more complete picture of the meta.

What makes a DTB?

A Deck to Beat is a deck which is in the top 4.6% of the previous months total deck tally as found at The Council (http://tcdecks.net/).

Final Notes:

We recognize that this system is neither perfect nor infallible. By analyzing incomplete data, we do not necessarily create an accurate or full representation of the decks that make up the metagame. However, we feel this system will produce reasonably accurate results using a relatively simple, bias-free method.

The DTB Spreadsheet with all data I use can be found here (https://www.dropbox.com/s/cvcgp8ydzz4qqps/DTB%20Data1.xlsx?dl=0). The sheet will be updated less often than this thread.

Even though May had three 50+ player tournies (one each in America, Japan, and Germany), we will not be making any updates to the LMF for this month due to the Flash errata removal and then banning.

Lastly, Little men and Burn has placed 6 times across the world in the past 6 large events. However, I don't even know where to begin with organizing an ATW thread since the lists are so varied.

Please note that although CRET Belcher has three appearances none of those were in an American tournament. Also worth noting is the impressive 15 places Thresh has taken out of 48 possible T8 slots! That's nearly a third! Goblins, as most of us have noted already, is in a serious decline with its lowest numbers yet. The upstart, Cephalid Breakfast, has proven itself strong enough to be considered a DTB - for now. Lastly, be aware of the quiet rise in Landstill decks but the near complete lack of Survival decks.

GOBLINS IS OUT! This is the first LMF update that has not included Goblins!
Also worth noting is the impressive 16 places Thresh has taken out of 48 possible T8 slots! That's nearly a third! The upstart, Cephalid Breakfast, has fallen out of the DTB forum for now – I wonder why. :frown: Be sure to realize that Landstill is back and just might be here to stay. Lastly, Aluren and 43 Lands have sneaked their way into DTW status.

Non US news: Please note that although CRET Belcher has four appearances none of those were in an American tournament. Baseruption and the Survival Archetype have T8ed twice in German tournies.

Holy return of combo!

Combo in all shapes and forms made a huge appearance in the recorded March tournies. IggyPop variants, Belcher, and Ichorid all did very well! At least Ichorid’s huge explosion can be explained by its Extended popularity and good game against Thresh. But how has Belcher and Iggy done so well?

Also, please note that I have treated Fetchland Tendrils AS IggyPop. What really is the major difference between the two decks?

June Update

In Legacy news: Where the hell did Ichorid go? Replacing Ichorid as the “young” upstart is StifleNaught variants. With so much effective hate for a 1cc artifact creature, how can these decks be doing so well? Will they disappear once players are better prepared for them? Also note the popularity of the AggroLoam deck and the introduction of PainterStone variants to the T8.

With 13 May tournaments, a deck had to Top 8 seven times to be classified as a DTB and four times to be a DTW or ATW.

July Update

In Legacy news: I do believe that we have our first recorded UK tournament!Thresh and Landstill retain their DTB status but take a look at how well StifleNaught and Painter variants placed in the past month. I wonder if both decks will eventually produce more refined versions that can be recognized as the superior build. Two of the Rock placements were actually in America – which is a miracle considering how adamantly the US ignores that deck. Lastly, in other surprising news, Goblins only placed 4 times, moving it to DTW status. OH! And please note that I wanted to include the GP side event, but we cannot find the official results. I may have to modify this update in the coming week or so. :frown: Also, it would be nice to get the latest Hadley tournament results in here - I'm just waiting for the T8 lists to be posted.

August 2008 Update

In Legacy news: For the first time ever, we have NO DTWs! I wonder if this is somehow worth analyzing. Could it indicate that Legacy – a format renown for its diversity – is developing a more defined metagame? With seven “decks to beat,” could a Legacy player have a clearer indication of what to play (and play against) at a large, diverse tourney? Also, it seems as if Agro Loam (and to a lesser degree Dreadstill) variants may be starting to become more refined into standard lists. Also note that combo, with the exception of Ichorid, is basically absent from the July Top 8 lists. Lastly, the fan favorite Dragon Stompy only had 1 appearance.

July had 14 recorded Legacy tournaments of 33 or more players. A deck needed to top-8 7 times for DTB status and 4 times for DTW status.

September 2008 Update

In Legacy news: First, you may notice the relatively “low” number of Thresh decks. Only 14 for this month :;):. What you may find more interesting, though, is that the second most Top8ing deck is NOT Landstill or Goblins but AggroLoam! Next – from out of nowhere – everyone and his brother top8ed with GoyfSligh. That deck is propelled to DtB status for at least month. Also, those darn Europeans finally stopped playing TheRock and its presence is almost unseen in August T8s. The most popular combo deck for August is Painter while Ichorid, Belcher, and Aluren make a small blip on the radar; however, I have noticed NO storm combo! Lastly, you may notice that Little Blue Men and Women are running rampant in many forms – from Merfolk to Fairies to Fish.

August had 14 recorded Legacy tournaments of 33 or more players. A deck needed to top-8 7 times for DTB status and 4 times for DTW status.

October 2008 Update

Oh little blue men! You’re giving me a headache. What’s the difference between Fish, Merfolk, and Faeries? Is it all in the name or are those decks really playing a different game-plan? Either way, you should note that Fish decks are making a big splash in non-USA tournies. If we count Fish, Merfolk, and Faeries as the same deck, then we have a total of 11 Top 8s. Add in the two DreadedFish, then we have 13 – which almost rivals Threshold’s numbers! To continue this thinking, we have roughly 25% of the Top 8s starting with a basic shell similar to this: Brainstorm, Ponder, FoW, and Daze. And then likely STP, Counterbalance, Top. I’d love to see someone crunch those numbers for the past month’s tournies.

In other news, FairyStompy put a blip on the radar again while GoyfSligh seemed to nearly disappear. Ichorid numbers are up while Landstill numbers are down. AggroLoam and Goblins are both holding strong. Painter variants present us with our last conundrum. Right now, Painter reminds me of last year’s Loam lists: they were very diverse. I wonder if eventually, like with AggroLoam, one Painter list will prove dominant.

September had 13 recorded Legacy tournaments of 33 or more players. A deck needed to top-8 7 times for DTB status and 4 times for DTW status.

November 2008 Update

ANT and Dreadstill? WOW! Dreadstill makes it to DTB status and was the 2nd most T8ing deck beat only by one top 8 from Threshold! ANT had 6 placements but those placements do not accurately gauge Ad Nauseam’s influence. Keep in mind that TES and FT, which are both running that card, have 4 and 2 T8 appearances respectively. That’s a total of 12 Ad Nauseam decks in the T8s of October! Landstill misses DTB status for the second month in a row and AggroLoam drops down also. Must be all those Extirpates running around. Lastly, GoyfSligh jumps up to DTB for October.

October had 13 recorded Legacy tournaments of 33 or more players. A deck needed to top-8 7 times for DTB status and 4 times for DTW status. Please keep in that although we post data from online tournies of 33+ players, we do not count them for the DTBF.

December 2008 Update

Holy Pikula, has Legacy been active this last month! A full 20 six-round or bigger tournaments establishes a new record for the format. This also puts a LOT more pressure on decks to emerge as DTB/DTW: this month it takes 6 placements for a deck to qualify as DTW/ATW and a goddamn 10 to qualify as a DTB.

With such strict requirements, it’s no wonder that only the classic Threshold and Landstill manage to achieve the most coveted status. Threshold in particular has had an exceptionally strong showing, with its UGW Counterbalance version able to qualify for DTB on its lonesome; I have taken the opportunity to finally count separately the CounterTop versions and the more tempo-oriented StifleWaste lists – a useful piece of information to have, although there will be no practical effects for now (since the tempo lists are still discussed in the same thread as their more successful brothers). It’s also worth noting that if one were to cumulate ANT and TES as a single deck, he would get a third DTB– so don’t be too quick to pick up board control decks!

One placement short of full DTB rank we find the classic Goblins and Aggro Loam as well as the newcomer Team America, whose meteoric rise is nevertheless absolutely phenomenal. Somewhat less impressive is the reappearance in the DTW category of the Rock, whose six placements come from a variety of different lists that interpret the classic “disruption + board sweep + fatties” in strikingly different ways (and I did not count a few sweeper-less aggro lists). One rank higher the Dreadnought family limits its losses and manages to stay within the top forum. Finally, for the could-have-been category, we notice that Zoo and Goyf Sligh, separated by the number of creatures and colours played, would jump into DTW status if counted together, something certainly to keep in mind.

As for those who fell from grace, Survival leaves the DTBF no matter how generously one were to count its many variants, and with that the ATW label can disappear (at least for this month). In addition to Goyf Sligh’s jump from DTB status to just two placements (which is easily explained as phagocytising by Zoo), Ichorid seems to have taken a month off, with a single Top 8 appearance to its name – but we doubt it will be missing for long.

February 2009 Update

We emerge on the other side of the regrettable winter black hole to find a rather unexpected intruder at the top of our list - one which I personally am happy to see, and had been waiting for a while to see recognised.

That's right, kids: the Merfolk deck, long relegated to dark horse and occasional metagame spoiler, has finally realised its potential and shown everybody what it can do with its unique combination of Threshold's clock and free countermagic and Goblins' swarming, Æther Vials and mana denial - not to mention an assortment of cool tricks ranging from sneaky Mutavaults to game-ending Back to Basics. Alongside evergreen Landstill and Counterbalance Thresh, the little blue guys have raged across Germany, Italy and Spain to take their spot in the elite, 9-placement club called the Decks to Beat. Will they stick to their place, or will they they go down in flames (http://magiccards.info/autocard.php?card=Volcanic%20Fallout) as quickly as they rose?

Balancing Merfolk's impressive performance, ANT, the Rock and Team America lose DTW status - the former by a paltry 0.1 placements, the latters by larger and more significant margins. Also, with regards to the usual "shuffling the same decks in and out" the DTBF is notorious for, Survival sneaks back in the big leagues thanks to a new base list and a moderately successful Elves-flavoured spinoff.

Finally, an interesting tidbit: there's a nice total of eleven placements around between Goyf Sligh, Zoo, Boros and Burn. Considering that the Lightning Bolt decks are well-placed to prey on the new Merfolk menace, I would assess aggro as alive and well in the current and future Legacy format.

March 2009 Update

18 tournaments this month, so it takes 9 placements to be DTB and 6 to be DTW.

I'll be quick this time. Here are the important news this month:

Go blue men! Merfolk is still the third DTB alongside CB-Thresh and Landstill.
Ichorid is back! After three months of absence, it has unsurprisingly returned and claimed a nice eight placements this month.
Dreadstill has suddenly disappeared, with only a single showing. Most of the Dreadnoughts in this month's lists were singletons to be fetched by Trinket Mage in various blue-based rogue lists.7 - 1er Torneo de la Liga Legacy (http://www.deckcheck.net/event.php?event=Primer+Torneo+de+la+Liga+Legacy+Black+Lotus), Spain

May 2009 Update

In light of both Grand Prix: Chicago and the third Bazaar of Moxen tournament, it has been decided to switch to a slightly more sophisticated system for determining deck scores, so that placements in larger tournaments receive an appropriately heavier weighting:

Points per placement = {Number of Swiss rounds} + {Number of Top 8 rounds won}

NOTE: I am aware that some tournaments (mostly German) do not play out their Top 8s, but taking that into account would have been a significant pain in the ass (either use a separate calculation or add three fictional tournaments for every real one). Since decks are still listed in order of Swiss performance, the distortion is limited.

NOTE: In the score card below I have also reported how many points come from some specific sub-category of each deck. Those numbers do not always add up, because some decklists may belong to more than one category or to none.

A second important change involves how Threshold decks are counted; in the last year the archetype has evolved to the point that the old categorisation by their splash colour (or lack thereof) makes little sense.

Today, the one clear split is between decks packing the maindeck Counterbalance/Top combination and those favouring an aggressive, tempo-driver approach with Daze, Stifle, and Wasteland. The latter decks are quite well established, with only a few secondary choices being discussed (mostly additional threats such as Dreadnought or Alara Reborn creatures) and splashing exclusively either Red or Black.

Counterbalance decks, on the other side, exist in a continuum, from the classic Mongoose builds to the Chicago lists to those incorporating additional tricks (Survival, Natural Order, etc.); they also exist in pretty much every possible colour combination that includes Blue and Green, from two to four colours.
If some clear division in approaches emerges, this will eventually be adopted in both thread organisation and tournament tallies. For the time being, all CounterTop decks that do not fall into any established category, i.e. that follow the game plan of "establish the Balance soft-lock and play good creatures", will get dumped into one format-leading cauldron.

August 2009 Update

Here is how we can sum up the state of Legacy as of mid-summer:

1) Spain is clearly the capital of the format. Fourteen six-round-plus tournaments? Whoa. Plenty of big ones in there, too.

2) The format is consolidating around a half-dozen decks. Last time we checked there was a clear dominator in CounterTop, with everyone else having less than half as many points and more or less linearly decreasing in score. Now, however, there's a glut of performers at the top, all rather close to each other, and then a clear dropoff to Tier 1.5 land.

CounterTop is still one of the best decks, but no longer THE best deck: Merfolk has nearly the same score, but its lists are much more uniform, unlike CounterTop which remains a kitchen-sink archetype.
After those two, the top of the list is populated by unchanging Tempo Thresh (although many have been experimenting with Lorescale Coatl and whatnot in the Mongoose slot) and then the aggro contingent in Zoo, powered to new heights on the back of Pridemage, and Goblins which barely squeaks by the DTB requirement of 148 points.
Conversely, old Landstill falls just under that limit, and ANT follows a handful of points behind; both lone representatives of two out of three heads of the old Aggro/Control/Combo trifecta, whereas the rest of the DTBF is made entirely of shades of aggro and aggro-control.

What about the aforementioned Tier 1.5 land? These are decks that collected approximately half as many points as the typical DTB/DTW. There are staples on likely temporary vacation, such as Ichorid, AggroLoam, Survival and Dreadstill (note that a few Noughts showed up within Tempo Thresh shells, too). Then there are a couple of archetypes which got a burst of popularity in certain areas and placed enough to show up on the radar: they are Enchantress (Spain) and Faeries (Italy), at which lists you may want to take a look, though you probably need not worry about facing them.

Most interesting, however, is the newcomer Bant, an UGW deck eschewing both Counterbalance and Stifle in favour of good old Exalted creatures and - in one case - the planeswalker Elspeth. Some may say that it's tiresome to have yet another FoW/Brainstorm/Goyf archetype in the format, but I'd like to point out the nice aspect that a combat-focused mechanic like Exalted should be much more appealing to Legacy newcomers than the often-annoying Balance lock or Stifle/Waste manascrew (although a few Bant lists have been known to plop surprise Hydras out of nowhere...)

January/February 2010 Update

You didn't think it would ever come, did you? Well, here it is, and let's get straight down to the numbers. First, the number of tournaments by country; this should cover, if not all, a very large majority of tournaments played since August last year.

Germany 24
Spain 20
Italy 16
USA 16
France 7
Japan 5
Netherlands 3
Philippines 3 Canada 2
Denmark 1
Russia 1
Belgium 1
Finland 1
Czech Republic 1
Sweden 1

After being more or less absent from the Legacy scene for a while, the USA have finally started running tournaments again! The Philippines have also seen the birth of a solid Legacy community, which is pretty damn cool.

The complete tournament list will be published shortly in the sister thread. Now let's get to the meat of the post.

Total performance points: 5747 in 782 placements
Points required to become DTB: 359
Points required to become DTW: 215

DECKS TO BEAT:

CounterTop - 499 points in 66 placements
Subsets: CounterTop Bant - 169 in 22; Supreme Blue - 101 in 14
Also related: Dreadstill - 82 in 11; CounterTop Painter - 47 in 6; CounterTop Depths - 20 in 3

No surprise there. CounterTop is a huge archetype ranging from builds with Noble Hierarch and Rhox War Monk to ones with Dark Confidant and Tombstalker, and the influence of its namesake extends further to various less creature- and more combo-oriented lists. CounterTop is very much here to stay.

Merfolk - 474 points in 64 placements
Subsets: Green splash - 49 in 6; White splash - 50 in 7

The predator chases the prey.

Tempo Thresh - 439 points in 59 placements
Subsets: Team America - 51 in 6
Also related: Various UGR lists - 76 in 10; NinjaFaeries - 52 in 8

The day Canadian Thrash is obsolete will mark the end of an era.

ANT - 409 points in 54 placements
Also related: TES - 15 in 2

"The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated". The boogeyman of everybody not playing Force of Will or Chalice of the Void, storm combo has been called dead or dying for quite a while now due to the predominance of the Merfolk vs. CounterTop battle at the top of the metagame. Well, guess what: while you talked shit behind its back, ANT has been happily joyriding your car and sleeping with your significant other. Go hug a Mindbreak Trap.

Zoo - 397 points in 53 placements
Also related: Sligh - 151 in 21

Before you ask, yes, I still believe separating Zoo and Sligh is appropriate, and I think that if you were to read those 70+ list you'd agree with me that decks playing Goblin Guide and Hellspark Elemental don't belong together with decks playing Qasali Pridemage and Path to Exile.

That shouldn't stop you from keeping very clear in your mind that 397+151=548. In the average metagame, you're roughly as likely to run into Fireblast and Price of Progress as to run into Counterbalance and Sensei's Divining Top. Have a plan for both.

DECKS TO WATCH:

Dredge - 340 points in 46 placements
Subsets: with LED, Bloodghast and Ichorid - none
with Bloodghast and Ichorid - 59 in 8
with LED and Ichorid - 162 in 22
with LED and Bloodghast - 7 in 1
with Bloodghast only - 32 in 4
with Ichorid only - 73 in 10
with LED only - none
with none - 7 in 1

I hope the breakdown is appreciated (although it usefulness is limited by the few months that this update stretches before Zendikar).

Goblins - 331 points in 46 placements
Subsets: MonoR - 124 in 18; Black splash - 120 in 16; Green splash - 79 in 10; Both - 32 in 4; White splash - 49 in 7

Survival - 267 points in 37 placements
Subsets: Bant - 111 in 15; Elves - 43 in 6

The broad category of "decks packing 4x Survival" has finally been finding some focus. I suspect that by the time the next update rolls in, the archetype will see some reorganisation.

Aggro Loam - 261 points in 35 placements
Subsets: White splash - 124 in 16

OTHERS:

Faeries - 209 points in 29 placements
Enchantress - 165 in 22
Sligh - 151 in 21
Rock - 145 in 22
Landstill - 134 in 19
Lands! - 107 in 14
Stax - 95 in 13
Reanimator - 92 in 12
Dreadstill - 82 in 11
Belcher - 70 in 9
Pox - 62 in 9
Dragon Stompy - 59 in 8
Goodstuff decks - 56 in 8
Hexmage Depths - 53 in 8
Eva Green - 50 in 7
Painter Combo - 47 in 6
Dream Halls - 35 in 4
Suicide - 30 in 4
Affinity - 24 in 4
Burn - 20 in 3
Imperial Painter - 16 in 2
NoGoyf - 16 in 2
Quinn - 15 in 2
Soldiers - 13 in 2
Berserk Stompy - 7 in 1

Anything with Progenitus - 274 in 36
Anything with Noble Hierarch - 519 in 69
Anything with Life from the Loam - 474 in 63

Note: Let me know if I missed something in the above list. With the current system I have to remember every name to then ask the file how it placed, and it's like trying to name all the seven dwarves of Sleeping Beauty, except there's a few dozen of them and no thinly veiled sexual undertones.

Observation 1: You could say that Landstill is dead, but I just think it's in its periodic search for a form that fits the current format (like it did about a year or two ago when the two-colour Elspeth lists were developed). On the other side, Dreadstill ist kaput.

Observation 2: As open as it still is, Legacy is definitely coalescing around a much smaller metagame of fixed poles, and the Tier 2 decks that emerge do so because they have something to offer against them and not just because some people get infatuated. Scroll up and compare this update with the previous ones: quite a bit of older favourites that used to still gather a placement here and there, no matter how mispositioned against the meta, have now completely disappeared.

APPENDIX - DARK HORSES:

No, we haven't added a third category the DTBF forum: I'm simply taking the chance to spotlight a few decks, new and old, that I think show metagame promise to various degrees.

Bitter Stalker (aka Faerie Thrash) - 79 points in 10 placements

Originally built by kikkofrio and later popularised by spiritofthewretch, it replaces Canadian Thresh's green beaters and burn with Bitterblossom and Spellstutter Sprite to grab the pace of the game, and Tombstalker for a quick finisher. It reminds me of Enchantress and Aggro Loam in that if you haven't previously tested against it and observed how it works, you're going to find yourself nearly hopeless when you run into it even though your deck may have the tools to fight it.

Pox Loam - 43 points in 6 placements

To put it plainly, (Small)-Pox has historically sucked and met roughly as much success as Burn (while not being quite as cheap to build). But I see a decent chance that the winning formula has been found, since the black/green lists that have placed of late have all been so similar. And what Loam and Tranquil Thicket provide - consistency and card advantage - is a major part of what Pox was direly missing.

June 2010 Update

Confession time: doing the number crunching to keep the DTB current is a lot of work. Painfully so. In an effort to get that forum current to what you should reasonably be testing against, we tried a new approach this update that was much easier and produced results that feel right.

Instead of aggregating the huge volume of T8s we typically analyze, I aggregated seven random Legacy tournaments deciding in advance that any deck that took at least 5% of the slots would get in; anything falling below 5% would get pushed out.

Fifty-six (56) total slots:

Reanimator - 111111111 (9) - 16%
Zoo - 11111111111 (11) - 20%
CB Top - 111111 (6) - 11%
Merfolk - 1111111 (7) - 13 %

From its creation on this website, the DTB forum has always been a collection of decks that you should/could use the basis of a testing gauntlet. If you think Lands, Gobilns, etc. should be in your testing gauntlet, by all means, add them.

I'll admit we could have a more sophisticated approach to determing what should be in the DTB, but I feel some change is better than no change since it hasn't been updated in months. I'm hoping we'll have the brainpower to do a more thorough analysis for the next update.

August 2010 Update

This time around it looks like Zoo is a force to be reckoned with.

What's new:
Goblins is back! It's been a little while, but since the banning of Mystical Tutor, Goblins has been showing up in quite a few Top 8's.
Bant is a DTW. This U/w/g aggro deck has been performing well recently and displaying it's strength through tournament success.
TES is a DTW. This may have to do with the banning of Mystical, but all of the Tendrils decks that have placed in Top8's in the past month and a half have chosen to run red and Burning Wish. The power of this deck is really starting to show across multiple environments.
Landstill is in as a DTW. Surprising to myself as well, but many Standstills were seen in Top 8 appearences outside of Merfolk decks.

What's old:
New Horizons was just short of holding its position in this forum.
Reanimator didn't cut it any more since the loss of its favorite tutor.
ANT has been edged out by the favored combo deck in the new environment, TES.

What's different:
CounterTop drops down to a DTW.

June 2011 Update

Yes, you're not dreaming. The DTB forum is actually being updated again. We're even returning to a monthly update schedule!

Where's the trick? you ask. You guys were too busy raising videogames and playing kids to do any update at all for the better part of a year, and now you promise monthly updates? Did you suddenly start getting a salary or something?

Not at all! It simply happens that the guys from The Council (http://www.thecouncil.es/tcdecks/formato.php?format=Legacy) are doing a truly awesome job keeping a tally of Legacy tournaments from all over the world, filtering them into sensible categories, and plotting all of that into a nice chart, so we have agreed - until further notice - to just refer to their data for our own DTB forum.

The rule we have agreed upon is straightforward: each deck making up 4% of the total Top 8 placements for the past month will be a DTB for the next. Looking at ' data, this will usually put between 5 and 10 decks in the top forum.

So, without further ado, here (http://www.thecouncil.es/tcdecks/metagame.php?format=Legacy&fecha=2011-5) is The Council's metagame tally for May (follow the link to browse the decklists and support these guys):

http://i.imgur.com/OPN5L.jpg (http://www.thecouncil.es/tcdecks/metagame.php?format=Legacy&fecha=2011-5)

The cutoff comes at 14,8 Top 8s, meaning the following are the DTBs for June:

Merfolk
Team America
Maverick
Zoo
Painter-Stone

The Americans will probably be wondering "what the heck is Maverick?" - well, except for at least Marsh Usary, Chris Elrod and that old fart Alix Hatfield, who piloted the no-nonsense G/W Aggro deck to three SCG Top 8s. To all the others, check it out. It's pretty sweet.

One final notice: from now on, we strongly encourage you all to submit (http://www.thecouncil.es/tcdecks/submit.php) the decklists from your local tournaments to The Council. This is the best way to guarantee that they will count towards DTB statistics.

July 2011 Update

Slight change in methodology: Pablo (the guy behind TCDecks) let me know that he has actually programmed a more sophisticated version of his metagame ranking, not yet publicly linked from his homepage, which weighs placements according to the number of rounds won - meaning that placing in bigger tournaments counts for more. It only makes sense to switch to this system; the point cutoff will be set at 3.4% (again, this was chosen by looking at the previous months and picking a number that would usually give between 6 and 10 DTBs).

So, the basic metagame count:

http://i.imgur.com/0WNwF.jpg (http://www.thecouncil.es/tcdecks/metagame.php?format=Legacy&fecha=2011-6)

The weighted tier placements is:

http://imgur.com/BL6Xs.jpg (http://www.thecouncil.es/tcdecks/tierdecks.php?format=Legacy&fecha=2011-6)

The cutoff is 90.74 points, making Bant Aggro the last DTB.

Now, Pablo splits the various Stoneforge Mystic decks into two categories: "Blade Control" and "Patriot". Roughly speaking, Patriot is an UWR or UWGR aggro-control deck that plays around a dozen creatures and little if any card drawing beyond a couple of Jaces, while Blade Control is usually UW or UWx, plays about a half-dozen creatures and often features the Landstill card advantage engine, sometimes replaced by Ancestral Visions.

Maverick

Merfolk
Bant Aggro
NO RUG
Dredge

October 2011 Update

This month brings a surprising fall. Let's look at the metagame tally:

http://i.imgur.com/DsAbQ.jpg (http://www.thecouncil.es/tcdecks/metagame.php?format=Legacy&fecha=2011-9)

A little top-heavy, but not that weird. But let's let the folks at The Council adjust it by tournament weight:

http://i.imgur.com/fAVb7.jpg (http://www.thecouncil.es/tcdecks/tierdecks.php?mes=10&anio=2011)

The cutoff ends up falling at 94.45 points, meaning that for the first time in fuck-ever, Zoo falls out of the DTBF! By a mere two points, but still.

The Decks to Beat of October are then:

Maverick
Blade Control
RUG Order
Merfolks
Reanimator
Team America

Nic Fit players and would-be players, don't be disappointed - consider it a small help at going under the radar for another month ;)

Thanks to forum member bilb_o for spotting a typo that made seven points' worth of Nic Fit placements get listed under "Nic fit". With those extra points, Nic Fit is DTB #7 for the month.

The threshold is 114 points, which this time makes for a neat DtB:

Maverick
Threshold UGR
Blade Control
Burn
Reanimator
Sneak Attack
Nic Fit

(Burn is in the DtB, go take a shot of your favourite liquor, it's the rules.)

I have also decided to promote the Bant thread to the DtB, since on our site it handles all decks built around the Bant structure, whereas TCDecks splits them depending on whether they maindeck NO/Prog, CounterTop, or neither, and the versions with either package are a small minority at this point. I don't like second-guessing TCDecks, but all those decks share something like 55/60 cards and have a total score of 143, so I think the exception is necessary. Just don't go make a "Decks with FoW and Brainstorm"-thread to try and get more easily in the DtB.

August 2012 Update

Looking at this month's progression, it seems the curves are softening and flattening, and that the scene is broadening and becoming more open to new entrances. But enough talking about your mother. Let's take a look at Legacy:

The cutoff is 102 points, so we do have a relatively large DTB:

Maverick

Merfolks
Goblins
Sneak Attack
Dredge

i.e. every DTB stays a DTB, but the tribes of Merfolk and Goblins join them. Merfolk isn't huge news, but how fucking forever has it been single Goblins was a DTB? Welcome back basic Mountains, we missed you! (No, Burn doesn't count)

Also don't forget about Dredge just because they fell half a point off the cut. Merfolk's fall, on the other side, was a bit more dramatic.

New DTB:

Threshold UGR
Maverick
Miracle Control
Blade Control
Sneak Attack
Goblins

edit: I'm adding Omniscience to the DTB for this month since it turns out the Omnitell category was actually added only recently, and the deck's placements also make up a large part of Sneak Attack's. Hopefully for the next update all Omniscience decks will fall under Omnitell.

----

A technical note: I've looked over the past year of results and I think the cutoff has become a bit too generous. Due to (presume) the increase in reports smoothing out the score curve, we have regularly had over ten and as high as thirteen DTBs throughout 2013, particularly in the latter half.

The original 3.4% requirement was aimed at having between six and ten DTBs at any given time, and I still feel a list of that size would be more useful, as well as limit the constant reshuffling in the lower half of it. Therefore, from next month, the minimum score to qualify for the DTBF will be raised to 4.6% of the total score. (If that number had been in place recently, we would have had the desired six to ten DTBs.)

If you missed it in the above post, the required share to be a Deck To Beat has increased from 3.4% to 4.6%. As a result, the cutoff is a whole 121 points, and we get this DTBF:

Team America
UWR Delver (TCDecks: Patriot)
Elves
Death and Taxes
Blade Control
Ad Nauseam Tendrils
DeathBlade
Sneak and Show (TCDecks: Sneak Attack)

Miracle Control (!), Canadian Thresh (!!!), Shardless BUG, Jund and Nic Fit are OUT.

I repeat: U/G/R CANADIAN THRESHOLD IS OUT OF THE DTBF FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE NOVEMBER 2011 (i.e. since Delver of Secrets was first legal)

Note that while yes, under the previous, more relaxed rules it would have made the cut by six points, Canadian Thresh spent most of the past two years in the top spots of the scoreboard. It would never have risked demotion if it hadn't suddenly fallen from #1-#4 to #9.

So, uh, if you compare the graph above to the last few months you kinda notice that we don't just have one dominating deck, but two. Team America and Miracle Control have been eating up a lot of this month's tournament points (and there's been a lot of tournaments too, like 70% more than last month), and as a result the DTBF is tightening up.

There may be four decks that got past the 156-point cutoff, but don't get fooled: it's TA and MC at the top, and then a bunch of second-stringers, two of which are somewhat less second-stringer than the rest.

(For the record, the old cutoff would have given us ten DTBs, so no, I think going low with four is still more informational.)

August 2014 Non-Update (http://www.tcdecks.net/formato.php?format=Legacy)

Hello,

I am going to declare August a skip month for the update. To see why, here are the total scores collected for each month of 2014:

January - 2895
February - 2628
March - 1983
April - 3384
May - 1898
June - 2180
July - 2516
August - 1192

August (or, to be anal, the second half of July + the first of August) has had only around half as much tournament points as most other months, and almost a third as much the largest month. Running the update for August would leave us with a five-deck DTBF, and the difference between almost all DTBs and non-DTBs would come from single digits. This would be highly misleading in all the worst ways.

I'll try to cumulate the August data with that from September next month.

Until then, enjoy your holidays (if you get any).

Hi folks,

Sorry for completely blowing the May update deadline; real life had me pretty tied down during the usual update period, and afterwards, to be entirely honest, it slipped my mind.

Since we're actually closer to the June update timeframe by now, and I also happen to be taking some much-needed vacation in those same days, I will be doing a proper update at that time.

In the meanwhile, I will promote Grixis Control to DTB, since - even without doing the whole number-crunching - the rise of that deck is pretty clearly the main metagame news for May.

See you in a couple of weeks.

We have an unusually clean metagame this month. One deck's clearly on top, two more are significantly behind but basically even with each other, three more are another, bigger tier lower and again mostly on equal footing between themselves, and then there's the rest of the non-DtB rabble.

It almost feels like a real format.

September 2015 Update (http://www.tcdecks.net/format.php?format=Legacy)

So comes to the close the story of Dig. This is the last major update where it was legal.

http://i.imgur.com/cGDoimx.png (http://tcdecks.net/tierdecks.php?anio=2015&mes=10&format=Legacy)

90 points is the cutoff leaving us with the following 7 decks:

Grixis Control (TCDecks: Grixis Pyromancer)
Miracle Control
OmniTell
Blade Control
Ad Nauseam Tendrils
Burn
Team America

This means that for the update, Lands, 4C Delver and Shardless are out. Do not fear Shardless fans, you are defiantly back next month.

128 points is the cutoff leaving us many returning favourites, 7 of them in fact:

Miracle Control
Ad Nauseam Tendrils
Shardless BUG (TC: BUG Control)
Death and Taxes (Finn I am awaiting your first payment.)
RUG Delver (TC: Threshold UGr)
Team America
Elves!

We lose Grixis Control, Blade Control, OmniTell and Burn.

November 2015 Update

A fairly routine month with everything just kind of plodding along without any real changes or upsets. We do have two interesting footnotes though, one was that Lands won a GP and the other was that Aggro Loam has proven itself a deck worthy of attention. While neither made the cut this month both should be on your radar.

http://i.imgur.com/jHJe4z7.png (http://tcdecks.net/tierdecks.php?anio=2015&mes=12&format=Legacy)

With a total of 2856 points, the cutoff is 132. This leaves 5 decks in the DTB this month. They are:

Miracle Control
Shardless BUG (TCDecks: BUG Control)
Grixis Control (TCDecks: Grixis Pyromancer)
Ad Nauseam Tendrils
Death and Taxes

This means we lose Elves and Team America while we regain Grixis. The more things change.

Miracle Control
Ad Nauseam Tendrils
Team America
Grixis Tempo/Delver (TCDecks: Grixis Pyromancer)
Shardless BUG (TCDecks: BUG Control)

This means we lose Death and/or Taxes while enjoying our returning Delver overlords once more with Team America. The more things change.

Miracle Control
Shardless BUG (TCDecks: BUG Control)
Ad Nauseam Tendrils
Team America
Death and Taxes
Grixis Tempo/Delver (TCDecks: Grixis Pyromancer)

This means we keep the old boys club together and admit back Death and Taxes and the Green menace. Be careful around them though, they break bones whenever you break twigs just going for a stroll.

Point total comes in at only 1537 this month, not that anyone cares. No the story is the breakdown. With 71 points the cutoff we have 8 decks. Nothing special save for Shops The Rise of the Eldrazi. Long live The Gatewatch Terminus?

Miracle Control
Eldrazi
Grixis Tempo/Delver (TCDecks: Grixis Pyromancer)
Ad Nauseam Tendrils
U/G Infect (TCDecks: Berserk Stompy)
Shardless BUG (TCDecks: BUG Control)
Elves!
Team America

Into the top tables we have Infect and Shops Eldrazi but we lost DnT this month.
Well done to Eldrazi on the shocking rise. A deck ported from Modern into Legacy with the threat of becoming a staple of the Legacy meta for a while to come.

Eldrazi
Miracle Control
Grixis Tempo/Delver (TCDecks: Grixis Pyromancer)
U/G Infect (TCDecks: Berserk Stompy)
Death and Taxes

With a narrowing of the top performers to three powerful decks, Shardless, Elves, Storm and BUG get pushed out. DnT comes in but only just with Eldrazi, Miracles and Grixis taking the top spots by a landslide. Time to break out the artifact hate, the Stompy deck is here to stay.

Ahem. "All bow before Terminus, the King once more. All tremble before the old guard and repent for your sins of worshipping the Eldrazi and thinking it would ruin the format." (Also a Reality Smasher with a Plough in tentacle is just an amusing mental image.)

The month tops out at 2031 points, not the most active month this year but not the worst either. This leaves the cutoff at 93 points, just knocking out ANT. This again lets our now common tradition of only having 5 decks in the Forums this month continue. Might have to look into this. Anyway, here we are:

Miracle Control
Shardless BUG (TCDecks: BUG Control)
Eldrazi
Death and Taxes
Grixis Tempo/Delver (TCDecks: Grixis Pyromancer)

Not much to report. Infect drops from the top to make way for Shardless but other than that there is really not a whole lot to report. Seems the format is managing to deal with the recent changes and absorb them well into the Meta as a whole. Otherwise the usual shifts are occurring with a nice mix of nasties to be found here. At this point I think the only real news is that Grixis is well and truly the Delver deck of the format now. (Fly, be free.)

A slight bump from last month to 2296 points. This makes the cut off point 106. Nice and easy, a clean break between 6th and 7th place leaving us with 6 decks this month, somewhat of a novelty these days.

Miracle Control
Eldrazi
Shardless BUG (TCDecks: BUG Control)
Ad Nauseam Tendrils
Grixis Tempo/Delver (TCDecks: Grixis Pyromancer)
Team America

We gain two new entries while we lose the White Menace. A round of applause for ANT who is making itself known even with that Eldrazi style cage fight going on of late. The other thing to note is that Abrupt Decay seems to be good in the Meta, who would have known?

Grixis Tempo/Delver (TCDecks: Grixis Pyromancer)
Shardless BUG (TCDecks: BUG Control)
Ad Nauseam Tendrils
Eldrazi
Sneak & Show (TCDecks: Sneak Attack)

An interesting month, dropping Team America for the white menace and Sneak and Show. It is amusing that those two come in together. Also to note the declining number of Eldrazi. While still firmly a DTB the decks sliding numbers are not accidental.

1987 is the points total and a decent year for U2. (The Joshua Tree is a decent album) This leaves us with a cut off of 91 points meaning we drop to 5 decks. We now have the floodlights beaming on a tightening top field.

Miracle Control
Eldrazi
Grixis Tempo/Delver (TCDecks: Grixis Pyromancer)
Death and Taxes
Ad Nauseam Tendrils
U/G Infect (TCDecks: Berserk Stompy)

We lost SnT and Shardless with no new gains for the month. Miracles was the runaway best with almost double the points of Eldrazi, its nearest competitor. There is a very clear break between 6th place (Lands) and 5th place (ANT) leaving no doubt of where the dice fall. No matter how you slice it, we would only end up with these 5 this month. A very clean break for DTB.

Edit:
Thanks to TC Decks listing Infect as 3 different decks, me not noticing this and having to had it pointed out out me, Infect also makes the cut this month. With a total of 94 points, Infect will also be added to the DTB this month.

We top out points wise at 1118 with a cut of 51. I am going to call it at that. It was a dead month, this list means very little. I am not going to cut the DTB to only 3 decks on the back of nothing happened, so this month gets a pass. I will not be moving Lands in as the actual results are split between the two builds so I do not think it is fair to call that a DTB. I leave the others as they stand and call it there. I would like to note that under any normal month, 67 would not make the cut for DTB.

Also, for some reason, TC seems to be doubling up on deck titles. I missed this last month but I was looking for it this time. Eldrazi is not the top deck, Miracle Control is. It has a total of 116 points but that's not really much of a data point when you look at the months before. See you back here in a month folks, this one is firing blanks.

The month tops out at a whopping 898 total points. I am not sure if I should laugh or cry. This leaves us with a cut off of 41 points, again offering 3 decks. If we add this month and last month together we get 2016 points with a cut of 93. Much more respectable. With that cut, we end up with a DTB of the following five decks:

Miracles
Eldrazi
DnT
Lands
BUG Control

That is a fine list for the two months and I am happy with combining the two months to get to a more reasonable cut off point. Unless I have missed something these are to be the months top decks.

November 2016 Update

This is another spliced month. Now while I would normally make a joke here, this time I had to cut a lot of the duplicates out of the data and spent a lot of time looking into all the data as I cut it and put it back together. RUG Delver is no more, Patriot Blade is no more, Tide is no more. This format in the last few years has changed, it is not the format I remember coming back to. Changes, ebbs and flows in time have lead us to where we stand now. In the case of RUG I thought it worthwhile to point that fact out. The powerhouse of the Noughties, is no more.

http://imgur.com/O7af60e.png (http://tcdecks.net/metagame.php?format=Legacy&fecha=2016-11)
http://imgur.com/TOqdwsC.png (http://tcdecks.net/tierdecks.php?anio=2016&mes=12&format=Legacy)

The October and November stats together equal 2471. This causes a cut off at 114 points. A good number, but still a far from flawless situation to get to this point. Well, one problem at a time.

The following decks are in the DTB this month:

Miracles
Death and Taxes
Eldrazi
Infect
BUG Control

Not a large shake up of things. Lands drops out for Infect. I guess those blasted Phyrexian's have poisoned the fine Groves and Taiga on their Berserk charge to the top. They have no respect.

Edit:
Update. It has been brought to my attention that the majority of the decks labelled "Reanimator" are of the R/B build. This gives the deck enough points to be a DTB this cycle. Congratulations, you horrible horrible people...

This was a solid month, topping at 1860 points. A rise out of the recent slums. Add to that last months data and we have a overall total of 2666. Two times the evil. The cut off is 123 total and 86 for Jan alone. Either way we get the same list. This leaves us with the following:

Miralces
Bug Control (Both Leo and Shardless)
Sneak Attack
Grixis

This means we lose this month DnT, BR Reanimator, Infect and Eldrazi. Yes, that is correct, the menace that was going to come and destroy the format, end life as we know it and kill our game has fallen from grace. In fact it placed 12th overall in January.

Anyway, we have a cut to top 6 this month, the list includes

Death and Taxes
Miracles
Bug Control (Both Leo and Shardless)
Sneak Attack
Team America (BUG Delver)
Eldrazi

Anyhow. 2136 total, topping at 98 points. This means we have a pool of five decks with Infect just missing the cut for sixth place. Still its not bad. Feels like we are on a roll again.

Miracles
Death and Taxes
Sneak Attack
Eldrazi
ANT
Infect

BUG falls from grace and we get ANT in to replace her. I should make a joke here about a bugs life or something, but its too cheap a shot to take. Plus Antz was the better movie.

A cord swiftly pulled
A destiny to brave
To find in the future
The power we crave

To see one's own fate
Held in an object often spun
A gift some adored
But not equally by everyone

Its demise for many
A dream, a miracle
But the others cried no
Yet the data, empirical

She stood tall and proud
Above all that would test
There became only two;
Top dog, and the rest

A sign from the masses
"Please make it to stop"
Now the metal sits rested
That once mighty Top

For her long lasting Legacy
Shall be sung into lore
But now this eternal mistress
She will spin for us no more

This is the final month that Legacy had Top legal. So that means this month's data still includes Miracles. 294 points worth. Another first place, one final crown.

The total for the month was 2634, topping at 5 decks with a cut off at 121. This means our round up would be for this month the following:

Miracles
Death and Taxes
Eldrazi
Sneak Attack
Grixis Tempo

But just this one time, since we are removing from the DTB section Miracles I am going to remove the 294 points she held and recalculate. When I do that we end up with 2340 with a cutoff of 108. That means in this most odd of situations we have:

Death and Taxes
Eldrazi
Sneak Attack
Grixis Tempo
Food Chain
Infect

No matter how you may feel about this banning or this change, Legacy will carry on. We have been here before when Survival took a hit and we made it past that. For those of you who feel lost and unsure of what you should do next, the thread is not closed, it sits in the New and Developmental Decks (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?25-New-and-Developmental-Decks) section of this site. As does many other ideas, new and old, that many are seeking to try. Take your moment to grieve and then turn your eyes on tomorrow. Take those years of honing your skills with control and direct it into something fresh. It was not overnight that Miracles was built and it will not be overnight something new is found.

LANDS!
Blade Control

Well, that's quite the change. Looks like something big must have happened of late to turn the format on it's head. We lost Miracles!, Infect, Eldrazi and Food Chain. We get in return ANT, Delver, Elves!, Lands (Oorah) and Blade Control. BUG just missed the cut. All in all a good month.

Take out top, the dam thing just snaps back after a short time to brainstorm and unexpectedly, a short flusterstorm of activity later and we are all back to basics. Ok I will stop now.

Grixis Tempo

UR Burn (UR Delver)
ANT
Miracle Control

After the banning of top the prediction was that BUG would take over the format, that Decay would ramp up and DRS would take over the place. Meatloaf got at least two out of three, we cant even match that loafy goal.

3 is the total, 148 is the cut. This leaves us with 6 decks, one of them Lands! Makes me happy, and I am not biased at all.

Grixis Tempo
Death and Taxes
Blade Control
Lands!
Czech Pile (T/C 4c Control)
Sneak Attack

Wow thats a shake up. ANT, Delver and Miracles all leave and in their place we get the whole middle of the pack. I have not seen such a shakeup in a long time. Other than one top deck, the meta seems to be shifting around a lot, still looking for it's footing.

One down and one up.

A big month, 2607 points in total. One of the larger we have seen in a while. The cut is at 120, leaving us with 5 decks. 3 others only just missing the cut by only 10 or so points. Quite a tight DTB this month.

Czech Pile (T/C 4c Control)

Death and Taxes
ANT

So the SnT boys drop and we get the ANT nest back. Does anyone know where I left the Raid ant bait? Asking for a Lands sideboard.

3058 points for the month. A great showing. Sadly though with a cut of 141 we end up with only 4 decks.

We have found ourselves once again all Touched by His Noodly Appendage (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/90/Touched_by_His_Noodly_Appendage_HD.jpg) as the Eldrazi return. ANT, Elves and my wish to see Leo around anymore have all dropped out of sight.

Star Wars, because when your going to show the best fuck you ever put to cinema, make it silent and let the impact set in. Seriously folks, watch it. Its a masterclass in how to frame and light a scene. Also, Merry Christmas all. May you get at least the day off.

So the story of the month is that control deck that got a card banned from it, its um, kicking arse? Oh and Lands is back. That's really important too.
3256 is the total for the month, 145 is the cut. That leaves us with a more healthy 6 decks.

Grixis Tempo
Czech Pile (T/C 4c Control)
Eldrazi Stompy
Miracle Control
Lands!
ANT

DnT we hardly knew thee. Please stay dead, at least for now... God I hate Basic Lands. Lands seemed like a sure thing. 6 out of the top 22 decks in that SCG thing that happened but who's counting? ANT is nice too. At least we know the Cthulhu crowd can't keep them down.

I for one celebrate the return of the great deck Lands with 171 making the cut off of 173 by the skin of it... NOOOO!

3762 for the month, that is really quite a sizable number. The cut off is 173 with a total of 8 decks for the month:

Grixis Tempo
Czech Pile (T/C 4c Control)
Death and Taxes
Miracle Control
Sneak Attack
Eldrazi
Elves!
Turbo Depths

DnT, Elves and What? Ok, look, I want to make something very very clear. We should all worship her dark name but they... THEY ARE HERETICS! Oh sorry, I meant Turbo Depths.

February 2018 Update

Once upon a time there was this Red two drop. People thought he was cool but not strong enough to make it in the format called Legacy. But this two drop he never gave up. After working for years at proving his worth he would finally realise his dream and become a force in the format all by himself. Oh and the banning of Top may have helped. This tale of triumph against the odds would be a heartwarming story if not for... well the rest of the fucking format.

We hit 3317 points, not as much as last month but still quite the showing. This means that the cut off is at 153 and gives us a total of 7 decks for the month.

Grixis Tempo
Czech Pile (T/C 4c Control)

UBx Shadow
Death and Taxes
Grixis Control
Grixis Pyro
Sneak and Show
Lands
Miracle Control

Grixis Control
Miracle Control
UBx Shadow
Death and Taxes
Eldrazi
Ad Nauseam Tendrils

So we get Dagon and ANT, we lose Pyro, SnT, Lands (boo) and Blade. Not all that much change all told over the last month. Other that Shadow slipping some.

March Update:
https://i.imgur.com/JUCFzMq.png
https://i.imgur.com/EBxCkBx.png

So, this month has both suppressed results, from the ongoing fact that the pandemic has all but eliminated all paper results, and the fact of the number one deck there being Banned already.

So, computationally, our outcome should be a cutoff of 54 points. Since results were low, I don't think we got the full divergence we usually would, since that would give us a "top" 11 decks (minus one banned), and I think even 10 is too many.

As I result, I am going to just take the "next" top 8 decks, giving us:
Death and Taxes (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?6775-Deck-Death-and-Taxes)
Miracles (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?31855-DTB-UWx-Miracle-Control)

Again, suppressed results from lack of paper event, and so on. Computationally, we should be about 41 points. However, honestly, it doesn't seem, to me, that Omni is really dominating or doing much. So, I am going to cut to the top 8.

4C Control (Snowko, Czech Pile and more!) (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?33309-4C-Control-(Snowko-Czech-Pile-and-more!))

So, May of 2020, results are still all over, due to suppressed paper play, still, and the whole Companion debacle.

https://i.imgur.com/9PiWBSI.png
https://i.imgur.com/7bu9G92.png

The question is, what now? While Grixis and TA results were mainly fueled by the now banned Lurrus, even post post ban, Grixis has put up results. TA has not. So, I am inclined to cut TA. Our computational level should be about 37 points, but, like has been usual, our suppressed results has not given us much divergence. RUG Delver is in, along with Miracles, Infect, 4c and Lands. Now, "Fish" is actually Esper Vial and that clearly has enough points.

Also, I am inclined to exclude Gyruda for the moment, until the deck demonstrates that it can win through the Companion rule change.

RUG Delver (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?27776-Deck-Canadian-Threshold-(aka-RUG-Delver-Tempo-Thresh))

R/G Lands (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?29193-Primer-R-G-Lands)

We don't have a thread for a real Esper Vial deck. I could reuse Bahra's Spicy Popcorn (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?32346-Spicy-Popcorn) thread, but that hardly is the same deck. Might just have to hold off on that deck while I work up a thread.

Oh boy, that was a good bit a data. Seemed fairly clear, aside the nebulous category of "Bant" which really were all Miracles decks, that just happen to run Green. So, with that merged, Miracles makes it (which makes perfect sense, really). Clean cut off too, 90.5 points, giving us a clear top 8. Sorry Maverick, :frown: (still love you).

One thing to note, is that right now, TCDecks has GW Depths decks merged with Turbo Depths decks. For right now, I am going to leave it, we also have no thread for GW Depths, so no real conflict as of yet. But something to keep an eye on for future results.
