Including our names would have been tight.

Goblins1: Adam Yurchick
Goblins2: J.R. Wade
BUW: Ervin Tormos
Flash w/r: Tom LaPille
Affinity: Nathan Bramlett
UWB: Doug Prosak
Mono B: Mike Belfatto
Flash: No idea. Sorry!

I'd like to note that all of us except maybe the last flash player are not legacy specialists. Also, Caboose got ninth; someone beat him in the last round, as opposed to drawing or scooping him in, even though he already had three byes. I would like to think that this is karmic payback for attempting to soil the reputation of Chris Ripple, who is and has always been an upstanding citizen and talented magic player.

they're in our formats, stealin' our byes...

yeah folks if you're going keep an eye out for shady characters in trench coats who might slip the giant check under their clothes and run for the door.

pros are sketchy characters. I have it on good authority that this LaPille guy interferes with small children in a sexual manner.

Actual pros can be somewhat sketchy. However, I'm actually only a level one mage, as are Prosak and Wade. Tormos and Yurchick are level two, so I'd be much more wary of them.

That "someone" was your best friend, Adam Yurchick. He wanted to play it out so he could go on to scoop to his friend in the T8, or some nonsense.

By the way, is the last line of your post sarcastic?

EDIT: I had cards stolen at this tournament. :frown:

Tom LaPille

No, it's becuase I think you were entirely out of line to tell the world that Chris Ripple cheated your friend when in fact your friend did not understand how the combat step work and blew the game because of that.

Also, I know personally the original creator of type four (Anthony Avitollo); he has a cube now.

Sorry for not posting your names didn't know if yall would be offended by it or something. Who got cards stolen at the tournament? We take it very seriously and would of done something about it, do you know what they were in case I hear something?

I'm pretty sure the original creator of Type 4 is Paul Mastriano.

I had a box of Future Sight with a stack of rares in it that wouldn't fit in my binder. It also had a draft set or two inside. It really isn't a huge loss, but it's sort of annoying. Thanks though.

I was goign to post to that effect, but I couldn't remember how to spell his last name, and I'm way too lazy to go to star city and look or just adam or mike. He's awful good at it, too. And he like prints his own cards, on foils that he wipes with acetone. Cool guy.

Haha, those are the best ones. My favorite is "Decree of the Creator" with Paul in the picture doing some random shit. So much hilarity!

Incorrect. As Paul tells me, he saw some kids playing a proto-T4 game in NY(I think) and then adapted it into what we know of as T4. Differences included a shared stack and drafting it out. He did not come up with infinite mana Arcane Lab multiplayer, however.

I'll yeild to the prom queen on this one. I think my favorite card of Paul's has to be Mishra's Dots, if not for the "stealing from opponent's 'yard" then for the amazing flavor text.

In Steve Menendian's original article entitled 'Limited Infinity' on mtg.com, there was a section entitled 'Paul Mastriano's Thanks'. In the first sentences of this section was a story of how he discovered Type 4 magic, and he states he saw some people playing it in Akron, OH and thought it was a good idea so he adapted it. (I will link the article later, since my work will not let me access mtg.com). Having lived in Akron, OH at the same time, he could have only seen myself or people who played the format with me. Once I moved to Tempe, AZ, I stopped playing the format entirely for a variety of reasons. Imagine my surprise and delight when I saw that other were still playing the format that I started just as something to do between rounds and with junky cards! I was, however, a little put off by someone else taking credit for inventing it even though there were some changes made. I have had mixed feelings about it ever since; happy because it is still being played, annoyed because the 'child' I created was never attributed to me. LOL, I remember when Adam Prosak linked me to that article and was saying that it looked new and cool, and I just thought to myself, "that isn't new, I used to play that years ago!"

When I made the format originally, it was a way to use all those expensive (mana-wise) rares that never saw play (xanthic statue and spelljack were some of my favorites). We did, in fact, use a shared stack of cards and the infinite mana arcane lab rules at the beginning.

Hope this clears the origins up a little. And I still like our Cube more than I liked type 4...t4 was something to do inbetween rounds, cube is something I will come out to specifically play with friends.

This seems oddly similar to when you believed that your friend was cheated out of his Wild Mongrel and wouldn't hear anything to the contrary. I believe the judge involved had something to say over in the other thread about that. (http://mtgthesource.com/forums/showpost.php?p=132127&postcount=33)

Fair enough. After all the evidence came in, it seems that my friend indeed made a mistake. I was not watching the game, so I had to believe him over Chris Ripple. I don't know why you're still dragging me through the mud for my mistake, though.

I suppose the traditional way to conclude this is, we cross Hanzo swords. Well, it just so happens, this hacienda comes with its very own private beach. And this private beach just so happens to look particularly beautiful bathed in moonlight. And there just so happens to be a full moon out tonight. So, swordfighter, if you want to sword fight, that's where I suggest. But if you wanna be old school about it - and you know I'm all about old school - then we can wait till dawn, and slice each other up at sunrise, like a couple real-life, honest-to-goodness samurais.

EDIT: I SAW WHAT YOU DID THERE

Caboose

Dear Tom and Gerry,

I understand you are frustrated with me for assuming Chris Ripple was cheating when he wasn't. Although I have apologized, you continue to act like typical arrogant Magic players and insult me. I have nothing against either of you. You guys have Top 8'd at a GP like 5 times each, and you don't deserve the comments I made out of frustration against you. But I also don't deserve the comments you have made about me. We are all grown ass men, and should put this difference behind us, so we can all avoid looking like tools.

Thanks,
Kyle

Here is the url:

and here is the quote:

Paul Mastriano's Thanks

I think I made up Limited Infinity somewhere during the late 90's. I saw some kids sitting at a tournament, I think it was in Akron, Ohio, playing games with infinite mana and one card per turn limits. They called it Type 4, and I was intrigued to make a deck of my own, but few people would play with me.

and here is your crow...so eat it.

Petty fighting is the root of all things Magical. Not that I would call crossing Hanzo swords petty; just ask O-Ren Ishii's scalp.

It didn't. He never played against flash. He beat threshold, monoblack, and fish in the top 8. It probably wouldn't have won but the fish player punted a game. In the swiss he beat a goblins player and 2 other decks I'm not sure of, but I know he didn't play against flash.

I'd be interested to know how affinity beat flash? As said above, I don't know that Affinity actually played against Flash in this tourney. However, did you happen to look at that Affinity list? It was clearly metagamed to beat the field with maindeck Leylines > Flash and maindeck E-plagues > Joblins w/Chrome Mox to pitch it to when not needed.

Affinity has a naturally strong matchup against Thresh and Fish, which has improved marginally since their change from Needle to Stifle. I personally appluad what I believe to be a very strong meta choice. It also went straight black/red and ran Sensei Tops, another choice that makes me smile.

Tom LaPille
05-16-2007, 03:02 PM
That affinity list is TERRIBLE. Top is comically awful. Leyline with no other disruption is not going to stop flash when your clock is turn four or five. If I had played him in the finals instead of Ervin, I am 100% certain that I would have demolished him.

I was looking at the Affinity list and I'm still shock on how in the hell this deck won the GPT. I have played Affinity quite a bit up here in Syracuse, but with the emergence of Hulk Flash it is no longer a viable deck for the GP. The colors that I usually play is red/black/green. The green was for main deck Berserk and sideboard Krosan Grip. It was capable of winning on turn 3 or 4, which is strictly a race against all combo decks.

As we discussed on The Source, we decided that engineered plague could be replaced with pyroclasm in the board mainly for goblins. As I believe the goblins matchup is very good, but with all the Hulk Flash decks around now, I don't think its a great choice to play.
