That isn't normal, they're experiencing some technical difficulties most likely. Usually the coverage is at most one round behind. The fact that there've been no updates makes me think the laptop denounced its contract or something. It wouldn't be the first time either. But we'll find out later, I guess. Hoping they'll get the Columbus-coverage online at some point though :/

Not to stir up trouble, but I thought Jack was banned from sanctioned tournaments for awhile yet?

SpatulaOfTheAges

Jack was temporarily unbanned, I believe.

I know Jack is playing some Hulk-variant. I'm not sure about Krieger or Anwar, though I think they both have the cards for it and had been testing it.

Do you know what they played against?

Have they given u any info about the Flash turnout or the mix of decks?

I just deleted a bunch of posts to keep this thread as streamlined as possible. And yes, I just used "u." And I also started two sentences with a coordinating conjunction. Put that in your brother's pipe and smoke it.

How does that compare to the other GPs?

The Euro Block tourney had maybe 1200 players. So our attendance is good for a Legacy GP but not that great for a GP.

SpatulaOfTheAges
05-19-2007, 04:05 PM
The Philly GP was less(~500) but the Lille was more(~1000), I believe.

The Euro Block tourney had maybe 1200 players. So our attendance is good for a Legacy GP but not that great for a GP.

But for an AMERICAN GP this attendance is amazing. I want to say there have been like 2 or 3 American continent GPs - ever - that have broken 1000 players. Almost 900 is a very good GP.

Barook
05-19-2007, 04:09 PM
*The motherfuckers are the people that say Legacy is trash.
Like... Wizards!?

But, wow, 883 people is definitely alot, especially after the whole Hulk Flash desaster.

Btw: Is it just me or is BDM really incompetent at covering the GP? I do get that impression when i read stuff like this:

Legacy is a tremendously popular casual format because relatively inexpensive decks like Goblins, Threshold, and White Weenie have all been successful in the format.

And who the fuck gives a shit about some weird casual format who is played by some nerds who will never ever get laid?

edit: I'm talking about that stupid thing called Harem, of course.

SpatulaOfTheAges
05-19-2007, 04:11 PM
Dave:

Dave (Deep6er) 4-0 Hulk
Alix (ObFreely) 4-0 Hulk
Dominic (Happy Gilmore) 4-0 Hulk
Jesse (Mad Zur) 2-2 Slivers
Calosso (calosso) 3-1 Slivers

PS, I thought the Harem thing was cool, Mr. Grumpy Pants.

I think that the anti-hype hype and the large attendance have created a killing field for the people smart enough to play Hulk. But we'll see.

Also this part:

"relatively obscure cards like Imperial Seal"

Peter_Rotten
05-19-2007, 05:03 PM
@ Rotten: Probably both.

But seriously, the fact that he said imperial seal was legal was actually disgusting. The other mistakes aren't terribly big deals, but I believe that Imperial Seal being legal would make a pronounced difference, especially in a format dominated by combo at the moment.

Kronicler

Let's get over it. He said it and we'll probably forget about it once there is another update.

Deleted a bunch of stuff to keep us as reasonably focused as possible.

The thing I blame BDM the most for is not taking a picture of the two dudes playing "Harem". It could help so many people suffering from low self-esteem.

Jack 4-1 Hulk
Anwar - Out
Alix 5-0 Hulk
Dave 4-1 Hulk(lost to Smennen playing Hulk(featured match))
So Smennen 5-0 Hulk
Torgor 4-0 last reported w/ Wombat?

Dave 4-1 Hulk(lost to Smennen playing Hulk(featured match))

I would LOVE the details of that match. What builds they were playing, any trash talking, play mistakes, game results (did Smenny win 2-0 or 2-1?), etc.

I think that the anti-hype hype and the large attendance have created a killing field for the people smart enough to play Hulk. But we'll see.

As soon as I heard the attendance figure, I just thought "Wow, Hulk is going to rape, and hulk hate decks are probably going to run into too much randomness."

Jack 4-1 Hulk
Anwar - Out
Alix 5-0 Hulk
Dave 4-1 Hulk(lost to Smennen playing Hulk(featured match))
So Smennen 5-0 Hulk

Looks like that might actually be happening.

Dave 4-1 Hulk(lost to Smennen playing Hulk(featured match))
So Smennen 5-0 Hulk
Torgor 4-0 last reported w/ Wombat?

I am somewhat saddened by Smennen not getting crushed.

Wombat? Seriously?

Also, to Phantom: Agreed completely. A good rule is the larger the tournament, the better off you are playing the "Best deck."

SpatulaOfTheAges
05-19-2007, 05:52 PM
Dave lost 2-0, I don't know about builds. Jack's loss came from Goblins, LOLZ.

Wombat, seriously. I imagine he fed off of Fish and Goblins.

SpatulaOfTheAges
05-19-2007, 06:31 PM
From Dave:

Jack 4-2 (lost to Landstill)
Dave 4-2 (lost to Goblins w/ MD Leylines)
Dan(nitewolf) 4-2 Hulk
Jesse (Mad Zur) 3-3 Slivers
Dominic(Happy Gilmore) 5-1 Hulk
Zohar(powergamer) 5-1 (didn't catch deck)
Caboose 3-2-1 Fish
Allan(URABAHN) 3-3 Landstill
Turpyn(T is for Tool) 4-2 (didn't catch what he was playing)
Brian (wastedlife) 5-1 TES
Machinus 4-2 Hulk
Tom Smart 4-2 BHWC Landstill
JimP(JRP) 6-0 BHWC Landstill

Dave vs Smennen - Dave is playing Kiki w/ Petals + Confidant and Deed, Smennen is playing Disciple build with some accel suite. Game 1 Dave is on the play and Smennen has the turn 1 kill, but Dave stops him from going off. He gets a Confidant in play and gets Wipe Away off of him, then draws Duress for the turn. Forgetting that Smennen is playing Disciple kill, he holds off for Wipe Away, and that's all she wrote.

Game 2 he keeps trying to draw Therapy but they're having a good-card-party-on-the-bottom-and-you're-not-invited.

Top tables are mostly Hulk-flash and Hulk-flash-hate. It sounds like a lot of Landstill mainly, which makes sense, since it has the same kind of match-up against Hulk as Fish and beats Fish.

The highest Sourcer I see is Happy Gilmore. LoLz.

I lied about errands, I guess.

Nick Trodeau got DQed for trying to change the results slip when he lost to John(Shaq-Fu). Shaq-Fu is playing Hulk, and he was X-2 I believe.

Yeah, but still, anytime half of the top X is a single deck, that's pretty amazing. Especially when the other top decks appear to be hate decks (I'm assuming here that they all made allowances in their builds to Flash). I'm not saying anything is definitive yet, but it sure looks amazing.

Also, would it be too much to ask WoTC for the Elf vs. Burn matchup report we've all been waiting for.

I've never played in a two day event, but why did so many people (like 15) intentionally draw in round 9? And most of them ended at 19, just enough to make top 128. Sure, it guarantees you a Day 2 spot, but it also puts you potentially 2 more points away from a top 8. Are people more interested in getting some prize money, pro points, and amateur prize rather than giving yourself some shot for the top 8? Or, is even 2 losses generally not going to cut it for the top 8?

It would seem that Robert Vroman (Vintage fame) is going to day 2. Curious if he is playing Stax, as that is what he typically plays in Type 1.

From the sounds of it, Feldman is playing a Trinity Green-style deck splashing black. He finished Day 1 at 8-0-1.

Interesting.

I'd like to see Paul Cheon's deck from the Round 9 feature match. Shadowmage Infiltrators are hot :)

Trudeau put on his cheaty face for sure. I hear he crossed out the results slip and wrote in a win. One less Landstill deck at Worlds, I guess

Like round 6-ish? I guess his opponent complained the next round when he realized he was still at the same points. Trudeau allegedly claimed he remembered winning the match, but could not recall any details. Trudeau was DQ'd, and the opponent had to keep the fake match loss. That sucks hardcore.

EDIT: This isn't another Caboose vs. Chris Ripple thing. I'm not trying to tarnish Trudeau's name, but it's relevant information. I frankly don't care one way or the other.

I never thought a guy like Nick Trudeau would do such a thing... that may have explained his success forever....

Well, I'm looking forward to tomorrow. I want to see the list for that Elf deck. Seriously....that's awesome. The Newb way down deep wants to see it...but he's the one that went 8-0-1 with it, so he clearly knows something I don't. I love it when the newb in me gets to play a deck that is good.

That "Bigger Fish" Deck sounds cool, and I really hope Pinder keeps kicking butt and taking names tomorrow with Meathooks. Good luck to all the Sourcers that made day two!

I cannot tell for sure but the elf deck sounds like a deck that was played in the Starcitygames Legacy tournament. I also like to see that Stephen agrees with me and its not playing the s_ckass version of the Hulk Flash that I have criticized so harshly. Other than that, I would love to see the goblin build.

Knowing Richard Feldman, his list probably did use Trinity Green as a starting point, but then was added an entirely new layer thanks to some 8-12 cards no-one would have ever thought of putting in the deck.

Richard Feldman is concentrated awesome. Go Richie!

I played him round 9, actually. He was one of my 2 losses. Quadruple Wasteland in a row game 2, followed by Crucible. Wasn't pretty.

Hell of a nice guy though. He told me his one loss was actually to someone else playing CounterSliver. Despite the loss, it was actually one of the most fun matchups I'd had all day.

I hope his opponent took him out back and feed Trudeau his balls for that fake match loss.

You know that that "suckass" build is in the number one spot, right?

Edit: To clarify a question on another board and raised earlier in this thread, Jack's unbanning had something to do with tugging at Andy Heckt heartstrings because Jack is joining the army, and this tourney is a couple week before he goes for his exam.

Wow. Good luck to him.

On a different note, should we have a separate thread for Day 2?

I think there should be a new thread, since day 1 stuff doesn't matter anymore. Except maybe some deck lists of the people who didn't make day 2?

I would agree 100%. He's also the best writer that SCG has...but that's neither here nor there.

Thanks again for clearing up Jack's situation, Spat, because I was wondering the same thing. I must say, Andy Heckt allowing him to play amazes me, and seems like a class act, which I certainly don't expect from anyone in his position. As far as Jack joining the Army...if that's what he wants to do, more power to him.

I just want to see the T8 and see how it plays out. I mean, I don't expect there to be like 8 Flash decks, but I do think that there will be probably 3-4, which is still somewhat problematic. I think a bigger issue will be seeing how many FoW are in the T8. I say 28. 32 is a good possibility, but I expect something slightly different (Goblins, etc.) to sneak in.

We'll see, I guess.

Yes, that one exactly! LAME.

(I'm hoping that some miracle works and stops those lists from top 8ing just to save some face, but lets face it, I'm screwed. Flash IS the best deck in the format)

Okay, I went to the GP yesterday with Aluren.

First round I got paired against Ewokslayer with U/b Hulk Flash with the Kiki kill. Brian got unlucky with his Brainstorm in the first game and got stuck on one land which gave me enough time to go off. The second game I had to mulligan to five with a pretty bad hand. Brian steamrolled me. The third game I started off with a hand that had two cabal therapies in it. He dazed my first therapy but could not stop the second(naming Flash). Next turn I extirpated his flashes but I still had nothing in my hand. Once I started to get creatures done it was already to late. So we drew that round.

The next round I was paired against Faery Stompy. I had easy control of the first game but screwed up the combo and got a game loss. The next game I had to mulligan to 4 or 5 and wasn't even in the game.

Third round I was paired up against Hulk Flash with the disciple kill. First game I kept a hand without Force of Will and lost. The second game(pretty fuzzy) I had a therapy the first turn but he dazed it. He won the next turn and then I dropped.

Bad beats, but I had a good time. I'm glad to see that Ewokslayer made it to Day 2 along with the rest of the Sourcers. It was great seeing them. I floated around the tables all day. It was a sea of Hulk Flash and Fish. There were a few goblin decks doing very well before I left during Round 8. Gabe Walls I believe was playing some R/g Loam deck with Devastating Dreams. All the other pros I saw were playing Hulk Flash and Fish.

Good luck to all of the Sourcers left.

P.S - I let one of my friends borrow CRET Belcher for the Legacy Side Event(First place was a English Mana Drain). We weren't able to get him a sideboard but he ended up beating everyone except for Affinity with Force. He got Belcher out turn 2 but only hit for 16 and he died next turn. Second game he got Empty the Warrens out first turn for 8 goblins but lost with the Affinity player at 3 because of double Plating. He did not run into any Forces or Flash decks during the event. I was surprised he did so well because he had no sideboard with maindeck Burning Wishes. Oh well.

Just as an FYI, since we're including Sourcers who made Day 2, I also did playing 4c Landstill going 7-2 and ending up in 75th place. I guess there had to be one honest 4c Landstill player going to day 2, eh?

The event was solid, excellently run, and everyone I played against or talked to was super friendly and polite and I had fun chatting with other Sourcers for the first time face to face.

Made my comments about Flash in the Day 2 thread.

I went to a trial and lost to corupted angel on the first and 3rd turns respectivley. So I decided I better change the deck I was going to play. Survival couldn't cut it. So I watched Kaddy play and copied his deck. Fish with the entire flash combo as a sideboard. I think it was the second time I ever played blue in a tourney. I went 6-3 and ended in 203rd. I think if i played my survival deck i would have made day two, I would have stomped the decks I played. Considering I only played flash once, I should have stuck with my 'beat the hate' strategy.

Dave Price did acceptably with Survival; there's a good chance he would have made day 2 if he had recieved his bye. I think it was a fine deck to play.
