Can you Stifle a Standstill?

You can Stifle the Standstill trigger, but doing so would be less than brilliant.

When Standstill triggers, it isn't sacrificed until its ability resolves. Meaning if you play a Stifle targeting the trigger, another Standstill trigger is going to go on the stack.

So your opponent would get the cards.

Can you Stifle a Standstill?Yes and no.

Yes - There is a triggered ability on Standstill which can be Stifled.

No - When you play the Standstill, the card triggers again, and the ability resolves before Stifle.

So in essence, Stifle is ineffective vs. Standstill. The same goes for Trickbind, if you're wondering.

Edit - I'm fucking sick of getting beaten to the punch on these.

Standstill {1U} |Enchantment| When a player plays a spell, sacrifice Standstill. If you do, each of that player's opponents draws three cards. OD-U [Vin Leg Ext legal.]
When you play a spell, Standstill triggers. You respond to this by playing another spell. Standstill triggers. Then you respond to this by playing a spell. Standstill triggers.
The stack:
Standstill Trigger 3
Instant 3
Standstill Trigger 2
Instant 2
Standstill Trigger 1
Instant 1
------

You let Standstill Trigger 3 resolve. Your opponent sacrifices Standstill and draws three cards. Instant 3 resolves. Standstill Trigger 2 resolves, but does nothing. Instant 2 resolves. Standstill Trigger 1 resolves, but does nothing. Instant 1 resolves. The distinction is that the triggers resolve, but have no effect.

All this junk is just confusing the issue. While none of it is technically incorrect, it's not really serving to clearly answer the original quesion, either.

Un-helpful stuff deleted, thread closed.
