with the banning of metalworker, the best mana producer in legacy is out. However, to gain infinite life, draw and mana, a creature that can produce five or more mana is needed. I can think of only two:
Viridian Joiner and Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary

the two creatures got some disadvantages in mana producing:

Rofellos needs five forests in play, which halts the deck a lot. However, with chalices, spheres, thorns or whatever, it is possible to make the game last that long.

Viridian Joiner needs 5 power. This is best done with Might of Old Krosa, but Joiner Adepts require the combo to be a 3 card which I don't like. Are there any other efficent (must be cheaper than 4cc) mana producing tap creatures? If so, I'll come up with a decklist within the next days.

Priest of Titania (http://magiccards.info/fnmp/en/35.html) in combination with Staff of Domination (http://magiccards.info/5dn/en/156.html) only requires you to have 4 other elves in play to generate infinite life/draws etc.
A while back, an elf deck featuring this combo alongside some beatdown top8ed (http://www.germagic.de/dc/deck.php?id=9585) twice (http://www.germagic.de/dc/deck.php?id=10825) at a large German Legacy event (I still don't know how this could happen...). You could get ideas from those lists.
The good thing of putting this into an elf shell is that you don't rely on the combo as you can just go beatdown as an alternative plan. You could also just look into the Crytalline Elves thread (http://mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7233) on this site, search a list you like and throw in 3 Staff of Dominations.

Priest of Titania, and Magus of the Candelabra (or similar) plus Cradle/Sanctum/Coffers/Tide/whatever. Seems to be about it.

Crystalline Elves is not the deck for this. The whole point there is to make your Elves untargetable, which leverages some pretty massive synergies with Staff. Look for the other Elves! thread.

Composite Golem saccs for 5 Mana. There was also an infinite Combo with him, but I forgot that Combo.

Corpse dance+ composite golem brings him in and out of play infinitely, but uses up all the mana he generates. I don't remember a different combo...

Jet Medallion makes the Corpse Dance cost less giving you large amounts of mana + storm count (infinite technically, but you have to state a number).

Once upon a time....

Ok so it was only about 2-3 years ago, I had a nasty aggressive enchantress deck that used Viridian Joiner and the main card that actually made him work as good as he did, was an old school near forgotten one drop :g: enchant creature

Instill Energy

Haste + double tap for mana (though Joiner may still not be your option for this deck, this card on the right mana creature can become abusive)

Granted this is a sad state of affairs trying to replace metalworker with a 2 card combo, but what can you do?

Rofellos and Magus of the Coffers are your best bet. They're the only two that can do it without other creatures/artifacts/enchantments being involved.

For what it's worth, I've been working on this deck for months in a control shell and can't get it to work.

I've always liked playing Sliver Queen in a Stax shell with Heartstone and Ashnod's Altar for infinite 1/1 slivers. Composite Golem was the card I used to cast Sliver Queen.

sliver queen works best with mana echoes. You can also use a hell lot of other "mana: creature token" abilities. But the only problem is the cc of both cards.. they all seem to be pretty high.
