  1. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

Add to the fact that there were fewer foils per box at that time. I cracked a box of Nemesis a few months ago and only got a handful of foils and no rare foil.

I recently traded away my foil...
  2. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

Not to speak for Ben/SCG, but just speaking about retail in general, I don't think lowering the prices on bulk rares will necessarily shift them all that much quicker. If you have, let's say 100 of...
  3. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

Oh. Hmm, I guess that is mostly speculation anyway since it hasn't even made an impact on anything yet. Nonetheless, yeah, strange and perhaps a good sign.
  4. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

Do you have any examples (card names), because I wonder if it has to do with their anticipation of the new Extended and being overstocked?
  5. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

That's a buy-it-now price. If you look at completed listings you'll see they're all over the place, ranging from $50-$100. Averaging the last five sales they're at about $75.
  6. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

Ok, I would even accept a Recruiter that has some limitations, like "Search your library for a creature card with a converted mana cost of three or less."
  7. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

Not to quibble, but do you mean M11's Aether Adept? If so, that's hardly Cavern Harpy 4-8. Aluren already had access to Man-o'-War and Dream Stalker (or in your opinion Cavern Harpies 4-12 )....
  8. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

With Urza's Legacy hitting MTGO Monday, I wonder how much they're going to go for on there. Maybe they'll be cheaper than LED.
  9. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

    Necro.

So, the blood is in the water and the sharks are in full feeding frenzy mode, Grim Monolith is up for speculation. I posted on someone's MOTL list last night for 4 he had at $5 and a Power...
  10. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

I think one problem with questions like this is the lack of any time frame. Do you mean 1 year, 5 years, 10 years, etc.? I can't see it being as highly used as Tarmogoyf and that has settled at...
  11. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

I held onto a mint Eureka for yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeears and it was always just around twenty +. Traded it away in January. *sigh*
  12. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

The first question that springs to mind is are those figures only since Instigator was created? There must be plenty of decks on deckcheck from before Warren Instigator was even created.
  13. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

I know I shouldn't be, but I can't help being surprised over and over by this trend. I can still remember the hottest T2 and Extended cards usually being about $20, and now that's laughable. I'd...
  14. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

Yeah, I tend to agree. Also, for those of us who think dual lands and cards such as Force of Will, which are needed for a several tier one decks, need some kind of price limitation get their...
  15. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

I have to respectfully disagree on a number of points. First, as I said, decreasing values occur for several reasons. Like Ben said in his article, Birds of Paradise maintained its value through...
  16. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

How are increasing values better for the game than decreasing values?

And, my point was not to put a value judgement (good or bad) on increasing/decreasing card values, just that fluctuations are...
  17. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

I think you were missing his point – which I tend to think is an excellent one. Card values decrease. Live with it. Whether values drop because of reprinting (which has never really been proven)...
  18. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

That Magic is more swingy, I can agree. Hell, if you watch the youtube video of Ken Nagel (? designer of Worldwake) giving a Q&A on the Love Boat, he openly says Magic to Wizards is meant to be...
  19. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

I have to respectfully disagree that Magic is somehow being dumbed down or that it is largly luck based and hence not very skill intensive. Instead of comparing it to Chess, let's compare it to...
  20. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

Wrath of God was printed in both Portal I and II (BB), as a a BB textless promo, and as anonymos says, as FBBs. It has millions of black bordered copies in addition to A/B and those originals are...
  21. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

=Aleksandr;430364]Well, you know that alpha WoG does not cost that much as it would cost, wouldn't it be reprinted in every basic set since alpha?[/QUOTE]

Considering it's not really Vintage or...
  22. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

But cards like Wrath of God kind of discredit that view, don't they? Wrath has been reprinted numerous times but Alpha and Beta versions are still worth a good sum. Reprinting doesn't always = a...
  23. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

Applause. I would probably not agree so much if it weren't for their incessant revamping of Magic and what "real" Magic should be. Oh, duals are too good, let's make Tempest shite lands like Mogg...
  24. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

I wonder to what extent MTGO may attract people when Legacy is launched. I know for me, I use it for Pauper since time constraints and the fact that there is no Magic here whatsoever give me no...
  25. Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard

What the hell does he know, he's not some kind of genius mathematician who invented the game... oh... wut? He did?

Seriously, he is – of course – right on the money (no pun intended). For the...
