Yes. It's tempting to throw away the deck's strenghts to fight things not worth fighting.
Example: Xantid Swarm seems a very appropriate protective card.
However... if we blow a Petal, we're down...
@ Bruizar: sounds reasonable to me.
Something else: If your potentially-useless artifacts are as cheap as they are in this deck, I usually found Arcane Denial more attractive than Thirst for...
I'd play Brainstorm over some of the disruption. finding a Counterbalance is good, being used as a probably-counter if you have one out is good, the option to find a threat is good.
A slightly different direction, but it may be worth considering Coiling Oracle and Wood elves to set up an accelerated Evacuation - quite nasty with Eternal Witness recursion. You can round this out...
It's a rare but interesting archetype that presents a dilemma to our opponent - they may need an early answer to have a chance against a combo hand, but aggressive mulligans are a liability against...
I think the right number for Sensei's Divining Top is one, very roughly analogous to Sylvan Library in Zoo. It's strong enough to warrant the spot in a deck that depends on having the right threats,...
If you Divert their Thoughtseize back at them, they still get to choose which card to discard.
MGC_player provided some very good information already, but here a few more details.
Most obviously, the Storm Combo archetype. Decks that frequently killl outright on turn 1 are Spanish...
First, it's not Legacy-legal - Mystical Tutor is banned.
Second, it's just not on the usual power level. Top heavy, without anything to buy you time. Fast Legacy creature decks decks can usually...
Based on those fears, it seems what you want is a recurring damage source at the high end of the curve to dodge Counterbalance. If you run out of burn spells because you need to use them to stay...
Burn is slightly underpowered by Legacy standards, so if you play it you should have a good reason. The slots past bolts&blasts should be tech to give you an edge or save you against the one thing...
A few things about the legacy format:
Many of the straightforward aggro decks can kill a goldfish on turn 3 and someone playing 1-2 blockers on turn 4.
The fastest combo decks have a slightly...
I'm going to be shouted at for suggesting one of the most-denounced cards in Magic... but in a deck with so many cheap hit-or-miss cards Arcane Denial is about as good as Thirst for Knowledge as a...
Spring Tide has a few natural advantages:
- remarkable consistency
- robust mana base
- plenty of creature bounce
- hard counters
- good cantrips and tutors, big draw spells can also be used for...
I've been tinkering with Survival in Legacy before it was called Legacy... reading that ancient post again made me feel like a pet died :(
I still think that there was too little between 'don't...
Is Memnite really better than Cloud of Faeries? It flies, it pitches, it cycles and carries a Jitte really well.
As far as I can tell we'd rarely want to cast Memnite when we couldn't cast Cloud....
Nothing at first. It's useless for SI itself and far too clunky as the centrepiece of anything that attempts to rival SI's speed. True bombs in combo are slow.
If anything, the banning of Survival...
I'm sad to see Survival gone because it was the centrepiece of many terrible but awesome decks hanging right on the edge of playability. But maybe it was only a question of time since the creature...
@1maarten1: SI draws a lot of cards, lacks filtering and usually relies on an open-ended path to a kill rather than a winning combination. This means any concession compromises speed and stability...
I think you went a little too far. Personally, I'd keep the blue - Thoughtcast draws more artifact cards and Master of Etherium is an even bigger bomb if you got rid of the non-artifact creatures.
As a pure combo deck, I don't believe it is possible to get anything from this concept that is very consistent or resilent. To be viable, it needs to be able to win small. Before the last additions,...
While an equipped Spectral Lynx is nice against many popular decks, it isn't really a good card in itself and I don't see the need. Moms stall Goyfs&friends all day, Grunts shrink them and you have a...
Personally, I love the combination of draw-4s and Glimpse - you can very often draw the entire deck without the need for heavier tools.
Of these, probably Show and Tell... that card is most obviously trying to do something unfair, and under weird situations I could image that it has the potential to warp a metagame where the dominant...
