Re: Decks to Beat? (2020 edition)

I don’t know that it really qualifies as a different deck than the other 4c Oko Pile. Unless Hymn-spam becomes a successful tactic, the UW core will not take the easy way out and spam Counterbalance....

    Re: Death-Nought

Remember that Ashiok can be used targeting self = Veil of Summer will not prevent yard exile. Has text vs cards like Goblin Engineer, NO/GSZ, KotR, Gamble/Crop Rot, Infernal Tutor, Firemind's...

    Re: Hunting Squee

I don‘t think you can really beat Oko with an enchantment [Hunting Grounds] that allows you to cheat a creature they can immediately [+1] on into play. Grave Titan-type cards are fine since you‘re...

    Re: sNOw Painter

Build closer to Opposition with SnakeElfDruid (aka SED, aka Coiling Oracle) if that's what you're going for. This deck has more reliable [durdling] plans for the mana ramp with the printing of Uro....

    Re: sNOw Painter

One more issue: NO cannot grab Grisel. While the Painter workaround for Grisel off NO is cute, this ends poorly. You put NO on the stack and lose the Painter [either to removal or having nothing...

    Re: sNOw Painter

Protecting what? There‘s also a pretty big issue with rushing out snow-basics, sacrificing them, and also relying on Ice-Fang as your removal (count to 3 for deathtouch).

    Re: sNOw Painter

The list is somewhat dubious against Chalice, but new cards have fixed this (green value dudes >1 cmc and Oko +1) enough to where an NO will just beat Chalice - though I’d be wishing out Archon of...

Re: [Deck] Dreadstill - Enter the Fist

Bending over backwards to beat DnT isn‘t a broadly viable strategy in legacy. There‘s no need to play non-engine answers to DnT, given how one-dimensional Cavern/Vial makes a deck. If you really want...

Re: [Deck] Dreadstill - Enter the Fist

@pandaman when it comes to Painter, it's going to depend on what you're trying to counter. Keeping in Pierce is going to keep Karn off the table, but it's not always going to be the best vs their...

    Re: [SCD]Bazaar Trademage

I think you are using Trademage like an overcosted Hogaak in that list? There is this aspect of avoiding yard hate by playing Trademage and Shadow, but I think the end result is a slower Gaak deck...

    Re: [Deck] Trash For Welder

It works dubiously well with Kroxa, losing the beneficial ETB trigger. The more important aspect about Scroll is that unlike all the enablers (and cards like Vial for that matter), it self-corrects...

    Re: [Deck] Trash For Welder

That's not how Mask works. You still need to pay color. All of these enablers get worse with each copy you draw, and that's the kind of variance a Dreadnought deck can't absorb.

Pretty sure they will be just fine with LED purchase. It has a stable price and goes in a number of competitive decks.

Sticky: Poll: Re: All B/R update speculation.

There are positive aspects Breach brought to the format, but no matter how much you liked the deck (or how it existing helped your deck), at the end of the day it's basically the same thing as Oath...

    Re: [SCD]Bazaar Trademage

I think it’s be pretty hard to find a niche for this deck when you directly compare it to the escape-Ox and LED, which has turn 0 capabilities. The card is too slow for Rootwalla, and once you’re...

Re: [Deck] A Cold Day in Hell (Breach Freeze)

Of the 4 ways to play legacy (Fetchlands vs Cavern/Vial vs Sol Land/Chalice vs Loam/Mox, blending acceptable), LED creates diversity. It is played both by Fetchlands and Sol Land and does not create...

And so we restart the clock on “it’s time to ban Oko.” On the plus side they’ve left Veil alone so nobody has to sit through the stupidity of Hymn -> Snap Hymn -> into you lose to Oko [b/c there is...

Yawgmoth’s Will is banned in legacy and restricted in vintage. That it is among one of the most wildly broken effects in magic is an established observation.

You have answered your own question, you can't play whack-a-mole and ban every card that a truly broken one can exploit. One ban >>> 2+ bans

If they banned problem cards first, we'd have seen CB banned instead of SDT, Probe banned before DTT, Goyf banned before 2011, and Fetchlands banned before DRS.

Nah, we need the Breach era to last at least as long as the Dig era; it’s important to remind all the fair decks that spells matter every once in a while.

Watched enough of Phil’s league; the deck did fine against linear tier 2 decks. As expected 3x colors represents build order loss vs Wasteland [you’ll never recast Kroxa, certainly not before being...
