I like Canopy a lot, because sometimes...
I've tried Dryad Militant, and it just never did enough. I honestly liked Judge's Familiar more, in terms of delaying to the midgame. They both suck later on though. You can go the spirit guide route...
It still does well in metagames full of cantrip decks. I love Maverick, built the whole thing in foil and still have it, but I rarely bring it to events because I hate getting blown out by turn 1...
True-Name Nemesis and Council's Judgment (which felt like it was printed explicitly to fix the mistake of TNN) are the two big offenders IMO. Maverick is fundamentally a Mother of Runes deck, and...
The field kinda diversified. Decks that were formerly good match ups got new additions at a faster rate than Maverick, and bad match ups became more common (like Elves). That being said, I think...
The match you're truly giving up is Elves. It is so one-sided it's almost laughable. You might as well concede and go get lunch unless your opponent can't do Craterhoof math.
I've played both at various times, and the important thing is that they don't work together at all. You mulligan entirely too much.
I prefer having a Cradle to tutor for because it's a single...
I actually like the Bird here given that you're running 3 equipment and it flies. Normally I'm a big fan of 1 Hierarch so you can GSZ for exalted to mess with combat math, but flying with a sword is...
Yeah, vs. Miracles I'd much rather have an extra threat. I usually board into things like extra Oozes and Teegs just to increase creature density. Anything that can pick up a sword and swing.
Maybe it's just me being a numbers nerd, but I'm not at all confident that the added win % between say, storm or burn match ups where the 2 life might matter, and SnT match ups where they draw 2 SnT...
IMO, if I turn 1 Thoughtseize and see 2 Show and Tells, I'm not winning that without a Thalia regardless of what I pick. That's just luck of the draw, and I have a hard time evaluating sideboard...
Largely combo, but that's also why I prefer Duress. Under what scenario would you want to hit an Emrakul with a Thoughtseize? It's just going to reshuffle, and even Griselbrand is dead in hand until...
I've recently become a big fan of just running Duress over Thoughtseize. Having never encountered a creature match where I wanted to bring in targeted discard, it's just simpler to hit the spells....
D&T could already play Glowrider at the 3 spot if they really wanted another tax effect.
So what was it you liked better about Top? I'm intrigued.
Courser + Library go together better than peanut butter and chocolate. It feels like cheating.
Well, these days it's a gamble either way. Sneak and Show has been almost totally replaced by Omni-Tell, which will either hard cast Emrakul or a Cunning Wish depending. That match revolves a lot...
Awesome report. Really happy to see Omni-Tell folding so many matches in a row.
Is Omni-Tell that bad for us? I haven't faced it all that much since the newer, leaner Dig Through Time lists became common after Kyoto. Previously, it just wasn't that hard to stick a hate bear and...
I like maverick as a choice right now, provided you're ready to face a lot of Miracles and probably Elves. If you can navigate those matches, you'll have a good event.
Agreed. I don't sweat TNN, I just find a way to race it. You don't see him all that much these days anyway since blue decks just have stronger things they can be doing like derping out Emrakul or...
That's pretty much the best breakdown I think anyone has provided. Thank you TMagpie.
Along those same lines... what creatures *are* we afraid of? More specifically since we're not running discard...
Granting all that for the sake of argument, how does it not also apply to Thoughtseize? If the decks are redundant enough that snagging Show and Tell or Infernal Tutor isn't enough (by which I mean,...
I didn't say it would *work*, just that it's worth testing. :p Writing things off and not revisiting them in low stakes environments is a good way to end up with tunnel vision.
Therapy is a very...
It's worth trying. I've looked at Therapy several times and wondered if it wasn't worth a shot over Thoughtseize. There are so many games where you're really only worried about one specific card.
