Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

There are certainly a few sideboard options. What I'm more interested in is if there's something that is maindeck worthy.

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

The cards Icefang Coatl and Baleful Strix are a problem for RUG, and so I did some thinking about how to beat them.

Obviously, Spell Snare is quite amazing right now and should probably have at...

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

If you feel that Dreadhorde is worth fighting over, you can run 1-2 main deck Force of Negation, as well as 1-2 Flusterstorm. These seem like the best options for not only ensuring you can resolve...

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

I actually think Klothys deserves consideration for a slot in the main 60, I'd certainly run it over the 3rd Oko. The number of decks that utilize the graveyard in Legacy is so great that it's to the...

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

I'm not so sure that RUG is necessarily the best Delver option now. BUG and Grixis Delver become much more attractive options. Baleful Strix, Young Pyromancer, Dark Confidant etc. -- all X/1...

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

Well remember that the sideboard cards are still very relevant (e.g. Pyroblast), and for example against DnT, you really want access to Red to reliably cast your creature and artifact removal spells....

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

The 19th land is either Lonely Sandbar or (more commonly) Fiery Islet, both of which function more like a spell than a land since they're being run for the sake of drawing cards, especially with...

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

Both RUG decks in the top 8 of the latest GP were running 2 copies of Hexdrinker. If ever there were evidence for the card being a worthy inclusion, here it is.

Also in the top 8 list was the...

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

As good as W6 is, too many copies can get flooded. The general rule of thumb for legacy blue decks is:
4 copies if you don’t mind frequently seeing multiples every game
3 copies if you want to...

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

Let’s talk tertiary creature options. Let’s assume that Delver, Goyf, and to some extent 2 copies of TNN are a given.

Dreadhorde Arcanist is really powerful if he gets going, but you also want to...

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

If you were going to run a singleton of one of the following in the main 60, which would you rather choose:
    Sylvan Library
    Narset, Parter of Veils

Library only costing 2 is a very relevant...

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

You'll occasionally run into a heavy-artifact deck, but it's great against any deck that uses artifact mana (Storm -- LED and Lotus Petal) as well as any Stoneblade/equipment and/or Aether Vial deck....

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

Yeah Fog Bank is terrible; perhaps worth considering at :1::u: though is Gilded Drake as it can also be brought in against Reanimator and Emrakul decks. If you wanted a Fog effect, I'd suggest...

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

Yeah, I suppose if you wanted to you could do a 1/1 split. And occasionally you'll be glad to have your Delver flip and very rarely have both cards in the yard to support 6/7 Goyfs. But statistically...

The list I tested, which could be further modified per local meta considerations:

    8 fetch
    3 Volcanic
    3 tropical
    4 Wasteland

    4 Delver
    4 mongoose
    4 goyf

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

I did a fair bit of testing with running 3 copies of Chart a Course in RUG. I actually think the card is fantastic. In the early game you won't be casting it, instead holding up mana for...

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

Eh, let's not get crazy here -- obviously it's a moot point since it's neither of those, but I would *absolutely* play Serpent in Delver decks (and possibly other deck types as well) if it had the...

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

I saw a list doing well that's running 4 copies of Chart a Course, 2/2 split between main and SB. Seems easy enough to enable as a straight-ahead Draw 2 for 2. Has anyone had much experience with...

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

Why play Honden of Infinite Rage when you could instead run Curse of the Pierced Heart?

Edit: oh, I see that you can target creatures with the Honden. That's actually pretty tech, I was thinking...

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

Seems like there may be an uptick in small creature decks that were weak to Miracles (e.g. Elves, Maverick, Stoneforge variants, possibly even stuff such as Zoo, Goblins, Merfolk, etc.). Wouldn't...

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

    J. Alexander's Delver-less RUG list is very easy to port over to BUG. You lose the versatility and power of Lightning Bolt, but in exchange get a new kind of versatility via Abrupt Decay.

    18...

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

I think there are two valid ways to approach playing RUG tempo:

    1) Play a hyper-aggressive list with Delver of Secrets, Nimble Mongoose and probably Tarmogoyf. In addition to your 4 Lightning...

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

I've only tested Jon's list a few times, but so far I really liked it. Hooting Mandrills has a few advantages over Tarmogoyf:
    1. Dodges Fatal Push and Abrupt Decay
    2. Can still deal damage through...

Re: [Deck] Canadian Threshold (aka RUG Delver, Tempo Thresh)

Deathrite enables sequences that are insane tempo, so I disagree with the notion that it's somehow working against the deck's main plan. That's going back to the initial spoiler season when the card...
