Unmask exiles the black card to cast, not discards. Collective Brutality is what you can use to bin a creature, although you can still strip an instant or sorcery.

The key thing to remember here is a spell doesn't fizzle when cast, it can only fizzle on resolution.
Or anything for that matter.
Even with the anti-hate, you're likely bringing in 4 Abrupt Decay, 4 Wear / Tear, or 4 Reverent Silence (or a mix of all of those), and/or Blood Moon as well.

Then you obviously wouldn't cast it. I would never cast the card unless I was able to check the opponent's hand in some way. Even "creatureless" decks may run a small number. Lands can run...
It's extra discard to ensure you can strip out whatever creature they may have in hand. Relying on 2-4 Thoughtseize might not be enough, and Collective Brutality doesn't take creatures.
