    Re: [DTB] Merfolk

Wow, Merfolk back in the DTB huh? It sure has been a while. I guess it makes sense though... Master of the Pearl Trident means you can pretty much ignore Batterskull against blue decks now, Maverick...

    Re: [Deck] Merfolk

Not sure why Jace would be necessary. If you have TM in your opener, you either mulligan if the rest of the hand is weak, or keep it. You have either Brainstorm to fix the hand, or Force of Will to...

    Re: [Deck] Merfolk

Rather than going the Chalice route, has anyone considered running Brainstorm and Temporal Mastery? Temporal Mastery seems amazing in a deck with Vial, and the clock that Merfolk has.

    Re: [DTB] Merfolk

If I'm playing Merfolk's, I really like what Saito did with the deck (black splash). Personally, I'm not a fan of Standstill, since it improves matchups that are already good, and is bad in matchups...

    Re: [DTB] Merfolk

Spell Pierce IS good against Zoo, though. Especially in combination with Wasteland, Spell Pierce is a hard counter against their removal. Kira is great because she requires the opponent to spend two...

I wonder if its worth looking into Brainstorm, if the black splash (with fetches) becomes popular.

    Re: [DTB] Merfolk

Saito's list was great. The maindeck was pretty much streamlined, with the only standout being his manabase. Perish seems like a great answer to Zoo, which can be useful in some other matchups. I'm...

    Re: [DTB] Merfolk

Eh, maybe you're right. I still think Tidal Courier is pretty savage, though. Maybe Force of Will should be left in, instead of Daze, since Tidal Courier can compensate for the card disadvantage. I...

16 pump lords. Islandwalk. Flying. The only control aspect getting cut is FoW. Daze/Cursecatcher are still in the MD. and are still strong without FoW. You still have access to FoW postboard vs combo...

The Sejiri's cost 1U and are 2/1. They only lose the First Strike and Lifelink if their isn't a Plains in play. Meaning, they aren't a dead card if the Tundra gets Wasted.

    Re: [DTB] Merfolk

I'm already running the 16 Merfolk lords. There aren't anymore, otherwise I'd most definitely go for another lord instead.

Mono blue does have a ton of great options, but after the first 28...

    Re: [DTB] Merfolk

I never said U/W was the build of the future. I was suggesting that cutting Force of Wills, and adding Tidal Courier's, seemed like a strong way to go.

However, I don't understand how the white...

    Re: [DTB] Merfolk

Cosi's Trickster has been awful. Smoothing out the curve... meh. Unless you put him into play on turn 1, he's usually just a 1/1. I've never gotten him past 3/3. While 1 mana for a 3/3 is solid,...

    Re: [DTB] Merfolk

I don't think tempo lost is the problem. Both spells actually promote tempo by being "free." Being set back a land drop with Daze is bad if you're relying on lands to get creatures into play, but is...

    Re: [DTB] Merfolk

My list is just experimental. And to be honest, I'm actually playtesting a version without Force of Wills right now. I think making the deck more like Goblins (higher threat density) gives the deck a...

    Re: [DTB] Merfolk

While you continue to try and strengthen a bad matchup, you weaken what was a good matchup. At a certain point, the matchup that used to be good is going to not be so good. Cursecatcher is amazing...

    Re: [DTB] Merfolk

I've been testing a build that runs 16 lords and Tidal Courier. The increase in threat density and more pump effects has made Tidal Courier and attractive option, IMO. Cutting Standstill's for Tidal...

Just for the record, I wasn't making a case for why I think Cold-Eyed Selkie should be run in the maindeck, I was simply elaborating on what matchups Scroll Thief would be good in, and how Selkie is...

    Re: [DTB] Merfolk

The point of playing Merfolk is to stomp your blue (Counterbalance) matchups. Cold-Eyed Selkie does that, and in spades. Additional Islandwalk is in fact good, and the ability to draw multiple cards...

Between Force, Daze, Cursecatcher, Stifle, and Wasteland... I'd say simply apply enough pressure against Storm Combo and you'll be fine. They clearly cannot go off early with that sort of disruption,...

    Re: [DTB] Merfolk

I didn't mean Stifle. I'd run 4 if I played the deck. I was more referring to Port.

But B2B shuts down your Mutavaults, which essentially make your Standstills lame. Port should fit much...
