Thats always the case when you bring someone with vision and influence to a design team that knows echo chamber at best.
I too had a non-winning record in the Grand Prix, which I don't think is reflective of the deck in general, but more to do with my lack of play practice over the last 6 months. As evident from this...
My Promo Foil Dark Maverick deck is finally read to play:

I found the long lost Pirate booty.
Rite of Flames is a better card than Cabal Ritual. Nice work Bryant.
Unfortunately, this isn't true. The GGT dies and goes to its owners graveyard, which does trigger Bridge from Below - but only to make 2/2 zombie tokens; rather than exile itself.
Cut the Maze. There's far too many Wastelands in the metagame to make it effective. It's at best a one turn fog with KotR.
This isn't how the card works, so speculation how it would work is masturbation at best. The rules don't even work in this fictional scenario you're describing, so your post is basically pointless on...
This is correct. Since 6E rules, beginning of step triggers are automatically put on the stack. The cards that generate them have to enter the step with the trigger text. Once all the "beginning of"...
RFCF - "2: Mirage Mirror becomes a copy of target artifact, creature, enchantment, or land until end of turn."
There's no profitable way to interact Mirror with Smokestack.
Good discussion, but this one unfortunately doesn't work. There's no method to copy Smokestack and have it trigger to add Soot counters or sacrifice triggers.
Making good rares with decent artwork has better returns than printing Ms paint doodles on foil cardstock, and WotC knows it. They're simply too frugal to pay for good development of those cards...
THanks for the report and your candid thoughts regarding some of the cards we've discussed on this thread earlier. The point about stable mana hits home: being able to ramp asap with this deck is so...
When i saw the judge call, he had Rabblemaster, and one card in hand, but no goblin tokens in play vs an untapped Griselbrand. Something infers to me that he was not making Goblin tokens that would...
This is looking promising. Thanks for the suggestion.
10 Mountains
4 Ancient Tomb
4 City of Traitors
4 Chrome Mox
4 Simian Spirit Guide
4 Blood Moon
4 Magus of the Moon
4 Chalice of the Void
I'm skipping on Quicksmith Rebel, and instead sticking with Magma Jet. It's not repeatable damae, but its castable early, kills SFM, and fixes awkward draws.
My sideboard as of today:
4 Faerie...
You should always look at the top card when you mulligan. You shouldn't base your future decisions on it. There's clear cut example as to why you should: Vancouver Mulligan / scry.
I board out Chalice, Trinisphere, Koth, and a few Blood Moon for:
Pyrokinesis, Sulfur Elemental, Ratchet Bombs. Basically the stack based control for removal spells. Maindeck Aensnaring Bridge is...
Dragon stompy (with proper Dragons) won the Fire and Dice Legacy event. It had 6 rounds; beating Burn in the Semi's and Grixis Delver in the finals.
I've probably played more matches with Maverick than all but a handful of pilots in europe. Feel free to ready pages 50-150 of this thread if you'd like context.
Not sure I would keep any SFM against storm. Too slow and prone to be snagged by discard. Also, as you keep harping "Mother of Runes fixes that problem". I don't see how Rending Volley is relevant in...
Is this a card that's played in Legacy?
Mother of Runes is not available in every game, nor may be alive in every game. The Swords are useful in that context to provide continuous protection in...
Thats not even true, but you can play the deck however you want. You even mentioned you board out batterskull in your event report. Maverick simply isnt a SFM deck; it's a deck using SFM.
