This is kind of a longer topic than I have the time to get into at the moment, but most people I see tend to default to boarding out Preordain in every matchup, and I think that's insane.
You don't always go for it, but it's a pretty good rule of thumb. Basically what you should be asking yourself is "Am I more likely to win if the game goes longer than I am right now?"
The answer is...
Yeah, Bolt doesn't make any sense to me for these reasons. Being able to go off with a lower storm count seems like a fringe bonus at best, in what world can you get to exactly 6-7 spells on the...
There are two types of hate permanents: ones that just stop you from winning (Leyline of Sanctity), and ones that mess up with progressing your normal plan of cantripping, building up your graveyard,...
I usually board in 2 Decays against UWR. Having a way to fight their disruption that can't get Pyroblasted can be pretty valuable.
It's a lot easier to look at specific examples than to make broad claims about exactly when to use each cantrip.
There are two very good reasons to sideboard lands:
1) There are a lot of powerful lands in legacy that you would want to sideboard, but never want to draw game 1. Karakas is the best example of...
If Miracles wasn't going to have 3+ Pyroblasts postboard this might be a good idea. As is, I can only see this being profitable against Chalice decks, so I think I'd rather just have a Hurkyl's Recall
I can't imagine wanting to board Bob in against any deck with Lightning Bolt. I only ever board it in against other combo decks and Miracles, where it's fine but not great. There are definitely cards...
Regarding the second Island vs Bayou/something else:
I think I got punished twice for this over the course of the tournament, but Bayou seems unacceptably bad to me. I would much rather have a third...
My hand does nothing, and I wanted to incentivize him to not play Young Pyromancer on the following turn since I'm trying to buy as much time as I can to draw out of it.
Write up of my matches
Bob was fine. I added them the morning of the tournament because on modo I played against Tendrils decks around 20% of my matches, and I wanted to gain an advantage in the mirror, and that never came...
1 - bye
2 - bye
3 - Miracles
4 - UWR Stoneblade
5 - BUG Delver - I lost this round
6 - Elves
7 - Lands
8 - UWR Stoneblade
9 - Reanimator
10 - UWR Delver
I wouldn't make any assertions of correctness about card choices, I had very little time to prepare and the metagame on MODO is a weird, weird place. I chose to play the deck because I haven't played...
Well you got half of your wish
Turning on opponents' decays game 1 seems really bad conceptually.
This is a disadvantage. Chant effects make Spell Snares blanks. Grid does not.
