I have to disagree. The players I run into that want to play Modern are mostly new players. Personally, I'm a new player and don't have any of the older staples of Legacy, and I am unwilling to fork...
Back on topic... not sure it it's been mentioned, but:
I'm thinking that Trickbind will see some more play eventually. Also, Thorn of Amethyst versus Storm as it fits into any deck.
I'm still...
Thanks for taking a look at my list. My current list has changed only slightly, and it's posted below. I've been having a lot of success with this deck online and testing against friends. It's...
*Derp Derp*
You're absolutely right. Not sure what I was thinking. I'd like to test the list a bit and see if I have any useful input :P
I'm thinking Traps might be good sideboard options atm.
Why no Greater Gargadon? Seems like you could focus less on building up borderposts and develop your land normally instead. With all that space in the deck cleared you could throw in counterspells,...
Or ultimate with any Tezz planeswalker. Fits nicely into the colors and makes use of infinite turns while also being useful on their own without the combo.
Why is that? To my knowledge neither Splinter Twin, Ascension, or Storm have many Turn 1 plays. I'm not saying it's optimal, or even fits nicely into the deck lists that did well last weekend at the...
I don't like Mental Misstep because it only helps Control vs. Aggro and Combo vs. everything else.
I don't like Visions because unbanning it wont affect Combo decks at all. In fact, it might help...
I agree, and this is why I'm playing Death & Taxes. I will say that I have to yet to come across a Splinter Twin deck in Modern but I know I've got answers for it MB and SB.
The deck IS rather heavy on 3-drops. Aether Vial helps tremendously, but regardless I feel that going heavy on the curve at 3 is a necessary evil. Also, I wouldn't consider this list to be Mono-W...
Spectral Procession and Timely Reinforcements have been suggested as sideboard cards, but never with Windbrisk Heights... interesting. I'm not sure that the card is necessary, and it slows our tempo...
I've been having a lot of success with a different approach. My list is mainboarded to beat Zoo, 12-Post, and any other 3-color deck with a fragile mana base (Jund, RUG-Gifts, Esper Control, Bant)....
So I run Royal Assassin in my Doran deck and have had varying degrees of success with it. Some lucky games it gets haste and pairs up spectacularly with Sheolodred, Sun Titan, and Reya... other games...
Chimeric Mass ain't a bad idea since it dodges all sorcery-speed removal, works great with the Contagion Engine as well.
Leyline of Sanctity has the "may" clause, and the combo deck should (in theory, at least) require more than an extra turn to draw into an answer for it. Ultimately, a starting hand with 2 Leylines is...
I'm in California. I'm down.
Loved the report, great job piloting the deck.
I've been toying around with Manaless Dredge and I'm having a lot of fun with it. I took out Nicholas's Woodfall Primus for a Sphinx of the Lost...
Not to mention Turn 1 Relic...
... however, it is quite the entertaining deck in casual :)
This "You Make the Play" thread needs to be a series of some kind. There are many new players to Legacy, like myself, that can gain tons of insight into basic and complex strategies. I've learn a lot...
Would you rather play a StP that reads as it normally does, or one that is a Sorcery with a clause that says, "...and draw a card?" It's not a horrible call, and it (potentially) replaces a slot in...
The Sundial looks interesting for sure. The Dignitary maybe. With Morgan's experimental build I think that makes both of those cards really interesting (and by the way, I really like his new build)...
It seems as if we're expecting combo to take off in Modern since we've lost Force and Daze. What else do we have to keep combo from dominating the format?
Mental Misstep
Spell Pierce
Spell Snare...
I'll be giving this a shot. Awesome stuff :) Wish I had something more constructive to say...
I, too, love Charles. Having just met him the day of the Mox tourney I was happy to drop $40-something bucks for cards I thought were "neat." I noticed plenty of other players doing the same alllll...
