Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

@Tao: It's been a while since I played anything deadguy-ish competitively. I think my last Bw list played 22 land, with 4 wastes as the manabase. That Bwg list played out very well, oddly enough,...

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

In theory, you're correct about the matchups against Eva and TA, but in practice you're wrong. Eva plays the tempo role very effectively against us, and most of our removal is nullified by sinkhole...

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

Isn't that a problem that board sweepers fix pretty effectively? the basic gameplan would be disrupt in the early game, then sweep the board and the next turn play some fat creature.

    Deadguy in...

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

Oh, I agree, smokestacks would be godawful. The deck doesn't have enough permanants to support them at all.

I'm pretty sure I could be tempted to look at something in the current meta that played...

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

@raharu: I agree with your assesments of the deck, 100%, although I don't remember the last time a version that played out like you're describing top8'd anything meaningful. I guess my question at...

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

Quite honestly, I don't think classic resource denial works now. Destroying lands and hands isn't all that effective since almost every deck in the format runs enough cantrips to use your discard as...

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

The problem with the white version compared to the green one is goyf. Yes, STP and vindicate are amazing, but goyf is just so nuts that it's worth splashing green in a deck like this for him. Any...

Warmth is better if you're just worried about burn. Not spending mana > spending mana.

Re: [DTW] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

Enforcer worries me. He requires 2 off-color mana, which sort of makes him not so much difficult to cast (especially with diamond) but inconsistant. He does seem to be good at combatting stalkers...

Re: [DTW] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

So sinkhole has been underperforming? I can't say I'm not surprised but what can ya do.

I love the discard suite (3 duress, 3 seize, 4 hymn) it seems really very balanced, and is the best one...

Re: [DTW] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

Why don't either of the lists you posted have accel of any sort? The "1" part of your manacurve is empty (effectively only thoughtseize) and honestly, without accel for broken (d. rit) or semi...

Re: [DTW] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

Cutting Hippy makes lotus petal an acceptable replacement for Rit. This could solve some mana woes (color-wise) and help pump our goyfs. Just sayin.

    EDIT: 22 land:
    4 Delta
    3 Mire
    3 Bayu

Re: [DTW] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

So what exactly differentiates this deck from "Legacy Rock" now? Is it dark confident? I don't see much difference now that both started (continued) playing green.

Re: [DTW] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

It's a shame that this deck hit DTW and then everyone decided to stop working with it (I am as guilty as everyone else here, Grim Iggy has been taking all my time).

I'm sure going 3 color has...

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

I'd recommend EE or at least something that can deal with counterbalance. This deck runs such a narrow curve that if you run up against VA thresh and they get going, you're fairly screwed. Blood...

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

Which 0-2 exactly? I looked back like 3 pages.

And I think I'll be playing a deadguy variant at the Winter Wonderland saturday if I go. Although I'm damn tired of finishing 11th at every...

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

Speaking of 14 discard, i bet you're gonna spend a lot of time with a nice hand full of discard and your opponent in topdeck mode. Is that much really necessary or desireable?

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

You're playing 15 lands with no wastes or fetches. And a list that's well under 60 cards.

I was thuroughly underwhelmed by avenger when I played it a while back. Perhaps it's because I like...

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

I honestly can't believe you're cutting hymns. But I guess that's beside the point. My list plays 4 bob, 3 shade, 3 grunt (that doesn't really count for our little example), 3 smallpox, and 4...

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

My first thought would be that someone messed with my deck because I'm playing arena. That being said, I almost never get hands with my build that don't have a good 2cc card to drop off of a rit...

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

Problem is, even with my current discard suite (of 3 duress, 3 seize, and 4 hymn) they're completely dead after like turn 4. Especially without land destruction to keep your opponent from playing...

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

So saying "mostly like Goyf based aggro with a smattering of loam and almost no combo" would be accurate?

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

I still disagree. Especially while goyf is still huge, grunt is still playable and perhaps preferable.
