    Re: [Primer/Deck] Pox

    Has anyone played Pox lately?

I love the synergy between Currency Converter and Liliana of the Veil/Smallpox.

The other big weakness of Pox was lack of lifegain to survive the long attrition...

    Re: [Primer/Deck] Pox

Great result! I like the Vengeful Pharaoh tech with Currency Converter to discard for value. Free 2/2 while you cycle into a relevant draw and kill their attacker. Works well with Lili too.

Null Rod seems important in the meta (8-cast, TES, Echo storm). Sinkhole is not that good and doesn't replace Lili's role. Why not play the 2 Hymn there instead, then keep Null Rod in the SB?

Without the Anvil combo, Chains is textless vs too many decks. What if it used Dark Deal to make both players immediately Hellbent (then just played out of the GY via Loam replacement effect), or...

    Re: [Primer/Deck] Pox

From my understanding that isn't a Pox deck, that's monoblack aggro (Bob, Thoughtseize, Voidwalker, 0 Smallpox, 0 manlands/Saga) with Depths combo thrown in. It looks closer to what we were brewing...

    Re: [Primer/Deck] Pox

Urza's Saga looks good here. Between that and Hive, there's a significant boost to the "manland" strategy giving Pox more ways to end the game.

Saga -> Foundry is a good wincon

    What about Saga...

Arguably Grief makes Dark Ritual Liliana a better play because it helps it resolve and you're down to 1 card in hand on turn 1. You'll probably be empty-handed by turn 2 and Liliana will already be...

I think this card is better in decks that want Unmask anyway (4 copies in Reanimator as a backup threat) or Black Stompy (as a TKS that can do a T1 Thoughtseize impersonation without clashing with...

We've been testing Vengevine brews for months in other threads, and I've played variations of Vengevine decks in Legacy and Modern for years.

I think the argument is not that 3 mana is unplayable in Pox, but that Vengevine is incompatible with the strategy of Pox decks, and that Vengevine decks don't want 3-mana triggers.

Oh wow, I read that as having flying the first 2 times I saw it. Ok it's significantly worse than I thought: just 3/1 that can be 5/3 lategame, vs 2/1 that can have haste and comes back for free

What about a mix of Ghast and this? A 3/1 flyer is a significantly better threat than a 2/1 ground creature that runs into 1/1 tokens and 3/3 elks for days.

    Yeah Lurrus looks strong here.

But it doesn't have Pox or Smallpox, and it does have more creature removal and a lifelink body, so maybe that balances out.

Also look at the meta. How many of those decks pressure life total? A...

Yeah, I find having too many discard effects does nothing when you're losing to the board, which can happen often. More Pox effects seem good. Pox generally destroys land-heavy UW control decks....

    Re: [Primer/Deck] Pox

I will whole-heartedly agree with that. Big Pox is a more skill-intensive card to play. Anyone can chuck a Hymn to Tourach at the opponent, but it's tougher to time and resolve Pox optimally. Often...

If you go all-in on the multiple Rack plan, then your clock is dependent on resolving discard spells every turn to counteract "the mechanism...
