This. The background is as much a part of the image as the foreground, especially on iconic art like the Time Walk/Vault in question.

Pretty sure 99.9% of judges would have no issue with these alters if he ran them by them prior to the tournament starting, and the .1% who does is just being a dick.
The cards' art is still recognizable, I don't know why anyone would not think so. The only thing that would arguably make them illegal for sanctioned play is the faux black-bordering, but I can't...
