I would play blood moon over back to basics. It's similar effect, but an overall much stronger one. Also sudden demise is amazing if tribal and death and taxes are played in your meta.
Military intelligence provides a card draw similar to sygg but you can run multiples. It is at least worth looking at.
Well looks like m15 might be very good for the mer-people. Both military intelligence and void snare seem pretty good. Also, a new tribal goblin was spoiled, so hopefully they throw us a bone too.
I made that post, because the discussion here has shifted to splashing a color, thus there will be enough lands, cause you need to play around 21 of them, aether vials, dazes, and late game...
If we are slashing a color, then we can just use brainstorm. If the new hate bear becomes commonly played, then we can switch it up. I am not opposed to the black splash. I have advocated for black...
There's a big difference between targeted removal like stp and razorfin hunter, and sweepers like sudden demise and perish. Merfolk needs sweepers much more then targeted removal. Sweepers can act as...
Black isn't the right color to slash anymore. It was when tribal decks and zoo were everywhere, but that's not the case anymore. Red is much better: we get sudden Denise for a 1 sided swiper, red...
I always thought the main strength of this deck, wasn't that it was stifle proof or that it didn't feed deathrite, but that it was an aggressive deck that can actually beat combo.
There have been quite an abundance of posts lately, asking how to beat X deck. Almost every reply had been to just avoid them, or get lucky. The easiest way to fix all these terrible match ups, is...
Dread of night and engineered plague are good black spells as well.
That's true, but my post wasn't pointless. Most merfolk mirrors have both players having a vial or two. Most lists also play between 3 and 4 copies of image. It's quite possible that you get stuck in...
I really wouldn't play llawan for the mirror. A Vail set on two plus an image in hand for your opponent would cause a draw.
Copying Master, Lord, or Slivergil are all quite good plays with Image. If you have four Nemesis, then that makes sixteen targets for your deck. I wouldn't play four myself, just because you could...
Repeal would also be a good idea. Repeal is quite good when paired with swan song, if that's your one drop counter of choice. It's pretty decent versus batterskull and delver too.
I have been playing uwb merfolk, or esperfolk for a while. The main deck doesn't have any white or black cards, just the sideboard. I run two tundras and two underground Seas in the main. My...
It nice to be able to tap down two blockers with one card. I think it would make a more aggressive merfolk build, but I feel like it would only run two drops so that it could a abuse hidden strings...
Vapor snag had been very good for me, but I have been thinking about running hidden strings. It does crazy things with Vial and can untap a land and tap down a blocker, then encode on a attacker, hit...
If mom is really a big problem guys, then splash black and play a couple dredge of nights. You also get to play perish too!
I agree with vacrix. The only counter I can think of is that the combination of augur, adept, and image could generate enough card advantage that the protection from chalice wouldn't be needed. This...
The only issue with using a vial build and sideboarding in the chalices, would be that the land count, mainly island count, would need to be higher.
That was my thought process behind using chalice, I also opted for cutting all the 1 mana spells though. I think chalice may be needed right now, unless the spell count increases, which would allows...
Remember guys, that vial isn't the only build at the moment. There's still the chalice build that could just be better at the moment then the vial option. We just need more testing time to see which...
If all that matters is a minor speed bump on turn one or two, then why not just play lotus petal instead of chrome mox?
Right now I've been testing Dark Confidant in the 4 flux slot. I can't tell if he's a perfect fit yet, but so far he seems quite powerful.
