I take out Vials because they are neither a dude, nor an answer to a dude.

    Re: [DTB] Merfolk

I don't run Stifle at all. So, there are three StP's in the MD already - I board 12 cards. Generally, it's 4 Standstill, 4 Aether Vial, 2 Sovereigns, and 2 Daze.

The problem with this logic is that:

    A) TES isn't a popular deck, numbers-wise. and
    B) Zoo is.

I also ran Jitte for a while, and came to the same conclusions Finn and co have. In fact, I'm pretty sure I ranted on it somewhere. My own "anti-zoo/red" package contains:

    4x StP
    4x Path to...

More fuel for the expansive Nightmare Merfolk (maybe) Article.

I'd really like to, if it weren't for the fact that my computer is crashing as we speak. I may get a chance to piece some things together, or I may not. I'll try.

    Re: [DTB] Merfolk

I don't think saying it runs 12 is accurate, either. I've never agreed that there is a 1-1 correlation between a fetchland and a land that taps for mana. They aren't the same thing. This doesn't...

So it only runs 19 mana sources - 6 of which actually tap for blue - in a deck where about half your threats cost :u::u:.

Not to mention that 7 of the mana sources you have (out of a total 13) are...

    Re: [DTB] Merfolk

Why is your decklist 62 cards? And it's basically my list, with more Jittes, which I've dismissed as bad in all the matchups you'd want it to be good in.

Which non-red board sweepers? Explosives? Wrath? Deed? He dies as easily to them as Sovereign does. At the same time, the majority of the decks playing those sweepers are playing Islands, which...

    Re: [DTB] Merfolk

The point I'm making is that people are playing Wake Thrasher instead of Lords.

Every non-Lord beater you play has a net weakening effect on the rest of the creatures you play, when you compare it...

On the wish-cards: I'm just goofing off. We'd see where the deck goes if they ever get printed. Meanwhile, there's bigger fish to fry (pardon the pun).

    Re: [DTB] Merfolk

The second one is actually MORE important than the first! The more this deck can play like Goblins, the better it would get against its worst matchups. I'd actually play a Wake Thrasher if I had a...

    Now, we're talking.

It's still worse than Cursecatcher in a vacuum, and I'm not convinced it would be any better than any of the other guys, but at least this man warrants some testing.

    Sure.

When we arrived at the venue, my board was much more suited for an open metagame:

    1 Swords to Plowshares
    2 Relic of Progenitus
    2 Hibernation
    2 Kira, Great Glass-Spinner
    3 Blue...

I split for first (actually took second) with Uw Merfolk at a 40 player event in Binghamton, NY on Saturday. Here's the list:

@ Duke - I'm curious to find out how the deletion of the green splash, the addition of white, and the streamlining of the deck to run 12 lords doesn't make the cut for you as "development."
