I imagine it's not up to snuff, but this seems like it could work in a spring tide deck:
Wear//Tear, Fire/Ice, Rift Bolt, Dismember and Firey Temper come to mind, but it seems like you'd be better off playing Monastery Mentor most of the time.
I imagine that that was meant rhetorically, but I don't think the concept is actually so bad there: 2 life for +4 net cards and 1 life for +2 net cards are both a better rate than 7 life for 7...
Inspired by the Conspiracy Unraveler thread, I went looking for something that would turn cards in the graveyard into a combo fodder, and turned up Eye of Duskmantle
There's a bit of...
Are you referring to this:
because that doesn't actually say that you can use the unraveller ability with flashback, and - while I'm not a judge - I don't think that you can.
Yeah, I think that that's much more of an issue than potential challenges with reliably getting enough CMC into the graveyard is.
Thanks for the insightful commentary.
Just working through a dubious idea...
Looking through the new set, I noticed that Lamplight Phoenix can combine with Altar of Dementia to mill the whole library while also repeatedly setting off...
I was trying to figure out whether there were decks that would get extra benefit from them or if there was a way to make silly stuff like casting Worldly Tutor with the surveil trigger on the stack...
Do we think that the surveil duals will see any play as fetchable 1-ofs?
The "phoenix with set mechanic" :
can plausibly mill the whole deck in combination with Altar of Dementia(and that readily leads to winning through Bridge from Below.) That said, I'm not sure...
There's also a decent number of beaters like Myr Superion where dodging the cast cost or restrictions could be nice.
It doesn't speed you up, slow down the opponent, or put pressure on them, and there are many better "discard then draw" options for use as enablers. I guess it could be part of a Solitary...
Probably a decent Collected Company hit with anything that has ETB triggers too, and works with a lot of the 'humans' deck like Kitesail Freebooter and Thalia's Lieutenant. Does it work with death...
Without the requirement for disguise, Expose the Culprit could be an alterative way to dodge the dreadnaught's ETB trigger. Though 4 mana and 2 cards is probably below rate for a 12/12 trampler...
I'm having a hard time seeing the value. Can you describe a situation where that card would be good?
Alas, Expose the Culprit only turns creatures with disguise face down, otherwise it would fit in that deck too.
That seems a bit stronger than dispel vs stuff like flusterstorm or cursecatcher effects.
The red version would be something like:
Resolve

Instant
Split Second (As long as this spell is...
Yeah. Dualcaster Mage copies Saw in Half with the copy targeting Dualcaster Mage. (The Dualcaster Mage effect is an etb ability so - at least by default - it's in play and can be targeted while the...
I was expecting that if Saw in half were to be playable, it would be in a combo (i.e. with Dualcaster Mage to make infinite tokens) rather than in a more value oriented approach since - particularly...
Yeah, I've got brain damage where I get stuck on silly things. I do find myself wondering how often the extra :1: in casting cost on Etali is offset by the better triggered ability in comparison to...
It seems like "loses to counterspell" doesn't really matter much after creative technique's been cast as part of the combo since individual copies of creative technique also lose to counterspell. ...
Lands are an easy and well-known way to make chase cards. There are also legitimate 'quality of game play' reasons to limit how easily people can mess with lands. I don't think that WotC has any...
Seems like it might find some niche play as a 1-of in decks with Urza's Saga and Walking Ballista.
What cards do you want to use it with? Legacy is a very mana-constrained format, so there are very few cards that have mana-using abilities in popular use and most of them are effectively single use...
Seems like EDH fodder to me. What's a game plan where it makes sense to pick that over one of the many creatures that win more directly like Griseldad, Craterhoof or Worldspine Wurm?
