Re: [DTB] Team America (Midrange/Control Thread)

I ended 5-3 at the Eternal Extravagaza 6 yesterday. Disappointed, because I seriously felt well-prepared to Top 8, and all of my losses happened in extremely close Game 3 scenarios. First, here's the...

Re: [DTB] Team America (Midrange/Control Thread)

Mt main 60 is the same as previously noted, but the sideboard has been slightly adjusted:

    2 Jace TMS
    1 Garruk Relentless
    2 Thoughtseize
    2 Invasive Surgery
    3 Golgari Charm
    1 Umezawa's Jitte

Re: [DTB] Team America (Midrange/Control Thread)

Hi all, some updates with my BUG Aggro-Control list. I have made a few tweaks and am testing some new SB tech:

    20 Lands (usual configuration: 9 fetch, 4 waste, 4 sea, 2 bayou, 1 trop)
    4 DRS
    4...

Re: [DTB] Team America (Midrange/Control Thread)

Do not side out Umezawa's Jitte against Dredge, as it can single-handedly help you win the game against that deck. Repeatable removal and life-gain is key there.

    Regarding White splash: I don't...

Re: [DTB] Team America (Midrange/Control Thread)

The mana-base has been fine. The deck is mostly geared around reliably casting Hymn on Turn 2, so there's an emphasis on early access to BB. The deck wants to be able to curve out as much as...

Re: [Deck] Team America (Midrange/Control Thread)

Running 4 Fatal Push and cutting Delvers obviously costs you some points against fast combo and Miracles. But both of those archetypes seem to be overall favorable matchups regardless, especially...

Re: [Deck] Team America (Midrange/Control Thread)

Extensive testing and tweaking has me with the following list:

    20 Lands (4 Sea, 2 Bayou, 1 Tropical, 9 Fetch, 4 Waste)
    4 Deathrite Shaman
    3 Tarmogoyf
    3 True-Name Nemesis
    2 Leovold, Emissary...

Re: [Deck] Team America (Midrange/Control Thread)

    I've liked the following:

    4 True-Name Nemesis
    2 Leovold, Emissary of Trest
    1 Gurmage Angler or Tombstalker

Re: [Deck] Team America (Midrange/Control Thread)

I would like to talk about this list, which got 5th place in a 426-player event: http://www.tcdecks.net/deck.php?id=20455&iddeck=156015

    Maindeck:

    1 Jace, Vryn's Prodigy

Re: [Deck] Team America (Midrange/Control Thread)

The argument *isn't* that Daze itself provides inevitability, it's that the combination of Abrupt Decay, Toxic Deluge, and Liliana of the Veil do. Few decks in Legacy can beat this combination of...

Re: [Deck] Team America (Midrange/Control Thread)

I am well aware of the "fine distinctions" between BUG lists, as I've been playing BUG variants pretty much since I got serious about Legacy years and years ago.

My argument is that TA simply...

Re: [DTB] Team America (Midrange/Control Thread)

At that point, why not just drop green and play Esper for Lingering Souls?

I played Shardless BUG this past weekend and was disappointed with the deck, going 2-3. Sometimes you draw fire and feel...

Re: [Deck] Team America (Control Thread)

Okay, so I like where you are taking the deck. I am not sure about the low number of one-drops though. It seems like if you are on the draw and keep a hand without much action, you can very quickly...

Re: [Deck] Team America (Control Thread)

Against Reanimator and Dredge, Ooze is just wayyyy too slow to rely on as your sole source of graveyard hate. And as catmint explained, Goyf is there to beat on RDW and combo decks as a fast and...

Re: [Deck] Team America (Control Thread)

I will start with a list like this and make adjustments to it as the meta settles:

24 Lands (8 fetch, 3 of each basic, 3 factories, 2 wastelands, rest are duals)
[going up to 4 factories might be...

Re: [Deck] Team America (Control Thread)

Mom on the draw isn't as big of an issue since Maverick gets bent over by Pernicious Deed.

Goblins is still a tough matchup, so I think the SB should be geared towards helping against it.

    I...

Re: [Deck] Team America (Control Thread)

Man, I almost want to play 4 copies of abrupt decay. It is for most intents and purposes an instant speed, uncounterable Maelstrom Pulse. I think BUG got a very powerful new tool here.

Re: [Deck] Team America (Control Thread)

Guys, guys, guys... She costs 5 mana. Think about the reasons why BUG is not doing so well, and consider whether a 5-mana win condition actually resolves those issues.

    Before I would start going...

Re: [Deck] Team America (Control Thread)

When you cascade, you don't *have* to cast the revealed card if you don't want to. It's optional. So there's no need to modify the removal suite.

Re: [Deck] Team America (Control Thread)

Re: [Deck] Team America (Control Thread)

The sad fact is that right now, the BUG archetypes are poorly positioned.

    Tempo? RUG does it better.
Midrange? Esper Blade often has a better early, mid, and end game.
    Control? UWx...

Re: [Deck] Team America (Control Thread)

I could see maybe GftT, but obviously I already am running 4 Edicts. I like Demise since it costs just one mana and kills just about everything commonly played in Legacy at the moment.

Re: [Deck] Team America (Control Thread)

    I'm testing the following:

    4 Underground
    4 Tropical
    1 Bayou
    1 Island
    1 Swamp
    8 Fetch
    2 Wasteland
