    Re: [SCD] Conspiracy Theorist

Hazoret's Monument is another looter, but CMC 3 is a lot in legacy and Grinning Ignus/Runaway Steam-kin piles probably aren't much good.

    Re: [SCD] Conspiracy Theorist

Harnfel doesn't draw so you need something like Vega, the Watcher to turn the exiled cards back into cards that can be discarded.

    [SCD] Conspiracy Theorist

This card from strixhaven seems very powerful, but hasn't seen much discussion:

For example, it's very strong with stuff that relies on discard to be balanced like Lion's Eye Diamond or...

    Re: Dragons with Crabs

If you're running UR, Careful Study and maybe Izzet charm ought to be a consideration.

I wonder about sphinx of the chimes to go along with the thrumming stone.

Right, but they get exiled one at a time in the process of resolving the tainted pact, which has me wondering.

    Re: 3 cmc creature comboes

Yeah, I think that's going to be where you end up if playing a couple of Dualcaster Mages is already too much for you.

Lutri -> Lutri -> Volrath's Shapeshifter -> Loyal Retainers (sac for Lutri),...

    Re: 3 cmc creature comboes

The sack is part of the cost, so you get two three drops that stay in play. (And, any number of dualcaster mages you want to bring out before that.)

    Re: 3 cmc creature comboes

I guess you can run dualcasters + clones -> Nantuko Husk + Mogis's Marauder, but that's hardly compelling.

    Re: 3 cmc creature comboes

Edit: Cephalid Breakfast is no good.

Double Combat Celebrant can win if you untap but is pretty weak.

You can break past 2 creatures with Dualcaster Mage, but there doesn't seems to be a way...

Re: Strixhaven (Back to School[s of Magic] this April)

Now that we have a full spoiler, are any of the lessons good enough to be interesting, or are there any particularly compelling learn/lesson pairings?

Looking through the spoiler it seems like...

Re: Strixhaven (Back to School[s of Magic] this April)

That seems like it has 'choice card' syndrome. Are you playing this in the hope that the ability speeds up the clock, or is it suppose to hamper the opponent? I think you want something broad like...

It puts the creatures on the battlefield. So it's more efficient as X gets bigger. For some kinds of creatures, it can also matter that they come into play simultaneously.

    Llanowar Elves,...

It's still feasible to get four of those into the graveyard quickly, but is there a dragon that's worth the effort?

Getting land cards "for free" when you cast spells has lots of synergies. It's not just retrace -there are synergies with stuff like Brainstorm, Faithless Looting, Growth Spiral, and Jeskai...

Re: [SCD] In Search of Greatness

A potential way to prevent the "ratcheting up" is to play it with sacrifice stuff, but that would still be slow (at 1 free spell per pair of turns) and I'm not sure there's a suitable pool of...

Sticky: Re: Obligatory shitty card creation thread

Structuring it with replicate does also mean that it's also more resistant to counters and it's better with stuff like cascade, and heavy discard is still a bit of a fun killer.
