Before Tarmogoyf, Werebear was one of the premier creatures green had to offer. When used properly, it is a 4/4 for . On top of that, it can also be used as a mana source.
But when Tarmogoyf saw print, it seems that everyone started throwing away their Werebears.
Would Werebear still be viable in the format or are they hopeless as long as Goyfs are running around? Possibly as a budget Goyf replacement or are new-frame creatures simply better than Werebears?
Discuss.
Not to be pedantic or anything, but I firmly believe that if Werebear was still any good, there would be a deck that still ran it. It's about as simple as that, in my mind. Mongoose is basically the only threshold creature that still sees play, and that's because he costs one mana and has shroud, which is usually way better than costing two mana and tapping for . Not to mention that graveyard hate is extremely prevalent, making Threshold an increasingly difficult condition to achieve.

Bless your heart, we must consider Blue/White Tempo's strategy and win percentages in an entirely different deck thread. -4eak
For you get Knight of the Reliquary, for you get Wild Nacatl, for you get Qasali Pridemage, for you get Noble Hierarch. I'm not sure Werebear would be played even if Tarmogoyf wasn't there to make the choice obvious.
For you get Deathmark which kills all of them!
