I was housed by the deck, I don't need to read about it!

What are peoples thoughts on White in the deck? Is it really necessary to weaken your manabase for the extra removal? Also is there a reason no one considers running smother?
I'd also be interested to here people's comparisons to UWb landstill.
Are your really weakening your manabase by going UGB vs. UGB + W splash for StP? I mean, does it make you that much less susceptible to nonbasic hate? I think the benefits (StP, possible SB options) outweigh the risk.
You're pretty much not going to win against Lands no matter what you do (unless you build the deck specificially to beat it), so that's irrelevant.
Merfolk and Goblins can both show you Wastelands at inopportune times and fuck you out of one of your removal colors. That said, Zoo usually can't, and Zoo is the aggro deck du jour.
I'm not really sure why people are getting excited over Landstill again. It gets showcased in the tournament coverage like it's BREAKOUT TECH and then it ends up placing in the low teens or twenties. Like, if you try harder to beat Merfolk, you lose points to Zoo, but if you try harder to beat Zoo then you lose points to Merfolk, so you end up not even being able to contain the two aggro decks in the format, let alone a Progenitus with Counterbalance cheerleaders or recurring Wastes and Port lockdown. There are some cards that can manage both (Humility, Moat), but the cards that really get you - burn, Vial, infinite lords - require different solutions that don't cross over very well. StP is solid against Zoo but mediocre against Merfolk, especially versus live Vial. Deed can wipe both decks' boards, but Merfolk could be packing Stifle (and will fight over Deed anyway) and Zoo has burn.
