Argothian Elder + Maze of Ith

I copied and pasted this from http://www.magicdeckvortex.com/COMBOS_INFINITE_mana.htm

"Anyway, the combo. Commence your attack phase, and declare Argothian Elder as an attacker. Tap Maze of Ith, and untap the Elder. Tap the Elder, and untap the Maze and another land you control. Tap that land and the Maze, get one mana and untap the Elder. Tap the Elder, and untap the Maze and that other land. Tap that land and the Maze, get one more mana and untap the Elder. Well, you can continue the rest. Just don't forget that you'll need to use that mana in your attack phase, or you'll get mana burned and die. A nice little Upwelling solves that problem though. (YWN)"

This can't work because you can't declare attackers more than once... right?

Re: Argothian Elder + Maze of Ith - infinite mana?

The combo works. You don't have to declare the Elder as an attacker more than once. After you've done that, it will be an attacking creature until end of combat (except if some effect removes it from combat). Maze of Ith doesn't remove the targeted creature from combat, it will just untap it and prevent all damage from it. So, you can use Maze on Elder, then tap Elder to untap Maze and some other land, then repeat this as many times as you want. Only one thing has changed: the mana now disappears at the end of the step, not the phase (and it won't cause mana burn).
