    [SCD] Grim Monolith

    Grim Monolith

So, Did the card meet its expectations or was it simply over-hyped when it got unbanned?

What deck are currently using Grim Monolith? Can it be utilized to speed up decks that seem to be too slow for the current meta?

Was the $40 worth or was it just a blunder? Would its value steady at $20 or would it still go down?

    Discuss.

Overhyped for sure. Value might drop a little more. EDH maybe a reason why it won't go below ~$10-15. Monolith could also be potentially used in the future for MUD Stax/stompy or Transmute Artifacts.dec. After the errata, Transmute Artifact has a slight chance on being played, if the correct shell is found, then Monolith could be an important piece.

It sucks pretty hard i'm afraid. It need a deck around it to be just slightly better than a lotus petal, that's not exactly the definition of "playable".

    Necro ! lol

    I was dreaming of...

Turn 1 Play Island, tap it then for its alternative cost play Fieldmist Borderpost (U/W) or Mistvein Borderpost (U/B).

Turn 2 Replay Island and play Grim Monolith.

Turn 3 Play Ancient Tomb, City of Traitors or Crystal Vein.
Tap Island, Fieldmist Borderpost and play Transmute Artifact. If it resolves, sacrifice the FieldMist Borderpost (cmc=3), tap Grim Monolith and Ancient Tomb : Search in your library for a 8 cmc artifact like Sphinx of the Steel Wind.

Nowadays even a Turn 3 Batterskull (T1 Island, T2 Island, Grim Monolith) can be cool lol

Or a shitty T2 Transmute Artifact a la Entomb and a Turn 3 (with sol land) Argivian Restoration ! lol

Only decks Grim Monolith is played in that seem to place particularly well are MUD and Hivemind, though neither one is particularly a top tier deck.

I think there is a deck in transmute artifact alongside Grim Monolith, but I need to be test more. Just FYI i hear both those cards are not too bad in Painter's Servant Combo.

Wasn't Di running a Transmute Artifact version of U/R painter that sideboards to MUD?
