Nix is a blue counterspell with a twist: it only counters cards that had no mana paid to cast them. So, why should it be discussed right now?
Well, there are a few cards from the uipcoming New Phyrexia set that can cost no mana to cast: Mental Misstep and Surgical Extraction. One of these is a direct foil to Nix, and the other is an Extract effect. So, what is the potential for Nix to become a sideboard card in, say, a Combo-heavy meta (Belcher, ANT et al)? What about a midrange meta?
Thoughts are always appreciated.

the tag is "cards", not "card"
but I don't think Nix will see play, as everyone is saying; the best way to stop Mental Misstep, is with Mental Misstep. People don't use it to stop FoW, they're not going to start now. At least that's my opinion.
The card is clearly terrible and unplayable because it gets countered by the 4 Mental Missteps every deck will run.
Does paying 2 life for Mental Misstep count as "spending mana"? Intuitively, one would think no, but Phyrexian mana costs haven't been defined yet in the comprehensive rules as far as I know.
I think it's less likely that the format will devolve into a stew of niche counter-on-nich counter action than people will just play more varied threats.

The card is certainly very interesting. A list of cards it counters:
Force of Will
Mental misstep (conditionally and yes people will pay mana for this card sometimes)
Lion's Eye Diamond (big plus to me; it's almost the same as spell snaring infernal tutor since LED is busted)
Moxen
Lotus Petal
Daze J/K
Land Grant
Tallmen
Misdirection
Unmask
Any pitch card
Although the card might be too narrow; it hasn't seen that much play and spell pierce is almost always the same card if not better because it has applications against vial, CB, top, brainstorm, natural order, etc. etc.

On srz note: I think Dredge was discussing this card in their sideboards at one point (against FoW and Crypt etc)
Decks that I care about:
Steel Stompy
UWx Landstill
Dreadstalker
DDFT (10% practice)

Depending on how Phyrexian mana ends up working in the Comp. Rules, and further depending on how much the meta shifts to accommodate all the stuff that may in fact potentially be free to cast, Nix could be at least as playable as Spell Snare.
In the first game; then people just start playing around it by actually paying mana for the Phyrexian spells in their deck. Whoooops.
I didn't know Nix was a card... O.o
Please tell me this thread is a joke. Nix is fucking terrible. If you can't deduce why... Scratch and sniffs work 10 times better at the bottom of a pool.

Reading this thread makes me wanna kill myself. This card will never be good not even in Ichorid or against ANT/Belcher or anything. This is probably the worst counter ever, worse than Memory Lapse and Cancel. There's also Engineered Explosives and Chalices if you want to answer 0cc permanents all day.
First there was [SCD]Memory Jar, [SCD]Windfall, now this. There is only so much I can bear, when will this stop.
But Nix fights Pitch World like no one's business!
I'm not being serious. I figured I should add that.
Nix is a really bad card. Not much else to say, tbh its mana cost should be free and require a blue card to be revealed from hand or something. Would you actually use SB space for this worthless thing?
I will make use of every tool that fate presents.
OMFG Nix is teh top secret tech!
Just bought out Starcity's entire stock.
I'll be laughing all the way to the bank, bitches! HAHAHAHA!!
