Whats with the increase in price of Imperial Seal?

I noticed while I was at GP San Diego that vendors where offering nearly $500 credit for this card. Im wondering if anyone can explain the price increase, I was under the impression that this was a $100/150 card. Im not in the market for one, but I find it interesting that there is such a large swing in the price.

This card was 100/150... like last Summer. I remember it being roughly 200$ around January.

While I'm not certain on its exact cause, I believe the price bump is the explosion of interest in Commander/EDH over the last 6 months, in addition to its increase in scarcity, and the prevalence of its use in Vintage. All EDH/Commander staples and playable cards have jumped in price, especially the more rare incarnations. Xiahou Dun, the One-Eyed was roughly 30$-40$ more than a year and a half ago. Now it commands 120$-ish for a Japanese/Chinese copy (the more printed version) and upwards to $200 for the English copy (the less printed version).

    You're way off.

This card has been at least 350 for a long time; the last time I wanted to get one (for real) it was $250 and I thought it was overpriced (this was Jan 2010). It's been slowly creeping up to about 500 for the last little while.

    a) They're super hard to find, especially English.

    b) Everyone wants them for Vintage or EDH, but mostly EDH. It's a worse Vamp tutor, but a tutor nonetheless.

    c) No one wants to part with them.

    Therefore, 500+ dollars.

The sudden increase of EDH this year boosted/boosts the price of the Seal

Asian ones were as low as $150 maybe a year and a half or two years ago. English have been $300+ for a few years now. Recently prices started climbing again, and English is now $600-700 and Asian is I think $400-500 or so.
