    Re: [Deck] BUG "Shardless" Control

SO, I've been waiting for this list to be posted, since I heard it had won one of CK's 1k:

    2 Bayou
    1 Forest
    4 Misty Rainforest
    4 Polluted Delta
    1 Swamp
    2 Tropical Island
    3 Underground Sea
    4 Verdant Catacombs

    2 Baleful Strix
    1 Leovold, Emissary of Trest
    3 Noble Hierarch
    4 Shardless Agent
    4 Tarmogoyf

    3 Abrupt Decay
    3 Ancestral Vision
    2 Assassin's Trophy
    4 Brainstorm
    3 Force of Will
    3 Hymn to Tourach
    2 Thoughtseize
    1 Toxic Deluge

    2 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
    1 Liliana of the Veil
    1 Umezawa's Jitte

    SIDEBOARD
    1 Collective Brutality
    2 Diabolic Edict
    1 Fatal Push
    1 Hymn to Tourach
    1 Liliana, the Last Hope
    4 Nihil Spellbomb
    1 Scavenging Ooze
    2 Swan Song
    1 Thoughtseize
    1 Toxic Deluge

I don't necessarily agree with all the choices, but I think it shows that at the very least, this deck is still OK without Deathrite, although certainly not as good. Assassin's Trophy certainly helps, since it would rarely be totally dead off an Agent cascade. I think I'd personally run all the Thoughtseize in the board, moving the Ooze to the main at least.

Weird choices indeed. I kinda prefer the 3rd place list of this event.

Wasteland > Noble Hierarch and if there's a deck in which I want to see Assassin's Trophy be played, that is surely Shardless.

Yeah, I like the general look of that one better:

    Creatures (15)
    2 Leovold, Emissary of Trest
    4 Tarmogoyf
    4 Shardless Agent
    4 Baleful Strix
    1 Tombstalker

    Instants (13)
    4 Force of Will
    3 Assassin’s Trophy
    2 Fatal Push
    4 Brainstorm

    Sorcery (7)
    4 Hymn to Tourach
    3 Ancestral Vision

    Planeswalkers (3)
    2 Liliana of the Veil
    1 Jace, the Mind Sculptor

    Lands (22)
    1 Swamp
    1 Forest
    1 Island
    3 Underground Sea
    2 Bayou
    1 Tropical Island
    1 Creeping Tar Pit
    3 Wasteland
    1 Verdant Catacombs
    4 Misty Rainforest
    4 Polluted Delta

    Sideboard (15)
    1 Grafdigger’s Cage
    1 Vendilion Clique
    1 Compost
    1 Sylvan Library
    2 Diabolic Edict
    2 Flusterstorm
    2 Golgari Charm
    2 Surgical Extraction
    1 Toxic Deluge
    2 Thoughtseize

22 Lands, since no mana creatures. Full set of Hymns, no other discard main. I'm not sure about no Decay in the 75 though.

I'd probably consider -1 Leo, -1 Goyf and possibly +2 TNN but I'm not sure that is good. Also, in watching the CK stream where the other list won, I think Liliana tLH does has some nice synergy here, because you can -2, get back an Agent and cascade again. Then again, the -2 edict of the other is also good. I'm not sure really, just something to consider, because Trophy does cover you somewhat versus un-Pushable, un-Decayable creatures that aren't True-Name.

    Re: [Deck] BUG "Shardless" Control

Put up a respectable finish at Gaming For Gains 7 yesterday with a version of Shardless. Since Assassin's Trophy released I really wanted to play BUG again (I stopped after DRS was banned after playing BUG midrange for a while), and one week at my shop we were reminiscing about NO RUG and NO Bant from Legacy's past, so I endeavored to try a BUG shell with Natural Order and a variation of Shardless felt right. I've played it for a few weeks locally, mostly to figure out the sideboard, but it's just fun playing some of my favorite cards again. The only really odd choice is Birds of Paradise over Noble Hierarch. It's such a terrible draw, but my goal was to better ensure being able to go turn one Birds, turn 2 wasteland + Hymn (which in the end the deck leaned more on Thoughtseize, anyway). Honestly I'll probably swap over, but it has made for some funny looks going T1 Birds in Legacy.

    21 LANDS
    1 Island
    1 Forest
    1 Swamp

    2 Bayou
    2 Tropical Island
    2 Underground Sea

    4 Misty Rainforest
    1 Polluted Delta
    4 Verdant Catacombs

    2 Wasteland
    1 Dryad Arbor

    15 CREATURES
    4 Birds of Paradise
    3 Shardless Agent
    2 Leovold, Emissary of Trest
    2 Tarmogoyf
    2 True-Name Nemesis
    1 Progenitus
    1 Scavenging Ooze

    25 INSTANTS and SORC.

    4 Brainstorm
    4 Force of Will
    3 Ancestral Visions
    3 Thoughtseize
    2 Hymn to Tourach
    1 Abrupt Decay
    2 Assassin's Trophy
    2 Natural Order
    2 Fatal Push
    1 Green-Suns Zenith

    SIDEBOARD

    2 Liliana of the Veil
    1 Dread of Night
    1 Engineered Plague
    1 Maelstrom Pulse
    1 Toxic Deluge
    2 Vendilion Clique
    1 Liliana, the Last Hope
    1 Diabolic Edict
    1 Flusterstorm
    3 Surgical Extraction
    1 Ruric Thar, the Unbowed

    Round 1: Eldrazi (2-1)
    Round 2: Goblins (2-1)
    Round 3: Storm (1-2)
    Round 4: Enchantress (2-0)
    Round 5: Reanimator (2-1)
    Round 6: Burn (0-2)
    Round 7: 12 Post (2-0) (Rock Lee's current insanity)

Ended up at 5-2 with mediocre breakers to get 13th (85 in the event). My two losses both made top 8, which I was glad to see. Some of my favorite plays: game 2 vs reanimator, their turn 3 they Show & Tell in Griselbrand and I put in Progenitus after mulling hard, no way I'd win the game otherwise. The game I won vs Storm I GSZ into Leovold keeping up a Sea just in case to draw into a Flusterstorm, which I felt proud of (since it felt odd not attacking with the Arbor in play). Game 3 vs Eldrazi I Clique early and see an All is Dust, and later NO into Progenitus and then play a TNN right into their 7 mana (topdecked second TNN after dropping to 1 for the win, but I couldn't help but laugh with how dumb that was on my end). I don't know how good the deck is, but boy it is fun.

    Re: [Deck] BUG "Shardless" Control

WotC giveth and WotC taketh away (see Trophy, see DRS).

I had some pretty decent results locally and was wondering if you guys are scared like me regarding Kolaghan's Command. Being able to kill at instant speed both Shardless Agent and Baleful Strix seems a reason to leave the deck at home.
On the other hand, a playset of Ancestral Vision is tempting and once you resolved/cascaded into two of them, you should be pretty ahead in the game.

Therefore, my idea of Shardless 2019:

    4 Baleful Strix
    4 Tarmogoyf
    4 Shardless Agent
    2 Leovold, Emissary of Trest

    4 Ancestral Vision
    4 Brainstorm
    1 Abrupt Decay
    3 Assassin's Trophy
    4 Hymn to Tourach
1 Umezawa's Jitte (not sure about it yet, Bitterblossom might be fine in the slot)
    1 Liliana of the Veil
    2 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
    1 Toxic Deluge
    4 Force of Will

    2 Bayou
    1 Forest
    1 Island
    2 Misty Rainforest
    4 Polluted Delta
    1 Swamp
    2 Tropical Island
    3 Underground Sea
    3 Verdant Catacombs
    2 Wasteland

    SB
    1 Nihil Spellbomb
    2 Pithing Needle
    2 Diabolic Edict
    1 Golgari Charm
    1 Sylvan Library
    1 Liliana, the Last Hope
2 Pulse of Murasa (yes, Burn and such are a nightmare)
    4 Leyline of the Void
    1 Mindbreak Trap

    Feedbacks welcome as usual.

    Re: [Deck] BUG "Shardless" Control

    Hi!

I think too that the deck is still playable! If you are afraid of command, you need to decrease the targets that can hit!
For example I replaced a strix with a tasigur, and I play the split between the two Liliana main deck (with the second last hope in sideboard).
About pulse of murasa, maybe you can move the jitte in side with the second copy of it, because can do game also against elf and death and taxes.
The meta is slow down for all after the departure of shaman, but there are still some fast delver deck that we soffer, so in my side I play both 2 fatal push and 2 Diabolic Edict.
It seem that the deck is not remeber, and people before to play it, play other decks, but this does not mean that is not good anymore, against miracle and eldrazi that are tier 1 we can have very good match up!

I miss this deck and probably going to sleeve it up again see if I can have any success with it. How do you feel about crashing footfalls? Seems pretty decent to cascade into 2 4/4's with Trample.

    Re: [Deck] BUG "Shardless" Control

I've always enjoyed playing this deck back in the DRS days and decided to give it a shot with some new cards from recent sets. I played the following list in an MTGO league and ended up going 4-1, defeating Grixis Control, Storm, 2x RUG Delver and losing handily to the nut Reanimator draw twice. Overall the deck felt pretty good and I'll continue to work on this in the coming weeks:

    4 Baleful Strix
    4 Shardless Agent
    2 Leovold, Emissary of Trest
    2 Tarmogoyf

    2 Liliana of the Veil
    1 Liliana, the Last Hope
    1 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
    1 Narset, Parter of Veils

    4 Brainstorm
    2 Ancestral Vision
    4 Crashing Footfalls
    4 Hymn to Tourach
    3 Force of Will
    1 Abrupt Decay
    2 Assassin's Trophy
    1 Sylvan Library

    2 Bayou
    1 Creeping Tar Pit
    1 Forest
    1 Island
    3 Misty Rainforest
    3 Polluted Delta
    1 Swamp
    1 Tropical Island
    3 Verdant Catacombs
    3 Underground Sea
    3 Wasteland

    SB
    2 Flusterstorm
    3 Surgical Extraction
    3 Thoughtseize
    1 Bitterblossom
    1 Golgari Charm
    1 Null Rod
    2 Ashiok, Dream Render
    1 Toxic Deluge
    1 Force of Will

Has anyone been having any luck with this deck?

I have a list I'm working on the has Oko in it which has been doing pretty well.

My losses has mostly been against combo decks. I guess that's always been an issue for this deck.

    Any thoughts on a sideboard?

I made a list with a couple Okos in it that I had success with on xmage.

Played Shardless at my weekly last night and didn’t do too hot. But I don’t have Oko in paper.

What does your list look like?
