That art seems like it would be more fitting on something that costs 4GG

Yeah! I mean, looking at it you'd expect that thing to be something like a 5/6, not a two-drop at all.

That was my exact thoughts on the art. While it IS some nice art, it doesn't seem appropriate to the card.

Good news: People can now stop thinking up shitty reasons not to play Goyf in creature decks.

I think the old art and frame are better. Goyf was always a monster sized creature.

The new art shows goyf at its biggest, 8/9 is no small thing. Original art also shows goyf palming a man in its hand. Most things 5/5 and over are really, really big.

Which brings me to KotR, which can surpass that, but that can't be depicted as monstrous size since it is combat prowess and innate abilities on a human. Flavor wise, They are an ancient relic hunting order led by Rafiq, Activated ability of searching for lands is very well designed and executed. Such a great card.

    Re: Modern Masters

The new art for Goyf reminds me of Fruitcake Elemental

But yes, I like this. I don't play modern much though I am still intrigued by the mystery of it. It does help with a lot of Legacy stuff (Goyf, first generation Sword of X/Y, Bob, Vial to name a few things)

Not sure if they will reprint Broken Jace though they did imply that they will reprint cards that might be considered safe (and will not reprint cards that are in consideration of getting banned)
I am convinced that WotC is "dumbing" the game because of all the stupid posts they come across on MTG-related forums

    Re: Modern Masters

So it's unlikely that they reprint The Walletscuplor.

What except Goofy, Thoughtseize, Bob and Clique remain as money cards that really profit from a reprint (availability-wise)?

Important is the following: "Developed with draft in mind by Lead Developer Erik Lauer. You can draft "Storm vs. Faeries vs. Dredge"!"

So we can expect Narcomoeba, Bridge from Below in modern frame.

English only huh? $7 a pack with a Yu Ghi Oh insert? Into the fire with all of it.

Bob having a recent judge promo makes it unlikely to be in the set.

That depends on how poor you are. Some people find $10 KotR's unattainable. I would say a full helping of Zendikar fetch lands would be helpful, if they could get the price down to ~ $5-6.00 ... but I think the demand (for legacy, modern, commander) is pretty high on that stuff.

Am I the only one who prefers the new art? I already have an Asian playset of goyfs, but I'm going to dump those on the market as soon as I have four of the new ones. That art is sweet.

Yes apparently it's meant to be drafted, so I would say it's not extremely limited.

    Re: Modern Masters

Wizards know this is a cash cow with modern format.

they will reprint the chase cards 1-2 at a time.

Why would they include in a set, thoughtseize, mutavault, goyf, clique, dark confidant, etc.

they know they can always make a new set called "modern masters 2"

People knowing goyf is in the set will probably buy it for that fact alone.

This. Every decision WotC makes, and will continue to make from now until forever, is driven by profit margins. This is no different than how any other corporation operates (with non-profit organizations and government agencies being the exception).

It does look better, even though it's a pretty average picture. To look better than the original Goyf all they'd have to do was spread a small amount of shit across a standard card frame... the original Goyf art is one of my all-time least favorite pieces of MtG art. You can't even tell what's what in the picture, it looks like garbage. Future Sight's frame design was also very poor looking, so it'll be an improvement on that front as well.

    Re: Modern Masters

This is so disappointing. Not the set, the set is awesome and will probably the most fun booster box to ever open (or draft, though I can see drafting being painful because of having to pass amazing cards). The Goyf art is what is disappointing. All this time playing with the garbage FS artwork, hoping for a reprint with some sweet art, only to get the most generic looking green monster that is roaring at a deer? Even has the same duneworm-mouth that Wizards loves on green monsters, and looks absolutely ridiculous for a 2 mana vanilla beater who is most of the time a 3/4.

I mean we were gonna get one attempt at some real Goyf art, and this kinda blows it

Apart from that, kudos for an amazing set idea Wizards, I'm just nitpicking.

I don't know what you guys are all talking about. I'm going to miss old tarmogoyf's monster, man-eating vagina face. This new piece of monster art is rather generic. That old art represented something truly, conceptually scary.

People seem to forget that Tarmogoyf is a Lhurgoyf--in particular, the most unfuckwithable one next to a properly setup Terravore. They're generic looking creatures. Terravore is a fucking rhino dinosaur thing made of soil. Every single one of them looks generic. Tarmogoyf is aptly the scariest looking one that seems to be encompassing everything, it's tearing up the earth and eating what's in front of it, it's flavor text is even applicable. For Tarmogoyf to look anything but a generic lhurgoyf looking creature would make no sense.

It should be visually identifiable as a lhurgoyf, the old art wasn't a visually identifiable anything--it barely even took a shape--and this is a far more appropriate art and one I enjoy greatly.
