    GR Beats: circa 2013

Not sure if this belongs here, as goyfsligh was a thing before zoo; I just couldn't find the goyfsligh thread.

I was inspired by a GR aggro list I saw that did well in a modern event:

    4 Arid Mesa
    4 Copperline Gorge
    1 Forest
    4 Misty Rainforest
    2 Mountain
    4 Stomping Ground
    4 Burning-Tree Emissary
    4 Experiment One
    4 Flinthoof Boar
    4 Ghor-Clan Rampager
    4 Goblin Guide
    2 Grim Lavamancer
    4 Kird Ape
    4 Stormblood Berserker
    3 Dismember
    4 Lightning Bolt
    4 Rancor

Edit: I think the combination of Flinthoof Boar+Burning Tree Emissary+Experiment One+Ghor Clan Rampager has the potential to revamp the old pre-zoo GR Beats deck that I loved so much.

With a couple of changes, it could be made to compete in legacy:

    Lands:
    4 Arid Mesa
    4 Taiga
    3 Forest
    4 Wooded Foothills
    4 Mountain

    Creatures:
    4 Burning-Tree Emissary
    4 Experiment One
    4 Flinthoof Boar
    3 Ghor-Clan Rampager
    4 Goblin Guide
    2 Grim Lavamancer
    4 Kird Ape
    4 Tarmogoyf

    Burn:
    4 Chain Lightning
    4 Lightning Bolt

    Pump:
    4 Rancor

    Potential SB:
    3 Ancient Grudge
    3 Blood Moon
    4 Pyrostatic Pillar
    3 Pyroblast
    2 Umezawa's Hitte

Sure, the deck has the typical problems of any aggro deck in legacy

Why limit yourself to only 2 colors and eschew playing with the best 1-drop 3/3?
Wild Nacatl is definitely a good reason to splash white, considering there are few to little constraints in splashing real dual lands.

IMO the list looks like an inferior version of Zoo with too many basics.

If the goal is to play GoyfSligh, then there needs to be more burn included. Namely, Price of Progress looking at how few non-basics you're running.

    Hey Jacob,

Yeah I was a little worried about that, and whether it would even be worth posting. I thought that the burning tree emissaries added a "Affinity/Frogmite" aspect to the deck. Experiment would be swinging for 2 some of the time though, and I am thinking maybe the bloodthirst guy from the modern list might have been included over goyf for that reason.

I guess I really mostly just wanted to believe that gatecrash could do something for RGx aggro, and this could be a wishful thinking.dec.

    Nice stream last night btw.
