What are the best 1 mana spells that represent their color the most?
ie IMO:
Black: Cabal Therapy
Blue: Brainstorm
Red: Lightning Bolt
White: Swords to Plowshares
Green: ??

Green Sun's Zenith
Noble Hierarch is the most traditionally Green spell. Decent card that's better in every strategy except the ones Green enjoys best, worse comes to worst it gets sacrificed to Natural Order to put something multi-colored and game-ending into play.
White: swords to plowshares
Blue brainstorm
Green deathrite shaman
Red bolt
But black has alot on 1 mana tbh, deathrite shaman thoughtseize and dark ritual.
I've always had a soft spot for old Giant Growth. Oh, Giant Growth, I really miss that big rat.
The seven cardinal sins of Legacy:
1. Discuss the unbanning ofLand TaxEarthcraft.
2. Argue that banning Force of Will would make the format healthier.
3. Play Brainstorm without Fetchlands.
4. Stifle Standstill.
5. Think that Gaea's Blessing will make you Solidarity-proof.
6. Pass priority after playing Infernal Tutor.
7. Fail to playtest against Nourishing Lich (coZ iT wIlL gEt U!).
I don't really see GSZ as Green per se... Giant Growth I can agree to, though.

What ever happened to Berserk?
...and wouldn't black be Dark Ritual the fuel for combo decks from the beginning of time? Followed by a healthy nod to Thoughtseize?
Edit: Mirri's Guile is a lot of card for one mana.
Black: Thoughtseize / Dark Ritual
Blue: Brainstorm
Red: Lightning Bolt
Green: Green Sun's Zenith (there are no other relevant CMC1 Spells in Green, which get played in more than one archetype)
White: Swords to Plowshares
I see it like this: People playing the color will most likely be playing the following spell (regardless of archetype): XXX
I would personally say
White: Swords to Plowshares
Blue: Brainstorm
Black: Thoughtseize
Red: Lightning Bolt
Green: Green Sun's Zenith
Thoughtseize sees more play in more decks than Dark Ritual which is more iconic, just not as widely played.
Green Sun's Zenith is in most decks with green if it's getting Dryad Arbor, Scavenging Ooze, KotR, Thrun, doesn't matter, sees more play and it's only green unlike Deathrite Shaman, hence why it beat the Shaman.
The problem with saying Green's ubiquitous one-drop is Green Sun's Zenith, though, is that it only works with Green creatures. Presumably, one would not 'splash' for GSZ; unlike spells such as Brainstorm or Thoughtseize, it is not as commonly applicable.
I was being facetious when I said Noble Hierarch - but if I could only choose one Green spell to go into my deck, and if I had to make the false choice between Zenith and Hierarch I would always choose Hierarch.
To this end, I am not positive that a Green spell exists that is on par with StP/Bolt/Brainstorm/(Thoughtseize or Dark Ritual). Like, I doubt someone would ever look at a Jund list and go "Hmm, needs more Hierarch."
There's no love for Nimble Mongoose I guess... even tho he's probably the most used green card over Legacy history...
If you fail to explain the reason behind your choice, technically, it's the wrong choice.
Zerk Thread -- Really, fun deck! ^^
Cool statement
Green Suns Zenith which costs XGreen to search out Green creatures is not green"per se"
Altough I think GSZ would be the best fit for this role there is something missing.
I would also not consider a creature for a "cycle" with swords, thoughtseize, brainstorm and bolt.
Currently playing: Elves
Wild nacatl was a strong 1 mana green dropp for a very long time. At least until delver the flying wild nacatl.
Right, but it's not nearly as universally applicable as something like Swords to Plowshares, Brainstorm or even Lightning Bolt. Obviously would be terrible in a Green deck with no Plains/Mountains to + the power. All the best Green cards seem to have a huge number of dependencies, or are hybrid.
you asked which cards represent their color best and its simple. There was a set called alpha and each color got its 1 CMC card that 3 of something.
Black: dark ritual (raw power, speed)
Blue: ancestral recall (card draw)
Red: Lightning Bolt (direct damage)
White: healing salve (protection, life gain, survival)
Green: giant growth (combat tricks, big creatures, brute strength)
these are not the BEST cards not the most played. HOWEVER, these cards and mechanics are what WOTC built the colors on.
If you want the most played cards of each color
Black: thought seize
Blue: brainstorm
Red: Lightning Bolt
White: Swords to plowshares
Green: Noble hiearch (although birds of paradise is close second...there is a reason its been reprinted so many times)
Play 4 Card Blind!
Currently Playing
Legacy: Dark Depths
EDH: 5-Color Hermit Druid
Currently Brewing: [Deck] Sadistic Sacrament / Chalice NO Eldrazi
why cards are so expensive...hoarders
1st: Wild Nacatl (I'm ashamed with all of you)
2nd: Deathrite Shaman
3rd: Noble Hierarch
Aka, Can't play green without duals :)
