    Warrior Elves

    Hi!

    I've been testing this elves deck for Modern...

    //Lands (18)
    16 Forest
    2 Pendelhaven

    //Creatures (34)
    4 Llanowar Elves
    4 Elvish Mystic
    4 Nettle Sentinel
    4 Joraga Warcaller
    4 Elvish Visionary
    4 Wren's Run Vanquisher
    4 Bramblewood Paragon
    4 Elvish Archdruid
    2 Elvish Champion

    //Sorceries (4)
    4 Lead the Stampede

    //Instant (2)
    2 Chord of Calling

    //Artifacts (2)
    2 Coat of Arms

    I need help to improve the deck because I've some doubts...
    - It's actually Chord of Calling useful in this deck?
    - I replaced Imperious Perfect by Coat of Arms. I think in a aggro deck, the second one is quite better. However, I was thinking about to include Bow of Nylea... his static ability seems good. What do you think about this point?

    Thanks. Regards.

    Yes. Usually, I win at fifth or sixth turn.

    WotC is tuning the format so that combo decks "win" on turn four. Since you're not killing as fast as a combo deck and you don't have any disruption, you should make your deck able to utterly smash everything else. How well do you do against mid-range stuff like Jund?

    Paragon only seems better than Elvish Champion when you're not opening with a mana dork on turn 1, which I would imagine happens rarely. Maybe drop to two of him and up to four Champions?

    Chord of Calling seems like a worse Genesis Wave most of the time, why not just run that as a mana dump?

    While I'm in no position to argue the merits of Imperious Prefect vs. Coat of Arms in a straight aggro deck, I will say that Prefect gives you the option of stalling against opponents that have blunted your initial assault, as well as pooping out a threat a turn to set up alpha strikes in ground stalls. Seems worthwhile. A Coat of Arms that leaves all your mana dorks untapped to attack that turn seems great, but usually (I would imagine) you're using them to cast it?

    I am on the ditch Coat of Arms bandwagon... The Prefect is simply a better option given its point on the curve and the potential duder. Also I do not think Chord is worth it in a deck with no utility critters really.

    I'm surprised you are not running Heritage Druid simply to accelerate out your threats at a faster rate. While it's no Warrior, it still gains Elf synergies and is patently absurd when you have 2 Nettle Sentinels out.

    Talara's Battalion? Just a thought.

    Summoner's Pact into Regal Force/Craterhoof Behemoth with the Heritage Druid/Nettle Sentinels mana engine as Koby suggested is probably more explosive.

    I've seen that in the MTGO Tournament Practice Room a decent amount of time and it consistently kills on turn 4. Pretty cold to Pyroclasm but that's the price you pay for playing elves.

    You could even play the new Garruk to reboot from a sweeper. Getting a free Lead the Stampede each turn or slamming a Behemoth for free does sound pretty appealing.

    Here is my list I came up with:

    CREATURES (31):
    4x--Elvish Archdruid
    4x--Elvish Mystic
    4x--Elvish Visionary
    2x--Ezuri, Renegade Leader
    3x--Fauna Shaman
    4x--Heritage Druid
    4x--Llanowar Elves
    4x--Nettle Sentinel
    2x--Cratorhoof Behemoth

    SPELLS (10):
    4x--Beck//Call
    4x--Summoner's Pact
    2x--Lead the Stampede

    LANDS (19):
    4x--Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx **Similar the Gaea's Cradle in Legacy [play 4 with new legend rule]
    4x--Breedpool
    2x--Flooded Grove
    2x--Hinterland Harbor
    7x--Forest

    Mana a little wonky. I feel like Nykthos makes this a deck. Blue splash only for Beck like a pseudo glimpse of nature. I can see this deck doing some really unfair stuff and winning super fast.

    I think "Combo Elves' really need to utilize fetches. Misty Rainforest and Verdant Catacombs help thin your deck so that when you cast Beck//Call you hit as many creatures as possible. Also, the fetches help you grab Breeding Pool to reliably cast Beck//Call without the additional non-basics.

    I love the idea of using Lead the Stampede. Great for crap draws on a turn where you want to combo out with Beck//Call.

    One last thing: I don't think Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx is a 4-of here. With a lower land count than most decks, you have to mulligan a hand with only a Shrine as it wont to a damn thing. I would personally run 2.

    If you are running fetches, you may as well jam DRS in there too. He gives you a bit of reach in a long game and having 2 toughness helps against decks packing Electrolyze as they can't 3 for 1 you like they could with multiple Llanowar Elves. Black also gives you more sideboard options.

    Re: Warrior Elves

    First of all coat of arms is quite powerful for a tribal aggro deck. I would't remove it if I could cast it, reliably, on turn 3. I think it can be done with Arch druid and nykthos. I would even test 3 coat of arms instead of only 2.

    Paragon seems to be less reliable that either coat of arms or imperious perfect for the simple reason that you really need to play it first in order to give its bonus to your other dudes.

    Elvish champion is wonderful as a SB card against green decks. He offers a pretty easy alpha strike if he lives.

    Someone mentioned Talara's battalion. It is pure awesomeness and this deck can easily support it.

    Another option would be to put Aether Vials in there to speed things up but then you would want to lower the mana dork count and this would hinder your ability to cast coat of arms fast enough to make it count.

    If you use vials and dorks then perhaps myr superion MIGHT be an option along with Talara's battalion. But it may mess up your game plan for no apparent reason.
