I know why you used it, but Jared picked the term "Witch Hunt" so he could play the victim. That's why I feel it is a term that should not be used. It's a negative term that promotes the idea that the blue lay on an innocent party, something that does not exist in this case.

Jared Boettcher has 21 Top 16 finishes since 2013 in SCG Opens/Invitationals/GPs/PTs/PTQs

Take these numbers (timespan, finishes, tournaments held by SCG over a year, number of PTQs held over a year in the US, money gained) and think about them. I'm not believing in the fairy tale of "just very talented players" looking at those surreal results.

46 months is a lot, I doubt the sentence would be such hard without the hunt and other cheaters, Boettcher material was the least convincing imo... his winning streak was kind of suspicious thou

wtf is Raymond Perez Jr.? sounds like caribbean baseball player

Who knows how extensively he was cheating off of camera?

Certainly the video coverage we saw is not the only information WotC has available.

Lemnear, not everyone is like that, what about some of the SCG guys. They play and are often at the top tables. Guys like Joe do very well over extend periods of time. Tom Ross, as well. I am a good player, better than most I play with, but I am not a "Great" player. I honestly feel like I could top a big event if I went to a few, because I am good. I also feel like I would scrub out no small amount on my own mistakes. But if you take away those mistakes, add in the level of knowledge that someone that visits this site as often as we do has and you should realistically be able to top tables more often than not. Because while you will play against good players like myself, the lack of errors under pressure and fatigue that Great players will have over a long day add up.

I feel like the best really are just better cut out for this than the rest of us are. While there will always be those that cheat, there are going to be those who just play perfect lines more often then they fuck up and those players will rise to the top more frequently.

No matter how good you are Magic is still a game that is randomn and you can't do anything about losing.

So topping very consistently is automatically suspicious because everyone will have those events where you never draw a land in some rounds.

Oh I definitely go to time, but it's usually in standard ha ha!

Seriously though, this week has been nuts. From Worcester to this, I don't think you can get a bigger drama scandal at this point than the Rookie of the Year getting hit with a ban.

I a lot of us know how it goes in mtg tournaments, in the end there is the always the same group of people that battles out for top 8 and most of then end up in the top 20% all the time, the thing is everytime you looked at standings of SCG around R5, in certain period Boettcher / Bertoncini was always there with perfect record, I agree with Lemnear that in a game so random such records are highly inprobable... if you know outstanding players you know why they are better - you can trace back their key decisions that were better than of an average player, bluffs and smart plays if you watch the match... but they also do make mistakes (look at Oarsman and other online) and I remind you Boettcher top 4ed with Grixis Painter - this will never happen again because concept of the deck is just mediocre fragile shit even for 2011 standards (I tried to play that back then so I know well)...

As an aside of ancillary relation to this, I continue to be amazed at how lenient the entire MtG community is with cheating. Some progress has been made.

The only way to stop this is using shuffling machines.

Or enforcing that the shuffler covers the line of sight to the deck with a blanket so that the other guy can observe the shuffle but the shuffler can't manipulate card order since he doesn't see the deck.

The shuffler's hands can go through a hole in the blanket; we'll call it the Yiddish Rule.

God said I can do whatever I want as long as it's through the hole in the sheet!
I think the biggest thing is the deep seeded emotional understanding that the right play is the right play regardless of outcomes. The ability to make a decision 5 straight times, lose 5 times because of it, and still make it the 6th time if it's the right play. - Jon Finkel

I think I've heard some of the Demonic Hordes of NYers who choose to vacation in NJ say it, unfortunately.
