Thread: Good notebook or writing pad for tournament use.

Good notebook or writing pad for tournament use.

Has anyone found a good pad for keeping score similar to the pads that game stores have, but maybe a little bigger with more room for notes? I like having the columns for each game but would like more room too, and maybe a spiral binding so I can keep them for a long time?

    Look for STENO pads.
    They are pretty good IMHO

Yellow legal pads (DOCKET) are really nice - perforated sheets if you need to tear any off too.

Costco/Sam's Club/Amazon sell bigass bundles of those cheap legal pads with the tear away sheets. I just use those. For a serious tournament where I might want to take way more notes than usual (for a report or something), I will just use a legit notebook with covers. Currently I'm using a Moleskine for that but I'm fancy. A medium sized spiral notebook should be fine. Spiral because you want it to lay flat on the table. For weeklies I use medium sized legal pads, like the size of a 7" tablet. If you work in an office you can "borrow" them from the supply closet, I'm sure.

If you wanna really step up your game and show the other nerds that you are the king of wizardland, you can rock one of these badboys - http://www.signinbloodlife.com/

I have seen them around and I thought about getting one. They are super nice.

Nothing quite like stealing from your employer!

The 7" pads or Steno notebooks are both good size to keep track of notes/lifetotals, and portable enough to fit in most MTG bags.

    The Bertoncini thread inspired me.

These actually seem to be exactly what I'm looking for. They have the columns but also have more room than game store pads!!

    Right? They are great.

A couple guys use them at our local shop and they are pretty much perfect for the tournament try hard. And they don't look super dorky so you can still feel like a cool guy while you cast your wizard spells and dragon monsters and stuff.

Sweet $11 for a $0.50 memo pad. Seems like good value.

    Compare with 5"x3" (12 x 7 cm) for <$2.00

We could buy all of our clothes at Wal-mart too. But sometimes you wanna pay a little extra to have nice things. No shame in that.

Yep, I'm going to frame my life pad / game notes and put them up on the wall:

    Code:
    Me | You
    20 20
    13 Dead
    6
    4

I mean that was a little rude, but whatever.

I need to have the columns because my hand-writing is terrible so as much organization I can get I need. If you know of a .50 memo pad that has columns like that let me know!!

    LoL okay.

I spend money on nice things that I don't put on my wall. It just seems a little silly on a Legacy forum, of all places, to criticize the way people spend their money.

Here's a pen, and a straight edge. Or a Magic card, because they have a hard edge.

I've got other Veblen goods if you feel like wasting your hard earned money on pointless trinkets.

My idea of a useful writing pad for notes is that it's bound paper. My opinion is that a memo pads achieves this best. Having a faux leather bound memo pad with fancy stationary printed columns and paying $11 is just throwing away money. YMMV.

This whole game is a pointless trinket.

I use a Galaxy Note now, I use to use a cheap pad with a spiral top, but I would take them home, use them for a shopping list or take them to Uni and end up losing them. So now I just use what I can't lose. Works a treat.

I found this place that has spiral-bound ones for a more reasonable $3.99

I use a TexWrite Cleanroom Notebook. Basically a notepad that's fab approved. About 120g weight, so my sharpies will not bleed through.
