Would like to get into MTGO, Tips?

I would like to find a good time to get into MTGO. I Dont really know what deck I should start with since The prices are completely different online. I'd like a decently competitive deck that I can mess around with online and build a collection from. I prefer to play legacy and possibly commander. Anyone have suggestions on best ways to get started?

    First decks to buy?
Best ways to build the collection?

Also, I'd like to be cost effective since i'm not sure i'll like online magic as much as IRL

I prefer to play combo > Aggro > Control
    Play 4 Card Blind!

    Currently Playing
    Legacy: Dark Depths
    EDH: 5-Color Hermit Druid

Currently Brewing: [Deck] Sadistic Sacrament / Chalice NO Eldrazi

It depends on what you're willing to invest and what you want to play/plan to play in the future.

For reference: MODO meta including prices

i guess i should start out with something fairly cheap to start to see if I really enjoy it. everything on that list is pretty expensive with exception of storm and manaless dredge.... are they even really worth playing online? or am i just gonna get frustrated cause the decks suck and then quit without giving it much of a chance.

One advantage of MTGO is the rules engine - you'll never forget triggers, your opponents can't cheat and you don't have to argue about basic rules with retards. On the flipside, you have to deal with the horrendous client.

Players on MODO are highly competitive since chances are that you're going to face some high-profile players in the daily events. But that also helps to improve your mechanics and become a better player.

The prize support is pretty good. A daily cost 6 tickets ($6); going 3-1wins you 6 packs which will trade for 21-23 tickets and going 4-0, wins you 11 packs 33-40 tickets. The quality of competion is high in the daily events too. SCG, GP, and PT winners commonly play in them.

Momir Vig and playing events that way. It gets you a lot of time playing around with the client and if you get good at it, it'll pay ahead.

Pauper can be cheap to start on (just avoid Serrated Arrows and Hydro/Pyro blasts) and can be fun that way.
Whenever I see a kid in a wheelchair it makes me a little sad. Because I always think, "Gee, they could have used those same wheels to make a bike for a regular kid. What a waste."

Depends on the region you live in if you want to buy tix. If you have to pay VAT, avoid the Wizards store.

As far as shops go, use http://www.mtggoldfish.com and http://mtgowikiprice.com to find the cheapest deals for the cards.

There are shops like mtgotraders (great card selection and service, but a bit on the expensive site) were you can buy stuff with with Paypal instead of tix.

But prepare yourself to curse on daily basis how shitty this PoS client is. Infuriating would be an understatement how many things are wrong with it - the massive memory leak, general slowness and the laughable instability are just the tip of the iceberg.

Focus on one or two decks, don't be like me with four almost complete decks staring at $40 Infernal Tutors and Dazes and Wasteland at like 90 and thinking "surely these will be reprinted in the next Master's Edition."

Oh and it's also the first thing in any mtgo guide but it bears stating anyway, never open packs. 50+% of the value of an mtgo pack is that it pays tix towards the cost to enter a draft.

For newer cards and Tix I'd recommend goatbots.com .

    cardhoarder.com is also fine.

For those sets that have a recent Paper release, you can, for around 2 years after release, trade an MTGO set for a paper set for an admin fee. So, for example, you can buy full BNG sets for, say, 75 tix. So, for ~$100-$150, you can buy a complete set of cards. You can also obtain foils this way, though the cost is considerably higher.

And yes, the client is indeed a sack of shit dressed up in a sack of piss.
