I think the bannings this week are good for Imperial Bomberman. If people's predictions pan out, we should see a shift back towards more Canadian Threshold (the deck Imperial Bomberman was designed specifically to beat in its first incarnation) and Death and Taxes (Bomberman's suite of colorless removal makes this a close but reasonable matchup). We do need to be careful in how we handle a potential uptick in fast strategies that abuse the graveyard, though, and the reactive rise of more varied hate for the graveyard in general, especially Leyline of the Void.
I'm having a whole lot of fun right now playing a version of this deck running 4 Expedition Map, which wins the game under the Bomberman combo by tutoring for Tolaria West to transmute into Walking Ballista. And if we are going to bother with Map, might as well throw in 1-of of Stage/Depths, right? And since 4 Map gives us very easy access to Karakas, I'm thinking the Recruitable Mangara of Corondor finds a home again too. It's all probably too cute, but boy am I having fun running a deck with 14 tutors and a zillion targets. So many whacky lines!

Went 2-1 at my local yesterday. Got wrecked by Bizarro Stormy, of course, but handily beat Pox and Elves. Dark Depths combo came up a couple times. Nice line to have access to. I'm running 2 Tolaria West to ensure Expedition Map is still a kill if I draw one of them.
Edit: Damn the primer for this deck needs some love... sorry for not tending the garden folks. One day soon I'll get to it.
Is still anyone on the deck? I feel like after storming a bit after the bannings i may come back to Bomberman. Has anyone tested anything spicey outside of the classic list?

Hey Friends. Sadly it looks im the only one left on this Archetype. But i still continue playing the deck if someone wants to pick it up.
I recently got Bomberman on Mtgo. So we can see how it goes.
On the other hand i had the idea of a list without red and adding black for discard and removal.
Something like that:
3 Ancient Tomb
1 Marsh Flats
2 Cavern of Souls
4 Flooded Strand
1 Vault of Whispers
1 Swamp
1 Ancient Den
1 Plains
1 Karakas
1 Seat of the Synod
1 Island
2 Polluted Delta
2 Tundra
2 Underground Sea
4 Lion's Eye Diamond
1 Engineered Explosives
4 Swords to Plowshares
4 Brainstorm
4 Ponder
2 Disciple of the Vault
3 Duress
2 Fatal Push
1 Pithing Needle
2 Aether Spellbomb
4 Trinket Mage
2 Sai, Master Thopterist
4 Auriok Salvagers
3 Walking Ballista
I like disciple. The deck modo is borderline unplayable though it sucks. It's more a different deck, but I was just thinking of a 2 card Monte imperial bomberman painter deck. I assume it's been tried?
I know it's been awhile since I last attempted this (around Scars), but any thoughts on Artificer's Intuition to dig out LED and win-cons?
I dont think you meed intuition woth 4 Trinket Hustlers in the deck. They do the same but the Hustler delivers the Mediocre Beats.
For Painter i had a Painter and a Stone in my Sideboard to fight Gravehate and Sphere/Chalice effects. It was fine i guess. But we could try just to shove 4 and 4 into the deck.
Hey Guys its me again. Gonna shuffle some stuff up abit for todays weekly and run with this different take on the deck.
1x Academy Ruins
2x Cavern of Souls
4x Flooded Strand
1x Island
1x Seat of the Synod
1x Karakas
4x Scalding Tarn
1x Plains
1x Arid Mesa
1x Ancient Den
1x Mountain
1x Great Furnace
2x Tundra
2x Volcanic Island
2x Search for Azcanta
2x Pyrite Spellbomb
1x Aether Spellbomb
1x Engineered Explosives
1x Lion's Eye Diamond
1x Tormod's Crypt
1x Pithing Needle
2x Auriok Salvagers
2x Imperial Recruiter
4x Trinket Mage
2x Walking Ballista
4x Brainstorm
4x Force of Will
4x Swords to Plowshares
2x Jace, the Mind Sculptor
4x Ponder
I played it two weeks ago at our weekly and my results where not good. I went 1-3 but i was pretty unlucky that night.
What is your expirience with the deck?
I went 3-2 at a bigger local event the other day with this list. I misidentified Grixis Control game 1 round 4 (saw U. Sea and cantrips so I hedged against Reanimator/Storm) and lost accordingly g1; wound up losing that match in a tight game 3. If I had played correctly game 1 think I would have made top 8 (able to draw in round 5). Decks I beat on the day were Miracles, Dragon Stompy, and Stoneblade, and lost to old school MUD (awful matchup) and the aforementioned Grixis Control. Stage/Depths was absolutely stellar on multiple occasions - surprisingly easy to assemble with all the Maps and all the Trinket Mages to get more Maps. The Miracles matchup with the deck is very interesting and skill-intensive on both sides of the table; some of the most fun I've ever had playing Magic.
That list is 61 cards - I will be moving the Nihil Spellbomb to the board to get down to 60 (I was hedging against all of the hype locally about various Entomb strategies, but that turned out to be a non-issue due to a huge turnout of Leyline of the Void, Surgical Extraction, and Rest in Piece. Stage/Depths helped me navigate all of those.)
Still congratulations to the solid result. I will test this list if i can get my hands at a foil Dark Depths.
For the Control list. The deck struggles to win games where we not combo. And the Forces just feel mediocre in a combo where we discard our hand. If you want to stay controlish maybe add more Planeswalker that close the game faster like Chandra, Torch of Defiance.
What i want to try moving forward is what happens if i just shove Saheeli Cat into my old Bomberman list. Like 2 or 3 of each.
Hey Friends here is something from me once again.
I tested Wanderlusts list and there was stuff i liked and stuff i did not like like the Dark Depths Stage combo but i liked the Maps.
From where i am i saw myself loosing most of my games where i got just aggroed out of the game really fast. So i opt to add some Trophy Mages into the deck and 2 Ensnaring Bridges and so far these are so incredibly good.
This is where im at right now:
4 Auriok Salvagers
4 Imperial Recruiter
4 Trinket Mage
3 Walking Ballista
2 Trophy Mage
2 Ensnaring Bridge
1 Staff of Domination
2 Expedition Map
3 Pyrite Spellbomb
1 Aether Spellbomb
1 Pithing Needle
1 Engineered Explosives
4 Lion's Eye Diamond
3 Mox Opal
4 Seat of the Synod
1 Ancient Den
1 Great Furnace
4 Cavern of Souls
3 Ancient Tomb
2 Flooded Strand
1 Tundra
1 Volcanic Island
1 Island
1 Plains
1 Tolaria West
1 Academy Ruins
1 Karakas
1 Inventors Faie
I'm having a problem with fast big creatures that we just cannot deal with Spellbombs or Ballistas like most Eldrazi, Tarmogoyf, Angler..
ElDorte - have you had any more success with the more controlling lists that you were proposing? And the Saheeli/Cat inclusion? I look forward to trying out your ideas soon and hopefully providing some useful feedback!
After more testing of the Map/Stage/Depths list I definitely agree with you that it has a "big dumb beatstick" problem. A Maze of Ith to tutor up against Gurmag Angler out of Grixis Control has proved alright, although frankly that matchup felt very difficult when I tested seriously against it a couple of months ago; in fact, its popularity led me to switch decks for a bit in frustration. But it seems to be losing ground again so maybe it's okay to go back in the Map direction.
New old idea
I've returned lately to the very old Bomberman tech of Living Wish, which predates the use of Imperial Recruiter (in fact it was a cornerstone of the classic Golden Grahams deck). These days, the principal two cards that interest me in green over red are Sylvan Library and Qasali Pridemage. Also, Living Wish can grab lands in a pinch, not something Imperial Recruiter can do. Tonight I took the below list to a 4-0 finish at my weekly local event, beating Grixis Control, BUG Control, Tainted Pact Food Chain Control, and RUG Delver:
3 Auriok Salvagers
3 Trinket Mage
4 Meddling Mage
1 Walking Ballista
1 Mystic Enforcer (a human that stacks up favorably against Gurmag Angler)
4 Living Wish
1 Abeyance (to cast in their upkeep when comboing off with baubles)
1 Search for Azcanta
1 Sylvan Library
4 Chalice of the Void
1 Engineered Explosives
4 Mishra's Bauble
2 Urza's Bauble
4 Lion's Eye Diamond
3 Mox Opal
1 Mox Diamond
1 Ancient Den
2 Tree of Tales
3 Seat of the Synod
1 Horizon Canopy
3 Ancient Tomb
3 Cavern of Souls
4 Flooded Strand
1 Island
1 Plains
1 Tropical Island
1 Tundra
1 Savannah
Sideboard:
1 Tormod's Crypt
1 Meekstone (to board in when all of our Chalices come out against Eldrazi)
1 Auriok Salvagers
1 Ethersworn Canonist
1 Faerie Macabre
2 Qasali Pridemage
1 Walking Ballista
1 Trinket Mage
1 Scavenging Ooze
1 Peacekeeper
1 Mystic Enforcer
1 War Priest of Thune
1 Karakas
1 Cavern of Souls
Running 4 Meddling Mage main is definitely odd, but I like its versatility - either protecting our combo, disrupting their combo when necessary, or just beating down.
Also worth noting: activating the Azcanta the Sunken Ruin side of Search for Azcanta is much better in this list than in the Imperial Recruiter lists since it can pick a Living Wish.

I have not played Legacy in a while.
But for the more controlling lists, whenever i played them they seemed to come up short on actually winning the game.
