For some reason it seems quite unlikely to me that Wizards was trying to play into the hype around Twilight with MtG, unless everybody here seems to be big fans of the series and always longed for MtG inspired on well, that... I guess it's only a matter of time then before we get a set printed in black-and-white that's inspired on 50 Shades of Grey. I'm so excited!

    - 3 years after the Twilight movie and the hype revolving around it (2008), we get Innistrad in 2011. Both feature vampires & werewolves, although Innistrad is darker.

    - 3 years after Game of Thrones becomes a thing (dispite the first book being released in 1996, it only became a real bestseller in 2011 when the tv series started) we get Khans of Tarkir in 2014. The Barbarian-theme & medieval looking scenery seem to be comparable...

Now, if you'll include the development time and the testing in the future future league, one might think they pretty much copied both series' success by theme-fitting Magic expansions.
I'm not exactly educated in pop culture, so what will be the 2017 block theme?

If bookstore sales trends are any indication, it's going to be a Young Adult block with a mechanical focus on "kids with cancer."

I've read this entire thread and I still don't understand this image, but this is my favorite thing on the internet now.

It's not like we don't have a Sword of George R. R. Martin already.

Spoiler season will probably start around last august week.
That is if they don't let some cards "slip" into M15 or something.

Flagstones of Trokair, Shade of Trokair. Those fit the theme.

Orcs are back and Khans looks more and more like it's going to have Wedges as theme.

Oh boy, I sure can't wait for Sultai Delver vs Temur Delver on the SCG coverage!

    Edit: Morph is also back.
