[Question] Abrupt Decay in UNR color ?

    Howdy,

Currently I'm playing with Grixis Delver (UBR) and I pretty like it.
But sadly, I feel a lack of "all round spell" like Abrupt Decay.
Does anyone know a card in UBR color that can *remplace* Abrupt Decay (or at least deal with Enchantment/Artifacts/Creatures) ?

    Thanks

I'm afraid there's no real fix there. You can either splash green for Deathrite Shaman and Abrupt Decay and basically morph into BURG-delver (as they call it in Germany) or alternatively be left with sub-optimal cards. Red gives you conditional creature removal (bolts) and artifact removal (Shattering Spree and Smash to Smithereens). Black gives you conditional creature removal (Disfigure, Dismember), blue gives you bounce spells (Vapor Snag, Echoing Truth, Wipe Away).

As you can see, none of these cards offer the flexibility that Abrupt Decay does.

Well, I think I will try UBR+G, or maybe if the 4th color is *too much*, going for a mix of blue bounce.

    Thx

Crosis's Charm is about as flexible as Abrupt Decay but obviously a lot less efficient.

    I guess there's Repeal?

Engineered Explosives is your best bet in Grixis and yeah it is not even close to the same thing. It does sweep tokens however which gives you a capability that the other Delver lists do not have main board. I'd run 2 main deck in a Grixis list due to the lack of Enchantment removal in those colors.

BURG Delver is a successful decklist in legacy, so people can run the four colors and make it work. It's a greedy manabase, but people pull it off.

If you're Grixis in color, you can always just counter what they cast or nab it with Thoughtseize from their hand.

I'll throw in one card that I tried as a two-of in Grixis builds: Dreadbore
It's not brilliant, but Grixis usually has trouble with bigger guys, and killing a Jace or Lily is nice too.

Really? My experience is that Grixis doesn't really have a huge problem with bigger creatures due to the options available in black.

To me, the biggest issues they have is dealing with enchantments.

The thing with most black removal is that it's conditional.
Non-black, non-artifact, only an -x/-x effect, you name it.
The lists I tried usually just lost to a Goyf or so.

There aren't that many enchantments being played regularly that Grixis would care about.
Maybe Rest in Peace when you run Stalkers, but stuff like Counterbalance can be met with various answers (REB, counters, discard, Peedle).

But anyway, Dreadbore is quite okay. Not that expensive and a solid removal spell.

Like Apple said, Recoil is tha card that leaps to mind. Theres a pretty big difference between 2 and 3 mana though. If youre going to stay Grixis, you might consider Echoing Truth as well. Does less, but only 2 mana.

Abrupt Decay was a big deal when it came out for a reason... There isnt really an excellent replacent, it WAS the replacement.

Dreadbore seems fine but Black (and white) is really the color that kills big creatures.

A fun one that Grixis gets access to is Submerging your opponent while being pretty tough to Submerge back.

Is Dreadbore killing Jace+friends and being Sorcery really prefered to Terminate being instant?

I would also say Engineered Explosives (maybe with a Bolt or two) is your best bet.
