I think the biggest thing is the deep seeded emotional understanding that the right play is the right play regardless of outcomes. The ability to make a decision 5 straight times, lose 5 times because of it, and still make it the 6th time if it's the right play. - Jon Finkel

They can't beat that card I don't think, it just hoses them really hard. Game 2, took some beats, baited him into overextending, got the 4 for 1 verdict on 5 (mom, thalia, revoker (naming jace) and flickerwisp). Followed it up with path + Ajani, rode Ajani home. game Three, he stumbled on mana (he kept double vials, plains, wasteland, mom, some 2-drops) and I pierced the first vial, forced the second one, and then turn 5 Ajani on the play goes all the way with some aid from Elspeth and jayce bouncing and chumping into a one-sided Armageddon + jace fateseal lock.

    Lands:
0-3. This matchup feels possibly even more miserable for the treasure cruise player than miracles in the same matchup. Relying on planeswalkers or an engineered explosives lock on a deck with a creeping tarpit, punishing fire engine, and their own EE lock is just miserable. Game two he just ghost-quartered out all my basics, and in all three games he was able to rotate into an early bog to turn off my graveyard, leaving me with a ton of dead dig through times in hand to his bog + crucible+ zuran orb package in game three, and game one my dig in response to bog didn't find any gas, just another pair of digs and a treasure cruise with no graveyard and no way to hardcast them through the mana denial. I think the moral is, if you REALLY REALLY REALLY hate miracles and similar UWr decks, just play control lands.
Vs D1T, it seems that your opponent wasn't a very good D1T player. Deploying 4 threats vs a UW Control deck, never found karakas + thalia or vial in the 3 games. In the games I played, this MU is one of the hardest to handle : you're a miracle deck with ee (revoker) and verdict (thalia + rishadan) instead of terminus and without Entreat to get 1 token 4/4. Your planeswalker build is particularly weak against vial, that you were lucky to counter G3.

I never got to test vs lands, but blood moon + White leyline + Needle should help in the sideboard.

    Re: [Article]Eternal Europe: Golddigger

So I've been testing straight UR and been pretty happy with it. I do wish I could get EE up to 3 to deal with True-Name Nemesis and Liliana, but the manabase is basically unassailable and I've been extremely happy with Lightning Bolt and Forked Bolt. Snapcaster Mage is awesome in this shell, especially with the Burn. Not totally sold on Consecrated Sphinx, but you almost can't lose once it comes into play. The Shattering Pulse in the board is kinda meh, but I found it before I found it in my box before I found any other artifact removal. StP might just make white too good to cut, though.

    Land (21)
    5 Island
    4 Volcanic Island
    4 Scalding Tarn
    4 Flooded Strand
    2 Mountain

    2 Consecrated Sphinx
    2 Snapcaster Mage

    Burn/Removal (7)
    4 Lightning Bolt
    2 Engineered Explosives
    1 Forked Bolt

    Draw/Manipulation (16)
    4 Dig Through Time
    4 Brainstorm
    4 Ponder
    3 Jace, the Mind Sculptor

I have been playing the deck for a while on modo, and the UR delver match up seems pretty rough. Since they can burn you out, you have to deal with their threats as soon as possible, and that often lets them have a window to resolve Treasure Cruise.

I got the 4 for 1 by baiting him into flickerwisping (tapping karakas) the revoker to set it to an ee for two that I played out w/out mana to pop it, giving myself the window to verdict when his shields were down. Opponent was aware of the list I was playing and he opted to try and jam threats to pressure me out--he's a fairly experienced D&T player who's placed t16 in a couple of legacy opens, and my win rate got closer to about 50/50 (60/40 post board it feels like, but like maybe 45-55 preboard, very close) as we jammed more games over the weekend. I certainly feel like we can overpower their opener, either with removal or a board wipe x for 1, then slam a planeswalker they can't quite deal with--you just have to avoid vial sticking, or if you let it stick you have to keep up removal for revoker. It wasn't all that bad tbh, nothing in their deck survives Ajani -2, so if you get to stabilize with Ajani it's like drawing 2/3 of a card every turn straight up, as you mitigate one attacker or mana denial source, then next turn kill a threat for free, etc. It forces them to overextend just like it did last time Ajani was in standard control lists.

    Re: [Article]Eternal Europe: Golddigger

I played a version of this in Legacy at Eternal Weekend a few days ago and the shell is just extremely powerful. I tried to get cute in that tournament and splash a 4th color in the board, but the core was really good though. I may write up more when I get a chance.

After some work on Sunday after I bricked out of Vintage to tune the deck to beat UR delver, I wanted to share the list we'd gotten to:

    3 Tundra
    2 Volcanic Island
    3 Island
    2 Plains
    1 Mountain
    4 Flooded Strand
    4 Scalding Tarn
    1 Arid Mesa
    1 Academy Ruins

    4 Swords to Plowshares
    2 Engineered Explosives
    1 Moat

    4 Force of Will
    1 Misdirection
    2 Pyroblast
    3 Counterspell
    2 Spell Pierce

    4 Brainstorm
    4 Ponder
    2 Preordain
    1 Treasure Cruise
    4 Dig Through Time

    3 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
    1 Baneslayer Angel
    1 Snapcaster Mage

    Sideboard:
    1 Baneslayer Angel
    1 Supreme Verdict
    2 Pyroclasm
    1 Blood Mood
    1 Tormod's Crypt
    1 Grafdigger's Cage
    1 Wear // Tear
    1 Hydroblast
    2 Vendilion Clique
    1 Red Elemental Blast
    2 Flusterstorm
    1 Pithing Needle
