[Teacher Deck Compilation] G/B Smallpox Shell

    Hey guys,

I'm trying to create a deck built around the following shell:

    2 Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord
    3 Life from the Loam

    4 Smallpox
    3 Raven's Crime
    2 Darkblast

I am essentially looking for common/uncommon card suggestions that could help this deck going as I just hit a mental block.

    Thanks in advance

I am convinced that WotC is "dumbing" the game because of all the stupid posts they come across on MTG-related forums

Finglonger points from his Dack Fayden to 13NoVa's Sol Ring.

    Re: G/B Smallpox Shell

    bloodghast
    wasteland
    worm harvest
    vampire hexmage
    depthstage

    edit:
Bloodghast serves as a recuring threat and Commander fodder.
Wasteland serves... oh c'mon, that's obv.
Worm Harvest is a recuring threat and Commander fodder. Isn't there something silly to use the Worms for? G's Cradle... but what to do with mana? loam moar?
Hexmage may create the 20/20 token or it may be eaten by Jarad in case there's nothing else to do
Depthstage s obv. Nice thing is that with Jarad out you don't need to go through attack step and laugh at StP, Karakas, etc.
    Cycling Lands seem good, right?
You'd need some tools against DRS. Innocent Blood? It's quite funny with W. Harvest, although Harvest is bit too slow...

    more edit:
Cabal Therapy seems fine with WH.
Is Bridge from Below or DReturn viable with all those Ghasts, etc.?
    Entomb as a gy-based tutor?

    Re: G/B Smallpox Shell

Not exactly budget but thanks for the suggestions.

This deck will be part of the learner decks that I've posted on the other thread.

So far this is what I have:

    2 Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord

    4 Viridian Emissary
    3 Reassembling Skeleton
    3 masked admirers

    4 golgari Guildgate
    3 tectonic edge
    10 swamp
    9 forest

    3 Golgari keyrune

    3 life from the loam
    3 raven's crime
    4 smallpox
    3 putrefy
    3 darkblast
    2 treasured find
    1 exile into darkness

I haven't really playtested it since it just something I came with on the fly.

Emissary is a great fodder to Smallpox.
    Admirers recur though situational.
    Skeletons also recur but weak.

The nonpermanents are mostly for disruption.
Treasure Find to get something back that got dredged.
I think Exile into Darkness is cute, so I'll try it.

Keyrune is there so you don't get screwed over by your own Smallpox.

sr, I somehow missed the budget part. My fault. I was thrilled with the idea, as I got something similar on my mind back in the days when I owned non-RUG cards.

I like the Reassembling Skellies. And I like the Emissary, too. I wanted to play it alongside Crack the Earth.
I think that Worm Harvest might be good. Even without Cabal Therapies it's still pretty powerful.
Would the cycling lands be too anoying?
when playing with Loam, is the TPSbasiclandonly fetch reasonable?
I'm not sure if the creature base is good enough. You got some 2/2 dudes only, so they might be too weak to win. Otoh, you may win with anyting once the lock is locked.
Speaking of that, idk if Smallpox.de is a good lerner deck. Take a look from the players' perspective, it isn't nice to sit there twiddling the dick. But this depends on the opposing deck, hopefully you'll fine tune he pair.
Btw, isn't EWitness better than the crappy regrowth you use? Also, you may eat her with Jarad...

edit: you should play Treetop Village, too.

This is the current set up for this deck:

    4 golgari Guildgate
    11 Swamp
    9 Forest
    2 haunted fengraf

    3 golgari signet

    3 life from the loam

    4 grisly salvage
    3 raven's crime
    3 smallpox
    3 putrefy
    2 savage conception

    2 jarad, golgari lich lord
    4 golgari thug
    4 eternal witness
    3 crypt rats

I am divided between Reassembling Skeletons and Thugs. Thugs can also buy back Witnesses and Crypt Rats. I took your advice on Witnesses and its a great target for Grisly Salvages.

Worm Harvest was too good but I like the concept so I replaced it with Savage Conception.

My only "may replace" slot is the Haunted Fengraf. I wanted a utility non basic land that has a sacrifice as its cost. It's there to show trading resources for something else. The other candidate would be Quicksand but I feel like the deck has too much removal. Evolving Wild/Terramorphic Expanse doesn't really fit this bill as your trading land for another land and cycling makes Life of the Loam too good against the rest of the decks with no real graveyard removal.
