This is correct.
If your opponent casts Swords to Plowshares on your Marit Lage you can respond by sacrificing a land to Sylvan Safekeeper to give it shroud, and if they respond to the SS activation by casting a second StP on ML you can respond by activating SS a second time. Once a single SS activation resolves, though, you don't need to activate it again until the following turn.
In general if you have the option, Dread of Night is better overall. Massacre will kill Revoker, Crusader, or Stoneforge Mystic which is nice, but Dread of Night being permanent shuts them down significantly more over the course of the entire game and can buy a lot more time. It also doesn't help that Massacre has land requirements that can get awkward in that matchup.any reason why Massacre isn't played in the SB, if Death & Taxes is a not-great matchup? Doesn't seem like it should be that hard to get a Swamp into play, especially with Urborg, so is it because D&T can frequently not have a basic Plains?
@Luigi - The reason Dread of Night isn't played is that it doesn't answer the cards that make DnT Turbo Depth's worst matchup, namely STP, Wasteland, Port, & Surprise flying blockers. I've found the switch to safekeeper to seriously improve the mu.
Current Board
* 4 Sphere - Like it more than Mindbraks
* 3 Abrupt Decay - Generic Catch all, although......
* 1 Krosan Grip - I really think the split between K-grip/Decay should be reconsidered in light of the change to the blood moon rule. Assuming they "got you", it is easier to muster K-grip mana than Decay
* 3 Surgical - standard
* 1 Needle - Standard
* 1 Karakas - Standard
* 1 Factory - I go back and forth on this vs dryad arbor for additional edict protection. Dryad arbor can flat out loose you the game since it doesn't have haste, but factory can also mana screw you
* 1 Library - 1 Main.
Thank you everyone who replied to my lands-y brew! I was having a small issue with double black some games, I could see adding one more black source. Went 2-2 again at local event, although one game was thrown due to huge misplay 😣. Anyways, in the end the deck is strong, but I ended up wanting to add gambles to increase consistency. The entomb sort of filled that roll tutoring loam, but it's less flexible than gamble. By that point it's probably better to just play rgb combo lands. The main deck discard still feels great, so I ended up tuning the deck into a loam pox deck with 3 dark depths 3 stage and 3 urborg. Gonna rock this build, and see how fast combo does in this shell. Stay tuned for more shenanigans!
@Bluehen yes, you are describing adding a second Safekeeper activation to the stack while the two Swords are pending I believe? In that case this is the sequence:
Opponent: Swords.
Response, Safekeeper, sac land 1.
Opponent: response, Swords number 2.
Response, sac land number 2.
Resolves: sac'd land 2 gives Shroud, Swords fizzles, Safekeeper activation 1 fizzles, Sword 1 fizzles.
Dave Long on stream right now at the SCG DC Open playing Turbo Depths with Living Wish. Guess he came to the conclusion too that Turbo Depths is better positioned than Lands right now.
EDIT: Matched up against D&T though. Would rather be on Lands in that matchup, haha.
Looks like he came the same conclusion I did regarding the Living Wish board. His sideboard:
3 Decay
2 Surgical
1 Urborg (? not sure I would ever fetch this)
1 Sylvan Safekeeper (great)
1 Faerie Macabre (useful)
1 Rec Sage (useful)
1 Needle
1 Steely Resolve (meh...)
1 Stage
1 Depths
1 Dryad Arbor (I like this)
1 Karakas
The list probably still suffers from awkward sideboarding. For example, against Sneak and Show, do you bring in the Karakas? Then you can fetch it with Crop Rot and Map (if he's playing Map...) but not Living Wish. I would guess you don't.
I would probably cut the Urborg and the Steely Resolve to fit in more storm hate like 2 Mindbreak Traps.
Edit: He has Wooded Foothills. Might not be playing a Swamp. Or might just be for value when people put him on lands.
Edit2: Steely Resolve vs D+T means you can't attack past a flier + Mom.
Edit3: G2 D+T punted a few times and Depths won.
Edit4: I have now seen a Verdant, a Heath, and a Foothills, but also a Swamp. Maybe Long is running extra fetchlands?
Edit5: D+T made two questionable plays in G3 and lost. Not punts, just decisions that seemed wrong.
If you're wondering how I produce blue mana, I copy my opponent's Island with Thespian's Stage

-2016 Eternal Weekend Europe won by BR Reanimator (I wrote the primer)
-2016 Eternal Weekend North America won by Turbo Dark Depths (I write about and develop the winning version specifically)
-Refiner of Hogaak Depths.
I think he just ported his fetches from his Lands deck, haha. I think the only true punt by D&T was in G2. Wastelanding in that board state made no sense. He could have Swords his own creature and put in a Batterskull to try to win on the crackback. Oh well.
Also I can't wait to see speculators move in on Steely Resolve now. I tried warning in chat that it's not really all that great but...
The match was a little weird. I really liked the Steely Resolve that got Dave the win in game 2 against an opening hand with Karakas again.
I talked to him a bit at Eternal Weekend last week after he beat me in the mirror and he was pretty stoked on the Living Wishes. Personally I haven't tried them but they seem a little clunky to me. We saw that in trying to fight through Thalia like every game.
Dave Long (3-0) back on camera right now in Round 4 against BR Reanimator: https://go.twitch.tv/scgtour
I realized living wish was no good when playing D&T and would fight through ports and thalia only to get something I can't cast till next turn. I watched one match on eternal weekend and a dood used his wish to get karakas and bounce JVP only to die couple turns later. If anyone saw that, why'd he get Karakas rather than the combo pieces? Anyway, maybe MD LED would take care of this problem?
