[GP Lille] European Adventure! What should I see in Europe?

    Greetings all.

I'm very much interested in going to GP Lille this summer, and I'm trying to hit up tournaments beforehand as well.

I'll be in Europe just before Prague Eternal and leave a few days after GP Lille (approx June 10th - July 5th). So, questions remain:

    1) Are there other Legacy tournaments I should go to?
    2) Are there other towns/museums/sites I should see?
    3) Is anyone willing to host me? :)

So, fire away! Let me know what's going on in your corner of Europe!

MKM have just announced a series, London in late July. The dates aren't ideal with Lille and there are precious few details as yet.

Yeah, I saw that. It doesn't quite line up.

Ideally I'm looking for: things to do, museums/art/things to see, etc. Some touristy stuff, but also shops to visit and tournaments to play at.

Do you want to get totally wasted just for your pocketchange? Come to Czech Republic! I guess you do if you mentioned Prague Eternal, we'll take good care of you there...

I've seen a lot of Europe and I can't remember a city more enchanting than Florence. I love Munich and Barcelona, but Florence is just one single work of art. There's even a syndrome of being completly overwhelmed named after the beauty of it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florence_syndrome

Also: Prague. Seriously. I have to admit I underestimated that city when I was younger, but after 3 visits to it in 2014, I'm really looking forward to coming back at least twice in 2015 :-)

And hey, you already got Munich covered with me. #GreatValue!

The only city that somehow didn't really live up to what I imagined it to be was Paris, even though the Louvre is a great place you should probably spend more than 1 day at. I thought I could see everything in 1 day without rushing. Joke's on me: I hardly got to see the Sully Wing. If you wanna be hipster about it, you can get a Nintendo 3DS inside that will tell you lots of things about the different art pieces while you pass by

    seconded about prague.

amazing beautiful city, amazing nature outside of it. Great magic events, Historical buildings, rich history, cheap beer and very hot chicks. (it all counts)

And Tomas Vlcek is a professional guide, what could be better?

Been to paris 2-3 times for magic, never saw the eiffel tower and dont really care.

I would also recommend amsterdam, it has a special place in my heart.

Apparently I'm not the only who was somewhat disappointed by Paris. And look, they also have a syndrom for that: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_syndrome.

Oh and YES, Amsterdam! It's really beautiful, relaxed yet modern. Plus: there's a place in the street leading up to the main train station that sells OBELIX FRIES!

Originating close to Amsterdam, I'd say you should see Berlin, my favorite city in Europe so far. Been there several times and each time it has been great. Just so much culture and history, good food and great public transportation. No clue about magic there though. Legacy in Amsterdam is quite poor. I believe that a group of locals plays on Monday evenings in the café "De Twee Klaveren" and a judge hosts a legacy tournament once every two months or so. I think you can find more info on benelegacy.nl (if anyone still uses that website) about tournaments in the Netherlands and Belgium. Whichever cities you may choose, enjoy!

You already have a lot of good opinions but i will add some more :)

From Prague you can easily reach Vienna by train, enjoy some Schnitzel and visit the Belvedere (klimt!) and blame Philipp for the success of Miracles.

If you are into sun/beaches/nature you can go Down to Slovenia and visit the Lake Bled (google it!), Ljublajna and its cool Medieval vibe, and then go even further South and spend some time in the Adriatic coast in Croatia, Split, Dubrovnik (its a bit more touristic but cool).

If not you can just go up to Germany (and finish all of your German playsets!!!), every region is quite different (i love all of them but my favorite cities are Berlin and Hamburg), just make sure to dance to some Shlager music

Before Lille i think you are obliged to stop in Paris, i understand all the bad rep, but if you do the Parisian Triathlon by la Seine (baguette, fromage, vin) in between all the tourist stuff, you can have a good time.

Edit: and you are more than welcome in the Lgs where i play, im quite sure that the week before there will be at least 3 legacy tournaments during the week!

I am a Portuguese that studied in Sweden and lives in France, in my opinion you cant go wrong in Europe, so many different choices.

There is too much to cover in one trip, although there are rumors that Asian tourists can.
When you are interested in history then you can experience some serious stuff all around the place.

Ah and I don't recommend Berlin. It's shitty.

Here in Barcelona we have vintage (~40 players) and legacy (~100 players) leagues, with monthly tournaments. There are also a few museums to visit (Science Museum, Catalan National Art Musem, Contemporany Art Museum, Maritime Museum, Egipcian Museum, Picasso Museum, Wax Museum, ...) and some other interesting places (Sagrada Familia, La Pedrera, the Barcelona Cathedral, Parc Güell, ...). Oh, and you also can go to relax on the beach

Recommend: Barcelona, best food, awesome beaches, insanely gorgeous women everywhere, great public transportation the local beer is meh but if you drink enough San Miguel it tastes like cold water.

Don't Recommend: Waking up with a saline drip in the Sevrier hospital.

What should we not do to not end up in the Sevrier Hospital with a Saline drain? :)

Re: [GP Lille] European Adventure! What should I see in Europe?

If you want to see something and don't mind leaving the beaten track, visit the west of Germany, a region called the "Ruhr area" specifically, after the river Ruhr. The whole area consists of one big town but officially it is several towns (Essen, Dortmund, Bochum, etc.). It used to be the industrial heart of Germany with lots of steel plants (still there today) and even more coal mines (shut down now). In some cases they made nice places out of the former industrial sites (go google pictures of "Zeche Zollverein", "Landschaftspark Duisburg Nord" and "Bergbaumuseum Bochum" for example). The beer is very good, as are the fries and sausages ("Currywurst") the area is famous for. Essen also hosts the Folkwang-museum, packed with paintings, mostly ~impressionists.

Close by there is Cologne where you can visit the church ("Dom") next to the river Rhein and from there there are direct trains to both Amsterdam and Paris.

Re: [GP Lille] European Adventure! What should I see in Europe?

I have seen many cities in Europe and my favourite city so far is Bordeaux (I have lived there for 15 years so I might be not objective!). Wine tasting, Atlantic coast (the bassin d'Arcachon is a wonderful site with the pine forest by the water side) and the most beautiful women in the world! But don't take my words for it, see: http://www.europeanbestdestinations.com/
    Have a nice trip!

P.S: Should you go there, I can give you tips and good adresses for bars, clubs, food and things to see.
